Onboarding My Friend To HIVE

1641552028868.jpg

I was in Ethiopia for about a month in 2019, I met my good friend @tadesse upon taking a side trip to Lalibela (home of many beautiful churches carved from rock). I have several posts from Lalibela you can search for, you should check them out. Anyhow, they've had a rough time there in recent history. The town was seized by Tigray rebels, who brought violence to the local population. The Ethiopian military recently took back control in time for Christmas (pictured). This forced many residents (including my friend) to flee for their lives. Long story short, I'm trying to onboard my friend onto HIVE so that he can post about his experiences and his beautiful town and to help support his family. I've already created an account for him, if you'd like to give it a follow (@tadesse). There are no crypto exchanges where he lives, so I am offering to buy any of the HIVE or HBD he makes from him.

Splinterlands

I wasn't planning on buying anymore packs for Splinterlands, but it turned out the number of packs purchased to receive the airdrop went from 350 to 500. I decided to bite the bullet and buy more. Between my main account and the pool I am a member of, I received a total of 5 Spirit Hoarders. Those additional packs did go a long way to completing my Chaos Legion collection. I now have all of the common and rare cards, and I've made good progress towards getting all of the epic and legendary ones.

FIRO Node

So for whatever reason my FIRO node keeps dropping off, which means I haven't seen a block reward for a month now. At this rate I might have to rebuild it from scratch on a new VPS. Every time it gets this status, I have to generate a transaction. Afterwards the node comes up, but then drops off again in about a week.

FLUX Nodes

Along those same lines, both of my FLUX nodes dropped off, but at least I know why. They had a software update I missed so I got forked off the chain. Restoring them was simply a matter of updating the software and resynching the Blockchain. One of them is up and running again and spitting out rewards. The other one is having issues. Coincidentally, my FIRO node resides on the same VPS, so I may need too spin up another VPS and rebuild all the nodes on it from scratch.

You purchased 1525 Chaos Legion packs? So you spent 1525 Vouchers + $6100 USD ($4 USD per pack) worth of cryptocurrency? Damn. This is crazy. That is more than the twice of my annual/yearly pension-like income for my multiple disabilities. I mean the $6100 USD. I live with multiple disabilities, nowadays under the local minimum wage. My pension-like income in real life is approximately $3000 USD per year (approximately $250 USD per month).

The huge financial differences around the world is crazy/insane.

Hopefully I will get out of the financial discrimination one day.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

Hopefully I will get out of the financial discrimination one day.

What is financial discrimination?

I'm a small fish. For Splinterlands I'm not even in the top 200 for packs purchased, SPS or most anything else. Nobody ever gave me anything. As a child I grew up on welfare. I own any success I have, and it was through sacrifice, focus, effort, and the choices I made. Contrary to your implication, by picking themselves up, other people are not holding you down.

I'm sorry life is difficult, but your mindset is very unfortunate. Disabilities aside, obviously you have a working brain. You are participating in an ecosystem with so much potential where that is all you need. Perhaps you need less excuses and placing blame, and more ownership of your own life.

What is financial discrimination?

Receiving a low, pension-like income for having multiple disabilities, and also working in a four hours per day part time job, but still receiving less than the local minimum wage. This is financial discrimination. And the Hungarian government intentionally do this. And there are other things. Please do not judge without knowing me and my detailed situation and circumstances.

You're right, but isn't this what you did to me in your initial reply? Didn't you not judge me based upon some results of success without knowing what it took to get there? It just gave me the impression that you think the world owes you something, and by extention of that, I owe you something.

No. I did not judge anyone. I am just shocked by this huge financial difference both around the world, and also (maybe especially) in other countries in Europe. That is all. But the "world", more specifically the government, indeed owe me something. And that is the local minimum wage. No one should receive less than that. This is why it is called minimum.

Every European country give at least the local minimum wage to its citizens. Except Hungary. And the minimum pension is another thing. The government did not change its amount in the previous 15 years. 28 500 Hungarian Forint (HUF) (currently $90.28 USD) per month. Is this even legal?

If I judge anything, then it is the Hungarian government and the European Union (EU). Why the EU is not doing anything against this tyrant, dictatorship-like government? For example why they let the government steal the private pension funds from the people? And all the other stealing this government is doing. Shame.

There are many questions.

Thanks for the clarification. I visited Budapest a few years ago and thought it was a cool city. I hope that your country can solve its problems.

I also hope this.

Nowadays we (the most of us) have very low salaries, very high product prices (compared to the salaries), very high, 27% VAT, which is currently the highest in the whole EU (European Union).

And some people do not understand why many (especially young) people leave the country. Many skilled people also leave. Especially doctors.

By the way, it is also worth to mention that we (Hungary) are still using the worthless Hungarian Forint (HUF) currency, while we are a part/member of the European Union (EU) since 2004. I say worthless, because 1 HUF is currently $0.0032 USD or €0.0028 EUR. This may sound hilarious, but even some of the joke cryptocurrencies worth more than this.

The EU does not do anything. Locals does not do anything. Many of them leave instead.

I still have hope that the situation and the circumstances will get better.

Have a nice day. All the best. Greetings and much love from Hungary.

You are now part of a larger ecosystem that transcends both your national borders and currency. Ask yourself: How can you participate more in the digital economy to reduce your reliance on the failing system?

Have a good one!

From 350 to 500 seems rather challenging, but the truth is, I'm thinking it's to probably create intense competition as well as lure people to buy more as the sales have actually taken a slower outurn lately.

I think the main reason is so they don't print too many of the airdrops. Think about it, as we add millions more packs to the mix, the next set of airdrops will be much higher in number than the last.
