Why Are People Having A Hard Time With The Changes On Splinterlands...?

So....Elephant in the room!

Splinterlands announced some big changes that will be taking place at the end of this season. If you did not get a chance to check out the post, be sure to give it a quick read here!

There's some fantastic commentary and posts already about the changes, and some people love it while others are up in arms about them...

So I figured, I'd give my 2 cents...And what's awesome about the news today, I actually learned something new about the game we all love so much :)

I Never Understood This...

So one of the changes will be the leaderboards and how you only will get rewarded according to the max level of the league you are in.

What's hilarious to me is that...I never even KNEW people were taking advantage of this. For me, everytime the option popped up to progress to the next level and climb the league....I did it!

I mean, for me it's a game and aren't we trying to get to the higher leagues???

Nope! Some people just stayed in the lower leagues and beat the crap out of newer players...They did this because it was quite lucrative. Not anymore.

Personally, I like the change because....I didn't even know you could sit around and pick on the little guys LOL

Play 2 Earn, Pay 2 Win, Play 4 Free....

I think what is so exciting about this game is that it's unlike anything out there right now. The Splinterlands team used the examples of Magic The Gathering and Hearthstone, but to me...It's so much more.

You see, the rewards are being nerfed where Bronze players are getting way less than before. Only 10% chance of getting a card and the removal of DEC. That sucks....If you look at this game as a play 4 free model.

But Splinterlands is not that. I think it actually combines all of these models and spits out what we have here.

Play 2 Earn - Elements of this are everywhere. The more you progress, the more you can earn through chests and rewards.

Play 4 Free - Sure, you can grind! It's rough. It might not be lucrative. But you CAN still progress, even more so now with the changes I mentioned above.

Pay 2 Win - And here...Is what makes Splinterlands unique. This is a blockchain game with an amazing economy within it. From DEC, to SPS, credits, guilds and the NFT's....You see, it's so much more than just a game.

So combining these models, you get Splinterlands!

And I think people are having a hard time with that because they come from each of these models, and are used to either or...But not all 3.

I like the changes, and I think this is part of the growth and maturity of this game. It's new and there will be more changes I'm sure. But that's what it needs to grow and attract everyone to this new model.

#GameFi is what the cool kids call it. And I can see how it has the potential to change things for online gaming....No matter what model you may be used to!

I didn't know that you could do that and its messed up that people were taking advantage of it. I'm not against the changes they made at all but I would think it would be easier to just make it so you don't have the option and auto advance you to each level you qualify for.

I always scratched my head everytime I was presented with that choice. I just assumed everyone progressed up the ladder. lol

It is just like hive itself. You can make it work with only a little hive and do the grind to get more. However, the more you invest the faster your account will grow

Yup, great point. It brings such an element that we've never has before in gaming.

I’m thrilled to be part of this new era and be an early adopter in it

Yeah it is a trade-off. I know some people aren't happy with the pay 2 play model but it does protect the investment better and stops the leakage.

Agreed. And it's still early. We'll see the repercussions or results from these decisions in a few months from now. I think it'll be positive!

My son @puffdaddy5488 just started playing #splinterlands this last week. He seems to like it, but I will let him speak to it for himself.

The sky could be the limit for this blockchain. Sounds like they are a very proactive crew there with the Splinterlands team. Got to love that!

I'm still figuring out the basics of the game because I just started playing it a few days ago. I still don't fully understand how to get new cards either.

Welcome to the fun :)

When you start, it's mostly from daily quests. But as you progress and the new Chaos Legion deck is released, you will be able to purchase card packs.

I agree. They are on top of things and truly will develop this to be a winner for years to come!

On one hand, I do feel the nerfed rewards are unfair to newbies and will make it tougher for them (and I say this as a Diamond level player). But on the other hand, I didn't realize there was so much abuse, making bot accounts that stay at low levels just to mine reward cards. That in mind, this nerf makes a lot of sense. We have to stop that abuse.

And therein lies the incredible challenge to all these games. How do you reward new players in such a way that less honest whales won't abuse? That is really tough to do!

Yeah exactly!

It's tough because you wanna cater to really, every group of player. From the newer ones, but still protecting the whales investments too.

That's why I think this is such new territory for games across the board!

Not sure how I feel about it really. I mean I don't play much... too much building and other things going on, but I did like the little bit of rewards I got for playing... And what is the attraction for newbies who then can't earn anything? It's just like any other game at that point. But I don't know. We will see how it pans out. But I agree that it is more than just a game. If you do it right and get involved with the community, it can be more lucrative than just playing. I am trying to get to a point that I can do some live streaming of some splinterlands play and some TA at the same time... mix it up, lol

I think the big thing is that new players can still get rewards, it's just been nerfed so it encourages them to dive into more areas and aspect of the game.

It's really important for them to feel like their time is valuable tho!

Yeah for sure. I really want to dive more into it myself and actually do some streaming on it and such. I think once all my development is done on these other projects, I can focus in on that.

I think that the nerfed rewards are very unfair to newbies. Sure, I understand where the devs are coming from but still...

Hopefully it encourages them to look into deeper aspects of the game. Not just play 2 earn, but also the economic side of it as well.

It's actually a nice move tbh. It'll encourage people to upgrade and rise up the ranks.
Also, earning credits is nice, since you can just use them to buy cards.

Yup, that's a sneaky little bonus a lot of people seem to forget. Those are used for card purchases!
