Splinterlands: The Reason Why I Ran "WILD"

Anyone who knows the TV series Alchemy Of Souls and plays Splinterlands will mostly understand the concept behind the title of my post.

However, I'll be more detailing about what I truly mean. I have 77.3k collection Power and I qualify to play in gold three of the modern format, and on the modern format, I qualify to play in silver one, max. The interesting thing here is that the modern format, automatically qualifies me to earn gold chests, since my max league is gold three in the modern format.

Normally, it's going to be assumed that I'll automatically prefer the modern format since it is my window for earning gold chests.

Well, the devil you know will always remain your favorite

In all sincerity, I prefer playing in the wild format because it allows me access to all my cards which has come to form a sizeable percentage of my strategies and earning DEC there is much better, I've always played in the wild format until the new ECR system came into play.

So the thing is that whenever a new season begins, I'm always at the beginning of Silver 2 in modern format, while at the beginning of Silver 3 in wild format.

Now, losing just one single game in wild silver 3 takes me back to bronze one, where I lose the full strength of my cards since they'll drop their levels, which might inadvertently incur a huge losing streak, taking me further down and making it difficult to climb back up.

A Losing Streaks, Comes With A Downward Spiral

A reverse psychology perhaps?

So the advantage of the old ECR system was that I could keep playing, winning and losing until I climb back up, but it's hard to do that with the new system because one might spend 20 to 30 ECR and still not climb out of the abyss.

I played about 25 games In my attempt to leave the bronze league in wild format and I won about 7 games and lost 19 cumulatively, tanking my ECR to an unbelievable low.

It's incredible how the fight is feisty in the bronze leagues of the two formats, and I reckon that if I continued to fight to get out, the more ECR I'm going to lose. Fighting in the bronze league negates my plans to maintain a healthy ECR.

The Other side of Change

The luxury of competing in the formats is no longer viable and this is because of how precise one needs to be about winning. Although competing in both leagues gives you options, of flexing your deck depth.

A lot of players experimented daily with this with the old ECR system, but when there are changes to the system, adaptability becomes the next thing.

In one of my posts, I talked about how I wouldn't want to buy ECR just to compete this early. The reason is that the money is not there and even if it's there, the goal would be to use it to strengthen my deck and increase my probability of winning.

An Opportunity Cost

Now, fighting to be playing on wild format, takes away my ability to fight for more daily focus and set aims for how many chests I'd like to win on a daily.

So, the plan is to sacrifice the availability of all my cards just to focus my ECR on accumulating more chests while playing in the modern format.

The reality of the situation is that I mostly start the season in Silver 2 in the modern format. So even if I lose a couple of games at the beginning of the season, I'll go down to Silver 3 where I will still have the full level of my cards to play with.

Limits breaks Targets

Targeting 45 gold chests this season was my aim, but sadly, this wouldn't be possible because I dedicated a lot of my ECR to fighting it out in the wild format.

Another benefit of playing in the two formats is that it allows you to switch when you begin to incur losing streaks. However, what I do to tackle this is to take a break whenever I go on a losing streak.

This way, I'll recharge my ECR, while taking the time off. From next season, I never want to go below 25 on my ECR and there's no way I can do this if I'm competing on all fronts.

100k CP?

buy some ECR then?

Another way to escape this is to aim for 100k collection Power, which I reckon I might be able to get to before the end of the year.

So not playing in the wild format again will take me back to novice, and even if I did achieve 100k at the end of the season, will I be willing to sacrifice my ECR to crawl back up?

I don't know, maybe by then I should be able to have enough money to purchase some DEC to do that, but for now, the focus is on winning and winning with high numbers, while maintaining stability, so this is why I ran from the wild format.

A Legendary To Delight In

So I scored another legendary yesterday in one of my chest, and it's my favorite, water card, the KULU MASTERMIND, just one more card to have this beast at level 2

this is one of the reasons why I want more chests, more chests means more reward probability and to get this, you'll need the ECR to compete, so it's back to owning more ECR and I think this is a very logical sacrifice at the moment.

I am a fan of wild just like you in that all cards can be played. When splinterlands boomed in 2020 a lot of cards value was out of my reach and made it easier to stick with using older cards. Don’t fret about being stuck in bronze/silver. For over a year I was in silver most of the time !LOL !WINe

Yeah, some of those older cards are amazing and sometimes the value they carry is really good. This is why I'm such a huge fan of wild. It's saddening being stuck where I cannot compete.

Wow hahaha, that's quite comforting for me. When did you eventually leave?

Ohhh Jose KULU MASTERMIND is a card I want, well I wanted all cards last time I checked but KULU interests me a lot, I have lost to it twice and it could be a force to my deck if I get it.

As for the Energy required for battles, I drained mine to 1 two days ago and had to stop, I am yet to buy Energy but I don't see myself avoiding that for too long the battles are tough and we need the chests so one has to pay for Energy at some point.

It's the second KULU I'm getting, which means that if I get another, I'll make it level 2 and see what other abilities I might unlock. I'm sure you'll get it, it's inevitable

Hahaha draining yours to 1%? Wow, well you're right. The battles are getting tougher which means at one point in time, we would have to eventually buy some.

Yeah, I was on a fairly good win streak so it was an opportunity to keep playing and accumulate the chests.

Presently, I focus on playing in modern and wild is way out of line for me but I will
Start experimenting in wild soon but I will have to buy ecr to run it perfectly.

Seriously, wild is crazy. I think this is what I'll do; buy some ECR and try to compete feom novice, way back up. For now, I just want to accumulate and win in modern.

It’s hard for me not to play seeing the new cards but I have to hold out! Lol. I’m waiting until the next collection releases so I’m saving thousands of DEC to buy up a few hundred packs. If all goes well, I’m hoping to get 300 packs if I can manage that but who knows. With “inflation” the price of a pack might be fucking 8$ at the next one. Untamed are 2$ was by far the best, I’m seriously hoping that we can get back there to that or maybe 3$. 4$ was too high IMO.

When I get back into it, contending with the ECR business here sounds like a real hemorrhoid lol

Yeah, a lot of people says untamed are the best and it's saddening that I wasn't there to actually actually buy the untamed packs. But there would be a lot of opportunities ahead. I think you have a very solid plan there, and I'll have to come up with a plan of my own as well .

Nice legendary card and it's tough in Splinterlands lately. My energy has been drained quite a bit and I am nowhere near the point where I would like to be in terms of chest. I think the collection power solution will work out quite well for you.

Players have gotten better overtime and it's made it quite challenging to actually compete. I'm also nowhere where I'd like to be, but I think I've learned a lot of lessons from this season and I'm hoping to get better by next season. I think we're still adjusting to the new ECR system. It'll take time.
