The Thing About Credits (And How to Get More for FREE!)

NOTE: This is a cross-post from my Publish0X blog.

Hello, fellow newbies! As our journey through the monster-filled world of Splinterlands continues, I would like to let you know another piece of advice that I stumbled across the other day. And it has to do with Credits. Credits are, I feel, an under-valued part of the game. True, they don't trade on an exchange, there's no way that their value will increase, and (to be honest) they are a rather boring aspect of the game. But hear me out....

Splinterlands Credits and You

For those that don't know, Credits are another in-game "currency" - wait... that's not actually correct. As I said above, they don't trade on an exchange so their value will not go up or down. It's a $1 = 1000 Credits thing. And that poses a problem for some of the non-whaleish players of the game. I know what you're saying: I already spent $10 for the Spellbook and now you're telling me to spend MORE of my hard-earned money on stinkin' Credits??!!?? Are you nuts?

Maybe. But that's a topic for another time.

Credits have afforded me, as a low-SPS owning player, to buy cards that otherwise were out of my grasp. Instead of using DEC (which I'm sort of low on, too. Dang you, losing battles) you can use credits to buy and rent cards to help you get out of the Bronze Age - er, League - and start earning some decent rewards. It is important to note here that, despite my telling you this, I'm still in Bronze III. But that's mostly because I am still learning the game and RNJesus hates me.

Always do your own research about the market - Peakmonsters is the best - and try to buy cards low. Obviously. But buy them with Credits. That way you save your DEC for SPS Airdrop points.

You Mentioned Free Credits - Ummm.... HOW??

Glad you asked. It's not a particularly fast system, but it works. I did it twice yesterday and it got me to over 26.5 thousand Credits - enough that I actually bought a new Summoner. And we all know how (relatively) expensive those can be. Ok. Here's how I did it.

I have a browser extension called Honey that I've used for years. It finds and applies coupons when you shop online. It has saved me a TON of money over the years and you earn something called Honey Gold when you use it. I eventually saved up enough to redeem a credit of a little over $7 and used that to buy credits. So you're getting money for something you're already doing - shopping online. And it works with a surprising number of websites. If you'd like to sign up - it's free - click here. I appreciate it.

The other way I got "free" credits was cashing in some points for a product that I use via their website. I had enough for a $50 Visa e-gift card. What product it was doesn't matter. Here's the key takeaway from this: You may already be earning points for something that you don't even remember or may have forgotten about. Maybe you use a product and enter a code into their website for rewards. If you would like to get free Credits in Splinterlands, make sure you chose a gift card as your reward. It's really that simple.

So, how do you translate those gift cards into Splinterlands Credits? Simple.

Put Them on PayPal

Wow. I doubt that sentence needed to be big like that, but whatever. Yeah, put those gift cards on PayPal so you can spend them on Credits - if you wish. Why PayPal? That's your only option... umm... Pal.

Once you link your gift cards (and it has to be a generic gift card like a Visa or MasterCard - I don't think store-specific cards will work) then you can use it to buy Credits on Splinterlands and then you can use those Credits to buy or rent cards so you rise up in the ranks!

RNJesus willing, of course.
