Splinterlands: Building Incentives That Are Not Purchasable With Money

Screenshot_20230506_221203_Chrome-01.jpeg

Another fray has come and gone in my guild and I'm happy to be paying for more gladius packs with the merit rewards I'm getting. If gladius cards were not soulbound-ish. I'm sure their value might have been bastardized.

When an asset is purchasable, it levels the playing field and gives more people with resources the ability to own these assets thereby terrorizing and monopolizing the power of these gladius cards.

This is because the Gladius cards are more powerful. For a long while, I thought they'll only be used in Guild battles until the "Are You Not Entertained" ruleset came into place.

The Stakes Are Changing

Now it gives guild players who have been amassing these fortunes (gladius cards) for a very long time, the opportunity to stun their ranked battle opponents.

I'm happy they'll never be tradable and even if they would, these cards have to return to the guild, or ranked gaming will become less competitive with this dominance.

For an average player who doesn't have the means, I might be tempted to sell some of my cards in other to purchase these cards, because of the power of these beasts and especially if I'm been subdued by them for far too long.

The Unfair Advantage

In life, we mostly purchase what has created unfair advantages against us for other people, because we want to easily establish that situation of unfair advantage against people, especially when we've experienced how brutal it can be, to be on a losing side and you cannot do anything to salvage it.

On the other hand, splinterlands have made this impossible.

You cannot buy or create unfair advantages by having money alone nowadays, you need to dedicate non-monetary value such as play time to build or amass some of these items that keep you insanely competitive.

The Inability To Completely "Pay-To-Earn"

In the past, it was easy to almost buy whatever you want to get to the pinnacle, rent a bot and put the game on auto and farm endlessly, but the narrative is changing.

They're gradually trying to reduce the idea that the game is completely "pay to earn" by making the guild cards soulbound (to an extent) One thing they've done well (splinterlands INC) is including the merits as one of the rewards in ranked battles.

This way, players can build their stash of merit and eventually use them to buy as many gladius packs as they want especially if they now decide to join a Guild in the future. The future is actually now.

Creating Domineering Utilty

Before I joined a guild, I hated merit rewards, now I'm always hoping and wishing for them. Splinterlands has stylishly made it very important and necessary for players to join guilds because the incentives are now piling up.

In the past, I never saw any reason to be there, but with the inclusion of those beasts into ranked battles, the narrative has changed. Apart from earning staked SPS, and getting more gladius packs from the merit rewards as well, Players can now effectively build unique strategies.

for people who have been diligently building a differently gifted deck________The Gladius Army On splinterlands, your resources matter to some extent.

Having A Different Type Of "Skin In The Game"

This means that the more skin in terms of money, the more you're likely to achieve a lot of your aims. Like the number of collection Power you want, the number of legendary cards you want to own, and even the amount of staked SPS as well.

However, it's different nowadays, Some of these competitive assets require a complementary skin: Time and resilience. So again, I got 17.1 staked SPS and 1.55k MERIT in my latest guild involvement (better than last time).

But I lost so much and this worries me. Again, the opponents are taking advantage of the Gladius stash to blow apart their opponents and I've been beaten severely by these cards. The aim is to keep building my collection, In 4 months, I want to be able to have a fully competitive gladius deck.

Even if you lost quite a bit, if your guild wasn't filling all the brawls before, you are still helping your guild. Any win you get will help and even 1 win can help tip your guild upwards in the rank. So I would not worry about it too much.

Yeah, I noticed we've been moving up the ranks lately, I guess those little wins have been instrumental... Hahaha, thank you, sometimes it becomes bothersome to lose that much.

It's possible to write. It takes practice and intentionality. Writing often develops with time when you put a lot into practise.

No doubt the gladiators push players to be strategic more than we have been with the monster cards, we have to consistently find ways to win battles with the gladiators in our possession. We are left to only wonder about these soulbound cards with the gladiators inclusive, should they be for sale in the future how much will they sell for? I think Quora will be a huge demand with the potential to sell high.

If the Gladius cards become sellable it might make the market unstable. Some of them are just too good. The Quora for example. I'm still hoping to be able to win some someday. The gladiator's addition has been a menace in the normal battles. I guess if you can't beat them, the best thing is to join them. I like the challenge though and I'm relishing it.

I do hope that you can stash up your collection so you can have an advantage as the rest of the other players. And I am hoping you won't have to stay for four months but less.

It's great that the splinterlands team have made this game play to earn and not really pay to earn so one can have skin in the game in order to fully utilize the potential of the game.

All the best in your coming battle 💪

Hahaha it's becoming Competitive with thousands of players pumping thousands of dollars into the game. Because let's be realistic, the game is very rewarding.

Thank you for your well wishes, I'm hoping I'll be able to get things done in less time than I expected. How is your mother?

I completely agree with you that merit reward was very annoying before not until I joined guild and I realize how important they are. Splinterland is changing everyday and we must change with it

Hahaha there was a time I hate merit awards as well. Them I got into guild and sometimes I began to wish it's only merit awards I get. Splinterlands nowadays is for the fittest of people and I'm glad we're going strong everyday.

Glad that was invited early to join a Guild. I forgot the exact month. I think up to Silver League, my gladiators are competitive enough.

I don't have Competitive gladiators at all. It's kind of painful though. But it'll take time and I'll get the opportunity to build mine. Merits can only be earned so I have to wait.

If you want your other #Splinterlands accounts to be in a guild but they don't qualify for your main guild, you may join the #DBuzz guild instead. 😆😅

Well, a few days ago, I was thinking of transferring all the card assets of that account to my main account for using that account in fighting battles is getting more expensive.
