My Honest Review Of.....Hive
If you look up the definition of 'Hive Shill', this is what you will find:
Yeah that's me...I'm Jongo!
And I'm one of the biggest shills around when it comes to this blockchain. I love Hive, everything about it. I truly believe this blockchain has the potential to change the world and almost every day of the week, you'll find me telling the world...How great Hive is!
But....
In today's post, I wanted to go over a few things I have always hoped would change on Hive. I'm going to be upfront and give my feedback on what I think could improve this entire experience for everyone...Without slamming any individual! Because here's what I believe about this community....It's just that, a community! We rise and we fall together...So there are my thoughts on what we could do to potentially improve the ENTIRE blockchain community.
Stop Hating On The Apps
I get it, we don't have a face here. And rightfully so. This is a decentralized blockchain with no central figure (kinda sorta) who makes the brand. Tron has Justin. Bitcoin has the maxis (take your pick), Ethereum has Vitalik...You get the picture.
However we have apps!
We have Splinterlands. We have Rising Star. We have LeoFinance. We have 3speak.
There are some amazing projects being built here yet take a look at the top witness list...The apps that are actually bringing people here and engaging with the community are never on the top of the lists. And I get it, that's a tight little circle that is next to impossible to break...However I can't help but think, everyone would win here if the apps that brought the most attention to the chain, got the support of everyone.
Which brings me to....
Marketing Funds For Specific Apps
Hard to argue that no one is owed a thing here. We get up, we put in the work, we hustle! And I don't for a second think these apps are sitting around saying to themselves...
"If only we had a proposal from the DHF in our back pocket!"
Nah, they are too busy building but damn, it would be nice!
Imagine if we funded some marketing campaigns for...3Speak. Every time YouTube decided to ban some influencer and they rant on Twitter, we had the funds and marketing chops to capitalize off that potential.
Just a thought off the top of my head, but I think this would be a huge opportunity to get some great publicity on social media and attract new users.
Which brings me to....
Onboarding Is Getting Better But...
It still sucks. Here's the simple fact of social media, people go where they can talk to their friends and family. Most of their friends and family have ZERO interest in a decentralized blockchain where they can get rewards for posting on. What they do care about is...Liking Grandma June's new recipe she posted!
And to like things, they dont need a memo key. They need a username and password. And I know, lite accounts is being worked on and things have improved a LOT. However helping people have a natural experience from day one here, is still important!
SMT's Aren't A Thing Anymore Huh?
I love Hive Engine. I think what dLux is building is fantastic. If these are our layer 2 options, perfect....
But let's improve them and make them absolutely flawless. From the user experience, to the back end code, the worst thing that can happen is promoting our layer 2 solutions and the stuff just stops working. Obviously, I'm not the tech genius and these guys are much more talented than I could ever hope to be. However we cannot forget the importance of a flawless user experience.
I Love HBD....Why Isn't It Everywhere On Social Media?
We saw Celsius crash and burn. Lots of 'safe havens' in crypto have burned their reputations because of the yields they promised and couldn't deliver. Don't we have the ultimate stablecoin??
So why isn't it EVERYWHERE on social media and being branded as the safest 'bet' in crypto?
So here's the thing about what I've mentioned above....
I have OOOOOODLES of patience!
I know this blockchain is still just a puppy and development is a constant here. So trust me when I say, these aren't things I think need to be fixed tomorrow or else we're all going to zero. These are just my observations from someone who uses this stuff every day and has built my entire business and livelihood on it!
We'll get there, and I know we will!
Would love to hear what you guys think should be a priority for Hive to grow and become the blockchain we all know it will be!

It is pretty creepy the way everyone is ignoring what is happening to me and still going to Hivefest. Lay the dirty snatches out why dont ya. Fake it all you want creeps, its so obvious the blind eye you are turning. @fyrstikken told me what V2K and RNM was before they turned it on for me. Around that time he introduced me to @roelandp . I still have the emails between myself and @roelandp . This chain is centralized by design and @fyrstikken helped set it all up to fuck everyone, one by one, slowly into my situation. This is no joke you dumb mother fuckers, they shock you to your thoughts..... Hello????? It is in store for everyone you fools and your helping. I think the priority should be more applications on Hive. It's hard to onboard people but they will naturally flow over if you have something they want to use.

