Splinterlands: The "X" Incentive To Stay Competitive

avatar

png_20230407_053155_0000.png

It's been a very rough week playing splinterlands. Surprisingly 50% of the defeats I've suffered have come as a result of not having the cards that suit the ruleset I got and of course, this directly translates to the fact that I could have had these cards, or the level of cards my opponents played in if I had enough money to level up.

The other 50% of defeats have come as a result of being too predictive, too calculative, or letting the pressure of losing one precious ECR point to an unwarranted or preventable defeat. So basically, I can say I mostly lose 50% of time because of my fear of losing.

The competitive psychology of splinterlands these days makes everyone too careful

You cannot be caught off guard trying to experiment because trust me, when you enter a losing streak, the pain transcends into real life and you basically feel the agony in your chest. If you don't already know, splinterlands is an emotional game.

The pain or joy of losing and winning translates to us in real-time.

I got into a seven-game losing streak some days ago and I could feel some lumps in my throat, the agony was so intense, it ended up ruining my game. Two days before then, I tried battling to leave bronze in the wild format and just a game to cement myself in silver III, I lost five games on a bounce and the pain was too unbearable for me.

A Negative Streak Changes Everything

I lost over 25 ECR and I couldn't find that courage to battle, I always fear that I'll get beat again, and trying to go again scares me. The reality is that the new ECR system comes with the scarcity phenomenon so in a bid to prevent yourself from losing, you end up losing so badly.

Sometimes it's not really about losing, everyone is used to losing on splinterlands but going on a losing streak, or losing games we could have actually won makes us even sadder, precious ECR points are being lost, and the more losing streak we incur, the lesser game we can play.

So running out of ECR is not what anyone wants to experience and because it costs money to even get them, makes this scarcity phenomenon even scarier on splinterlands.

On the other hand, yesterday, I got a pack from one of my daily quests

.......and for four days, I got nothing reasonable and now getting a pack made me really happy. I knew that it was worth over $2 and the joy of owning that pack excited me a lot.

The joy translated into real life and I could find myself summoning the courage to actually do battle. In reality, when you win, the joy of winning brings an extra motivation to compete.

This is how failure works and brings a negative effect as well. Being emotionally vested in something might take away one's ability to stay clear-headed when it comes to choices and decisions making.

One of the reasons why we are sentimentally attached is because there are monetary incentives on the line as against the non-monetary inputs that we've vested in the game over time.

So because of the efforts, time, and money, sentiments automatically become a thing.

Splinterlands does not just draw you in financially, the game is created in a way to fully ensure 100% user retention, through selective addictiveness. This isn't a bad thing by the way. They make sure that having skin in the game is the biggest way to increase your chances of winning and if this in itself makes people part with their hard-earned money.

This is one of the reasons why I think that with the right finishing touches and constant improvements,

splinterlands can become one of the best in the whole gaming space and not just blockchain alone, and the prospect of this is just too exciting.

The Summoner's Goal

One of the goals I'm aiming for is to build level 3 and 4 Soulbound summoners. So far I've only gotten one soulbound summoner at level 2 and my goal still pends and I'm searching.

I have set a time frame of 7 seasons to achieve this feat and from the beginning of August, I want to have level 3 soul-bound cards across all elements.

I already have level 3 and 4 of so many soul-bound cards. Getting them to level 5 will mean I'll need level 3 summoners to be able to play some of them. So, I'll see what I can achieve at the end of these 3 months.

Word of advice, check the time of the day when you win more, some hours are more competitive than others, while also first and last days of the season are more competitive too.

Yeah, of course I know this. But we can't deny the fact that that players have become stronger and it's almost competitive all day round. Thanks for the advice.

In the bid to prevent yourself from losing you end up losing badly; this happened to me not quiet long. I think that i was afraid that i will lose and it happened.

I have come to realize that anytime that I am afraid or not so sure od myself i end up losing but once i have confidence over something or maybe sure sure that i will win it turned out great and boom i am a winner.

I hope to learn and be able to play splinterlands game someday.

