Splinterlands: The Economics Of Getting Into A New League

Aiming for silver III in splinterlands was particularly tasking, it would mean opening new packs and getting to 15k collection power. Originally buying 117 packs cost a little over $500, but what was the aim of buying this pack? Building a deck that is worthy of competition and keeping some in order to take advantage of the impending scarcity, especially when all the packs sells out.

$500 in an inflated Nigerian economy is a lot of money

it'll surely not make a lot of sense to tell an outsider, that I invested an overall $900 in a game, they'd either think I'm stupid or ignorant for doing so, but wait. The kind of mental accounting done by me, would be different from a person whose ways of measuring growth is by calculating profit and loss on a daily or monthly basis.

This is because the whole concept of crypto and blockchain gaming is sophisticated, the economical methodology to investing in such a game would be quite bizarre, but then money itself is bizarre, and following the conventional principles of real-time investing can never be equated with the one we do, online on a daily basis.

Spending Beyond The Budget

While I have left myself get carried away by FOMO, a lot of splinterlands players are way above the initial amount of money they intended to spend or invest, and why is this? The prospects of more gains is the main reason why people spend a little over what they initially planned to. But who isn't carried away by this? Splinterlands on its own is 100% addictive if the fun doesn't make you spend over your budget, the money would definitely make you do so.

For many, it's the latter, but for me, my drive is basically to build a different stream of income that I could look to dip into in 1 or 2 years from now. The time frame for building that particular stream would be now and while the gains would be particularly low at the moment. The best way to grow it would be accumulating those little wins consistently for a long period of time. I am a patient man, one thing people in this line of work do is to underestimate the strength of a patience and how it basically rewards people who diligently holds the line

Without continuously rambling about this, I got into Silver III for the first since October

when I started playing and I did so by meticulously utilizing what I had at my disposal. I mean, this would mean nothing to some users or players who only comes in to check their rentals, calculating the DEC or dollar value. I mean, there are people who own over 5k CHAOS LEGION packs but looking at or measuring the skin that some people have in the game would deter you from building what you prospectively want to enjoy and this is why it's important to build independently without measuring your influence with other people.

Money can never replace doggedness and consistency. Some people talk or declare their intent using the myriad of resources they have at their disposal while others with limited resources have the chance to accumulate little gains be being calculative and consistent at all time.

Staying Afloat Or Counting Your Blessings?

It was a delight yesterday evening to finally get into silver III, being that we only have less than two days to the end of the season. I was always skeptical of moving beyond Bronze I and this is because of the fear of falling back into the lower tiers and losing my x9 reward. With splinterlands even people in the big leagues can fall back to being novices when they compete and lose or when they even fail to compete at.

So it's the game of competition and one eventually has to play to keep their numbers when it comes to things like seasons reward. However, it's all about having a choice. Personally the ultimate goal is to continuously compete in silver III because I don't have the means at the moment to compete in silver II, leaving aside that the fact game is difficult to compete in, having the means to even compete is a different part of the game's economy that you cannot fail to reckon with.

Milestones: Step By Step

If I can constantly compete in silver III without having to always drop back deeper than I expected, then I'll consider this as a huge accomplishment. I still have to merge some of my summoners and monsters to level two and so many other intricate aspects, but the joy here is that I got the job done this season and the funny thing is, I had to depend mostly on opening my packs to get to this stage.

So, I'll be expecting x12 rewards and a possibility of even getting a CL pack. The possibility makes it even better. With the right potions, I could even get a legendary card within the pack that was given to me in the season's reward. But this is all speculations. Being speculative is being outrightly calculative and this is everything that comes with the game.

With my tactics and the right resources, I could easily gallop into Gold and even farther. Some of my tactics has been brutal and lethal. The way I totally murdered some opponents in the bronze leagues is nothing short of creative. But will I have the resources to repeat this feat in the higher leagues? Only time will tell.

I purchased a good chunk of CARD POWER to get myself into Silver II - I always aimed to buy 1 CP for less than 1 cent. The REWARD cards are always cheaper at the start of a season when they're given out in bulk for season rewards, if you're looking. Djinn Bilka x 3 (for a lvl 2 legendary card) will be 1500 Card Power for $10 or so. That's a bargain!

Some cards were more expensive, but balanced out in the end. I am convinced the WATER splinter team is easy to build and really cheap, so is Earth. I don't tend to to play the others, because I havn't built them - but that tended to work OK.

I always aimed at opening my packs to get into higher leagues rather than renting, I don't know why I prefer this method, but it seem like works best for me. I relied on my lack opening to unlock bronze I and now silver III, but then, it's not all over, if I have the extra means I can rent.
My water and earth collection is a beast, my death and fire as well and I'm recently building my life collection.

