Analyzing The New Changes Coming To Splinterlands.

png_20240224_133253_0000.png

From the 29th of February, playing Splinterlands will be different. Again, the changes are going to be chaotic and this is because of the time of transition. First of all, I think that Splinterlands Inc. understands the importance of adoption: smooth, easy, usable, and tolerable entry into the game. This is also as important as retention. Adoption and retention must somehow sustain a balance so that a gaming equilibrium can be established.

I believe that not everyone will be entirely pleased with any change (whatsoever) coming to the game and this is because the industry; the user base, comprising of investors and players is diverse. Everyone has a separate opinion of what is good for the game which often creates a healthy conclusion. At the end of the day, it's only the people at the top that has to make the difficult decisions.

For example, I've been happy and sad with some of the changes that have happened to the game, but at the end of the day, I'm only a small player cum investor whose sentiments are going to be tilted to wanting what's overly good for me alone. This is how most people are, but at the end of the day, establishing a coming ground for the greater good is what the creators of the game are aiming to accomplish.

So the creators are aiming to overhaul the barrier of league limitation which makes it easier for people to use their assets across the format where they're playing without being limited by the level of their cards, summoners, or even incur penalties for being too small or being too big. It's like just removing every form of league limit and allowing everyone to battle it out. Of course, this looks quite good, and not so good.

The argument against is that, big players will run riot and trample on small players. Yes, this will happen, but only for the first few days. The argument for is that it now allows bigger players to migrate into higher leagues instead of staying and farming where they'll not be facing tougher opposition. I'm hearing that with time players get to be matched with those who share similar ratings. SPS rewards will no longer be divided by leagues, except by either modern or wild. This seems promising, but if it's not tested, we can't completely say it's going to be 100% good.

First of all, I think it's good that you don't need to know a lot of details to play.

Simplifying game-play is good for proper understanding and documentation especially since there might be an influx of newer players during the bull run. It's important to decide on changes that can push the market. I mean everyone wants to game to experience 2021 again, that's why most people are liquidating their real-time assets and investing in splinterlands, so emotions are going to be running high because money is involved.

The impact of this change is that it'll initially favor those with high-level cards and summoners.

This is because since everyone can now play with their smallest or highest level assets, big players get to quickly climb up higher. The upside to this is that when the bigger players have finished migrating, there will be an invisible league barrier, where people can now begin to play with those who are their equals in terms of rating. So the league barrier might not be there anymore, but the rating system will now act as a form of invisible barrier.

Now this change will spur players to go shopping. Because it's going to be firstly chaotic, some people will want to rent high-level summoners just to take advantage of the initial chaos to move up.

Card prices might go up

This is evident in the fact that concentration is now being paid on the level of cards and depth of in-game assets. So while you'll lose nothing by playing with lower-level cards, you'll in fact gain more by having higher-level assets. So this change is giving the opportunity to finally relax and trust in the level of asset you own (for smaller players) or get greedy and aim for even better rewards.

This takes away the discrimination and segregation that small players typically experience, especially in terms of earning rewards. This creates an avenue for you to just be a small-time investor and still maximize rewards by being an exceptionally good player. This is Splinterlands simply saying "Okay, it's still pay to earn, but you can now play more to earn if you are creative enough"

I don't know how long card prices are going to go up, but for the time being, it will. Card sales have probably been neglected for far too long, and it's probably time to concentrate on it. I mean SPS has been taking the shine, this is because of its newfound utility, but it's probably time to balance things up.

Modern is probably more organized at the moment, so this change will work perfectly there. I don't know, it might be tricky in Wild where there are still more bots. A lot of farming might happen in Wild. i.e. a bot owner might just unleash the bots, rent expensive summoners, and just farm away. It might not. This is purely hypothetical.

So will Modern Get Easier?

I don't know. You might have the same rating as another player and they'll straight-up tear you to pieces. But it's worth a shot for those who haven't played in modern in a long time. For example, I'm probably in Novice because I haven't played in modern in a long time. However since I can use the highest level of my card now, I can choose to start playing in both leagues. It's tricky, modern might become easier, and it might become harder.

Splinterlands is full of people who are tilted toward less effort, more rewards (All human beings are) So people might choose to do what's easier and pays more. However, the only thing I can say at the moment is that the game will become chaotic and take about 2 to 3 weeks before the storms calm. It's going to be a rough ride, initially many will have it advantageous, and some will suffer terribly, but this will only take a matter of time.

It will be interesting and will favor those with the highest level cards. Hopefully it will help out card prices, but there are just so many Chaos cards and associated rewards cards that it might not help them very much.

Finding new players and retaining them is really essential, and here is where I kind of feel like they have been failing. They need to make it easier for players to start the game and earn rewards. What helped a lot during Chaos were the free packs, it gave new players a chance to accumulate cards beyond the rewards cards. Maybe they should start offering some Rebellion packs as a potential reward. I'm getting sick of pulling potions and merits almost half the time... Oh well...

It will temporarily favor those who have high level cards but this wouldn't be for too long, but it might just be very chaotic in the first two weeks. You're right it might not help much, but we're near the bull market proper, so I think a lot of people are going to be onboarded as well. So I feel that card prices will begin to go up, it might not be too significant, but it might be later than sooner.

I do believe that the bull market itself is when projects gets more attention, this happened to splinterlands in 2021, I believe it'll happen again.

It's also frustrating to be pulling potions, they're useless and I also agree that the reward format should be worked on. 80% of the people playing the game do not want potions as rewards.

One day at a time I guess, there's nothing else to do now. How about you?

Hanging in, that's all we can do. Just opened my reward chests for the day, I had nine but look what I got:

Potions and merits, the card I'm at a level 8 already and not even one half of an SPS. It's been like this for a week or so...

I also think that in the first few weeks it will be necessary to adapt and it may be difficult to win with players who have many top-level cards but then everything should improve especially if the matchmaking will be between players with close ratings.

I personally think that the most important choice to attract new players is to completely eliminate bots even from the wild because every time a format goes out of Modern it is an advantage for the bots and a disadvantage for the real player...

Nice post my friend

I'm hoping we can completely bots too even in wild, but I think splinterlands Inc is reluctant to do so. They feel it's good for business so they just let it happen. Overall I think it might just be a good change. I don't know how it'll be in the first few weeks, but let's wait and see.

Thank you for your support, and for coming by.

I have no idea if modern will get easier but I can't really get easy wins in modern due to my deck being not strong enough. So I think these changes will help me more than it will hurt me and I wonder how it will affect people who rent out cards also.

Well the changes might hurt in the beginning, I think the experience will differ for everyone, depending on their deck. I hope it gets better for people like you and I. I have a relatively small deck