A pleasant Morning to you.

splinterlands is an emotional game indeed. The win and the lose all plays with our emotions in real life but going on a losing streak, or losing games we could have won can be so devastating. Sorry to hear that you lost your precious ECR points. I hope you discover a better way of playing the game to stand more chance of winning

All the best Joe
SPL game is not for the feint hearted like me 🚶🚶🚶
Good morning oo

Looool who said it's not for you? It's definitely a tough one, but sincerely it's a beautiful game. If we don't lose, but in life and in everything, then how do we even appreciate the beautiful feeling of winning?

It's just quite pricy to compete that's all haha.

Thanks for your well wishes.

Splinterlands has been kind of tough and I haven't done so well today in terms of fights. It really depends but sometimes the luck itself isn't there. Good luck on getting enough soul bound summoners for level 3 on all elements. I don't think it's impossible but I have a few at level 4 but others at like level 2. The luck is kind of random.

I haven't been playing well since the beginning of the season, mostly because of how badly I've done in the wild format and this has affected me a lot. But what I've learned is that I need a bigger and better strategy if I'm not going to repeat the mistake of this season at all. So far I'm beginning to feel the limitedness of my ECR.

Wow you have some at level 4 already? That's amazing, but like you Said, sometimes it all boils down to luck.

I went to double check and it looks like I am not at level 4 for some of them. I thought I wasn't too far and I saw that I had one halfway between level 3 and 4. I think I got mixed up with the common versions but the BCX difference is kind of huge. On some of them, I am anywhere between like 5 BCX to like 20 BCX. It's all luck though.

The BCX is huge on some of the cards, which means you'll need a lot of those cards going forward. I wish you good luck with it, since it's a long game of accumulation, I have no doubt that you'll get it done, even if getting these summoners is really difficult.

I would really love to learn how to play this game. It's like you're at a party but you don't know what's going on, putting you on a lower level than others. That's how I feel when splinterlands is mentioned. Everyone seems to know it. But it doesn't sound like a normal game. It sounds like you need a lot of discipline and caution and hard work. Is that right?
On a better note, I'm sorry for your seven game losing streak and I'm glad you had a chance to recover.

It's a beautiful game. I started playing late, after 3 years of the launch and my! did I regret it, yes I did. However I must say the reason was because I didn't really have money to begin with, hence I couldn't compete. I learned 80% of the game in 4 to 6 months though, but it's all about having some cash.

Those Soulbound summoners are proving difficult to get as they can't just be bought / hired! Definitely noticed that competition is tougher this season for some reason...maybe the land Surveys have reignited people's interest to start playing again?!

The summoners are so difficult to earn these days and I can't believe most of mine are still in level one, I bet not a lot of people expects the summoner to be this difficult to earn though.

maybe the land Surveys have reignited people's interest to start playing again?!

This is true, but then again, the new ECR system is fun and I'm sure a lot people with money would want to maximize their rewards.

The land Survey hype is just so unreal these days.

when you enter a losing streak, the pain transcends into real life and you basically feel the agony in your chest.

I know that feeling can ruin the moment if care is not taken to take a break and stop playing.
What are you doing in Bronze Jose, I thought you were done and dusted with that league, that place is horrible to be battling, I will lose my find if I have to fight in Bronze, those guys know how to pile up misery on opponents.

I am on the cusp of silver one in wild format, while in silver 2 in the modern format. So if I mistakenly lose a game in the beginning of the season in the wild format, I automatically enter into bronze 1.

Congrats on the pack pull. It always cheers me up getting a pack. I know what you mean about the losing streaks and it is sometimes hard to stomach. I try to just think that it is the algorythm balancing things and not my bad play. lol

Haha you're right when you say it's the algorithm balancing things. One thing about losing streaks is that it makes you doubt your strategy and these days, I've been taught very bitter lessons and I think I'll be better next season.

Thanks for the congratulations.

Congratulations on your pack pull and the soulbond monster which are very powerful. Most of this soulbond at level are very difficult to play against and you having them at level 3 is awesome.

Hahaha you're right, some of those soulbound cards have incredible abilities and increasing their level even makes them more badass. Thank you bro, we keep grinding