In crypto especially

Nice growth.

Who knows, maybe in few years time, becoming a full time splinterlands player will be a thing.

This is absolutely true. Investing in crypto has shattered real-life economics and how it works. I guess this is the aspect of dynamism that crypto brings. Thanks brotherly, for everything.

You're growing bro, and that's all that matters. Don't even worry about how it seems. Just do your thing.

I've bought 681 packs so far and I'll still buy more. Remember that because you can't explain to people doesn't necessarily mean that you're doing something wrong.

Sometimes, it's even better that you can't explain it. Na you know where and when the profit go come, na your risk and na only you e concern.

Those same people wey you dey reason spend money on dumb shit with zero chance of making profit.

By the time CL packs are trading for $30, you'll be smiling to the bank.

Hahaha thanks a lot man, in fact, you're right when you say it's better to not even explain it. In reality everyone takes risks and the kind of risks we even take is absolutely better by all means. I think I have come to terms with accepting that outsiders will look to the surface and not understand how we make our decisions. The future is bright one way or another even if we don't know from where.
I bought 117 packs overall and I just have 39 left and I might be adding more too as well.

681 is huge, wow, Omo. You're making a huge statement with this, hopefully that scarcity will bring lots of gains.
Thanks for the motivation bro.

Thanks man. I've opened over 500 packs, I have 100 unopened. I intend to add another 400 to hold and wait for scarcity.

The person I onboarded can get to Silver by the end of the season using just level 1 summoners so it definitely is possible. Sometimes he can get there in a few days and other times, he only gets there around season end. However, I think it really depends on the type of strategy you use in fights.

Congratz on getting to the new league and I hope you manage to stay there until season end.

Oh I have stopped battling and this is probably because I want to collect the x12 reward and the possibility of even getting a CL pack in the reward, I'll continue battling again tomorrow when the season ends. It's the first time for me getting here and I'm thrilled already. Thanks for the support and advice.

If you have some extra collection power and you stop fighting, you should rent out your cards. However, you should make sure not to rent out too much because your rank will drop if your CP drops below the minimum threshold for your rank.

I remember when I told one of my friend about splinterland and how much I have spent. He was shocked but not surprised because he knows I am not stupid.

Splinterland is lucrative and you never can tell I might retire just playing game

Yeah, you might actually retire playing games you know. Splinterlands is lucrative, that's how much I know, I think we're not stupid, we're just trying to build an extra stream of income for ourselves.

If you can, try to rent some card to get a higher league, if not for anything else than just for boosting your confidence.

Otherwise, there are a lot of players who are earning a lot of rewards in small leagues too.

I know, every player his own strategy and mind but, whatever I have learnt about you by reading your post, you are also beleive, at least, in experimenting a couple of times.

Am scared of you now bro! I have been wanting to challenge you for a battle but with the way you have advanced in the game I better stay in my league and not get my ass kicked by you.

Congrats though you've done great in reaching Silver league III worry not about falling back to lower league, adapt in there, learn new strategies and kick asses.

Hahaha, I'll equally fall or drop back when the season ends but surely I would get back in, make a statement and try to stay in there. My my aim would be staying in silver III next season and vying to play in silver II as well. I know that before the end of the year, I should be playing in Silver I.

Don't fear me, I can never challenge you hahaha you're the master, I'm still understudying you. Hahaha.

$500 in an inflated Nigerian economy is a lot of money

I swear it was this amount that made me open this post because I knew I wouldn't understand anything when it has something to do with splinterlands. 🤣🤣🤣

Mehn, that's really a lot of money over here. I keep checking the value of my wallet everyday, and my heart beams with gratitude. Cos every time I look at it, I think of all the people who would break the banks if they had this sum in their accounts in my country. I say, to myself, iska, do you know that's someone's four months of salary in your wallet? Do you that's someone's 8 months of Salary? Hive has done a lot for me. I am damn grateful.

And like you I am committed to accumulating the little wins. Right now, since I do not have the resources to buy this that token, I have one thing that everyone else has... Time. I am committed to using my time judiciously to do all that it takes to accumulate. It might seem little at the moment but I know the future is bright. And it's the future that I am banking on.

I'll have to borrow your patience too. I need it as much as everyone else. Congratulations on all your accomplishments. Keep soaring boss. ❤️❤️

In reality, diversification is key on the hive blockchain, it's why a person needs to build different streams, inasmuch as Splinterlands isn't yielding dividends at the moment I believe it should in the future, so I'm trying to secure that particular aspect on time, since I missed out on all those gains in the past.
I'm happy for how far you've come, you're an inspiration, infact you're the dream a lot of inconsistent people should be living. I don't know how you find that energy even if you've got the time.
Keep soaring always. You're a star.