I love your enthusiasm! It's very infectious. I'm not involved in any development (and am frankly a little too much like Grandma June, except with much less time on my hands), and yet I'm also endlessly enthusiastic about Hive. Wherever you look there's something interested being developed, a cool new community popping up, or ideas being discussed for how to make this platform a true social media destination with all the barriers to involvement a thing of the past. 3speak and splinterlands are day to day apps that people would normally use, throw in liketu as well. I think these apps should get extra attention, but like you said, I think there are really a bromance, it's a decentralized chain so chasing collective goals can be difficult sometimes. But we just have to up the ante
Yeah for sure, and the last thing these projects are waiting for is hand outs. They are adding a ton of value!

I must say that I really like that you emphasised that we have no central figure (which is great), but instead tons (with a bit of exaggeration) of excellent apps. This is definitely a good way to compensate (and I will re-use it in the future, definitely).
I don't comment on the rest of your review (because I have not anything particular to write), but I share totally the HBD part. Why aren't them spread much more?

How about an easy signup process for any layer two apps via Facebook?
I think that's being worked on with lite accounts.

With Twitter, no problem. But with Facebook, I tried it several times using LeoFinance, but still not working.
Power in Community!
I feel that onboarding in a Geographical area starts to reach a critical mass situation.
I live in Table View, Cape Town, South Africa.

Its incredible to think that such a small and obscure place has 11 accounts. When larger cities have less.
But its critical mass. Start with family and friends and grow from there!

Hive just needs to keep building and developing and coming up with real use-case dApps that people will pick up and use for reasons beside "make money creating content."
For me, Splinterlands remains our flagship initiative because it brings people here who are playing the game, not just looking for ways to put a few cents in their pockets.
I think we'd do well to have actual ecommerce conducted in HBD here... that would create a real need for people to buy and hold HBD. I'm hopeful the Hivelist crew will be able to bring us something...

I would love to see SPlinterlands push SPT and Splintertalk more to the gamers. That would really introduce them to the community here!

Wouldn't it be great to have a more fun Direct message system...I get that you can text anyone on peakD but it's a little complicated and hardly any one checks their dm. I don't think I'll always want to chat on the comments section everytime, lol and it'll be a lot more fun to communicate here instead of going all the way to discord.
I like that you were honest in your review and we could as well start by killing the hate but I guess it's inevitable, we're a community of different people with different backgrounds and cultures, and it'll certainly be something if we all coexist in peace, doesn't mean it isn't possible...and upvotes distribution would always be a problem because some people would still feel like their posts are still undervalued with no attention.
Apart from that, I think the apps are growing, I wouldn't want them to rush their growths, instead let's strive to achieve something a little more perfect... we'll get there soon enough..

A blockchain version of Discord has always been the dream for a lot of people here, I've seen it mentioned so many times. That would be something awesome for sure!

Onboarding users is somehow the most difficult part. It's not easy to convince people to come join a network where none of there friends and family are. On top of that, try explaining to them their keys and how to use them. To them, there's no concrete reason for them to join even if they're paid in crypto for engagement.

Hive needs apps with use case. Because that is what will bring new cashflow and also establish the blockchain's value. I think we need something like substack on Hive. Like we release the newsletter on subdomain and get paid in tips on hive with those votes. I mean that is one way to appreciate the content on hive as well as some new source of income for the writers. I feel apps like this would be a good thing on Hive.
Interesting idea. We might have something along those lines...Stay tuned!

I love the platform and I don't think there's anything wrong about pointing out a few things that could be done to make it better.
I think marketing the platform and some of the big apps here would be great, there should be some funds set aside for that alone.

I will happily say that Hive is not perfect. It is tricky to get into, but I have less techie friends who manage okay. We also have a 'clique' who get a lot of the rewards. I tend to not vote for them as they don't need it. I am also a massive shill and sometimes it works. I just can't see why even the crypto fans don't use it instead of Twtr, FB and reddit that are all centralised. Is it just because they can't stand to show support for a different blockchain?
Blows my mind...The influencers that yap about blockchain and crypto, meanwhile they never use blockchain based social media.

The onboarding thing is really a problem to get mass adoption. I know some people who are crypto noobs and even worse are also PC noobs. There is no way to explain them how everything works. I tried it and all I hear is, yeah you know how crypto and all these things work. Yes, now I know but I had to learn it the hard way and read a lot of things and ask people. Most people will not put in that work.

I agree with you and I think people sometimes forget that Hive is a great social platform . it is not just a crypto. In the future the use of a crypto will become more important. The value comes from real world use as opposed to many that are just "currencies".
Use case is a overlooked thing .
