Upgrading Splinterlands Cards Amidst the Changes & Chaos

Untitled design_20240409_190122_0000.png

I have been upgrading some of my splinterlands cards, including the Demonshark, Djinn Rennova, and many others. I am primarily concerned with cards that I upgraded halfway through 2022, which are the reason for receiving some abilities if I upgrade them. There are numerous reasons why I chose to do this. The first reason is for the gameplay.

Reward Comparison| Before & After

I have noticed that I am losing a lot of points due to level disparity. I could have easily won these games. Due to ECR limitations and the removal of SPS from season rewards, it is now critical to win at least 50% of one's games. I get between 0.8 and 1.2 SPS maximum per game. Before the change, I got about 0.3 SPS to 0.7 max, which is not much, but given that I used to get about 50 SPS when we earned chests, I do not think there will be much of a difference.

However, the element of surprise and expectation has been removed from Splinterlands. I have been upgrading my cards for 3 to 4 weeks now; I upgraded two of my summoners to level three, but even after the upgrades, I still can not play some of them at their full potential. Summoners are expensive, and all water element cards are more expensive.

Water Element Cards Are The Most Expensive To Upgrade

For example, when I tried to upgrade the Baakjira, I discovered that I needed two BCX, one of which cost more than $2.5. (One of the best CL cards with retained value) Another reason I chose to upgrade some of my cards is the possibility of resale. I do not have much to spend on epics and legendaries. So far, I have upgraded one legendary, a few epic, and more common cards. So, even if I decide to sell some of my cards, I will be able to sell them for a reasonable price.

However, for the time being, simple upgrades will allow me to compete even more effectively. I have a lot of cards that need to be upgraded, but I can not afford them all. At the very least, I will need about $200 to do some of the basic upgrades I want; so far, I believe I have spent $50 or more in the last few weeks, and it is been a period of decision-making; opportunity costs to determine which cards to upgrade.

Silly Upgrade Mistakes

However, I made some silly mistakes. For example, I have a level 3 Thaddeus Brood and upgraded my Venari BoneSmith to level 4 without realizing I could not play it. The same is true for my Diemonshark, which gained the enrage ability at level 4. Unfortunately, I only have level 3 Thaddeus Brood and Kelya Fredul and am unable to play my level 4 Venari BoneSmith and Diemonshark.

I was so overwhelmed by the poison and enraged abilities that I forgot what level of summoner I had. I will now rely on my level 2 Possibilius the Wise to play the Diemonshark at level four.

This is why upgrades are beneficial, but checking your summoner and understanding what it can and cannot summon to the battle is critical.

Talking About The Changes

Splinterlands has changed dramatically, and a lot has happened. However, these cards are valuable crypto NFT assets, and even if I am no longer playing for a profit, owning and possessing the assets means that I can potentially profit from the cards as their value increases.

I am not sure if Splinterlands will ever reach the massive price value of 2021, but even if it doesn't, it will still have some relative success in the bull market, which could lead to potential profits.

A lot of strange changes are taking place, and they happen almost every month. I am hoping that these changes can be revamped and halted so that players can continue to enjoy gameplay. However, I am still playing as much as I can and putting my cards to good use as much as possible. It emphasizes the importance of upgrading now.

Now Is The Right Time

It will almost certainly be impossible to complete those upgrades in the next 6-12 months. I am unable to do so for Hive due to a lack of resources.

I did buy some small SPS and stake them for gameplay, and I am glad I did not touch my Hive while doing so. Scraping pennies here and there to fund these upgrades has been beneficial, but I am unable to make additional investments due to health and living expenses.

So, there you have it; I am still actively playing in diamond 3, the Wild format, and I am grateful to those who have continued to delegate SPS to me.

Those changes have been painful... You're right that you have to win at least half to make any SPS, and the glints do not provide nearly the same amount of cards you used to be able to earn with chests. I really hope for a recovery, but I worry they are pushing the game down with the constant changes...

Some people, are trying to look at the positive; SPS price go up, people buy more SPS and so much more. However I just feel like out of the many changes we've seen, this one seems to be the one that just don't work well. I might be wrong, but you're right, it's real a cause for concern

SPS could go up if they got it on an exchange, but it won't stay up because of the underlying game problem....

Well it's a very complicated problem to have and I don't want to be splinterlands INC at the moment, but making the wrong call at this moment isn't a good thing

Inflation has been out of control for a while. These changes print less cards which should mean less cards to go around. This burning event though needs some serious mega burns to remove that old inflation so a lot is counting on it.

Well the changes aren't completely bad, it's just that it comes with a lot of things that sadly affect gameplay in ways that aren't good. I'm certain that burning cards will be inevitable, I hope the changes eventually come good.

It takes time to upgrade cards and I think summoners are the first thing to upgrade. It sucks to see that you can't play the card because your summoner isn't high enough level.

I am playing Diamond II and I think I got above 1.2 SPS per win. It's not that far from you so I think the staked SPS might be the factor that increases the SPS you earn by quite a bit. The new reward system gives fewer rewards.
