Why is our earnings a threat?

Nigeria has seen a lot of recent events, so I'm not sure if we can still feel safe here. When they are well-off, young people are viewed as fraudsters. You are restricted in your ability to make wise financial decisions, and even being at home poses a risk! What a world!

My colleague in the higher institution was detained by the authorities over the weekend on suspicion of being a fraudster despite working as a web developer. The EFCC - Economic and Financial Crime Commission was with the cops that evening. He was declared innocent following the EFCC inquiry, but the police would not let him go. He was imprisoned for two days without access to food or water despite there being no evidence. He was prohibited from using his phone to call his parents or anyone.

Till now, we don't know who reported him to the authorities for such an allegation.

It was on the second day when they asked him to pay #100,000 for bail, that was when he had access to his phone to call his parents secretly. Few minutes later, the parents arrived and bailed him with the sum of #100, 000. As it stands he can't stay in his house for the meantime because of the trauma.

Mhen! the profiling of Nigerian youth by the police, the corruption in their very core and their misuse of power makes the country unsafe for us. He was humiliated and had to pay his way out for his innocency. He was accused of being a fraudster without a single evidence, they went through his phone and saw nothing but insisted. The worst part, he was in his own house. You're not safe even in your own house?

When I shared this story with my brother he said his friend is afraid to buy a car because of this instance. His friend has been locked up because he is living in a luxurious house, this friend of his is a product designer, web developer and a #crypto trader.

I am aware that many Nigerians had experiences like this. However , he has refused our requests for him to take up the case to us court.

In the same cell as him, he said, some innocent inmates are held for a week. I'm curious where we're going. When will it all be over?

So, despite being legal, making a lot of money is considered illegal?
God will help us!
