TWO BIG CHANGES THAT WILL BOOST MODERN CARD PRICES

avatar

If you're like me, and see your Splinterlands assets as an investment, as well as a way to play an awesome game, you might be wondering if this investment will ever pay off. Did we join in way too late? Will assets continue to drop? Where's the 10X that all the OG players talk about?

I came into the game in December of 2021, which is a little bit before the Chaos Legion general sale begin. Majority of my investment is in Chaos Legion packs and cards, so what I like to do is look at the expected pack value of a Chaos Legion pack!

Over the past two months, Chaos legion pack values, as seen from Splintercards.com, have fluctuated up and down, but have generally been declining. It's gone from about $3.75 in mid January to $3.60 in February to now $3.20. Untamed and Dice pack values has followed a very similar decline.

All this sounds like such a gloomy outlook for those of us that invested heavily in Chaos Legion cards, BUT there are two interesting catalysts coming that will significantly increase demand for Modern cards!

The FIRST is the change to the rewards economy and SECOND is the introduction of the Modern and Wild Format! Both of these changes were announced in the townhall from a few weeks back when Matt joined us. I want to walk us through why these two changes will be huge for card value!

Change to the Rewards

Matt announced a change to the rewards structure a few weeks back - one that not everyone may have specifically heard. We should be expecting this change to come in May. While a lot of the details are still kept under secrecy, Yabamatt mentioned one very significant piece of information

Using cards that players do not own will reduce rewards earned!

WHAT! Up until now, whether you use the ghost set of cards provided by Splinterlands or cards that you've purchased and own, the amount of DEC rewarded are the exact same.

Now that there's a shift in philosophy to push players to OWN cards, the demand specifically for the current set of ghost cards will increase significantly. Whether the "players" are bots or human beings, each account will now need its own set of cards to earn the full rewards that come with battles.

In the next few weeks - as the new reward structure is formalized and announced, I think single BCX cards that impact the meta will jump in price.

From Untamed, you'll want staples like Living Lava, Serpentine Spy, Unicorn Mustang, Failed Summoner, Khmer Princess, Truth Speaker, Ice Pixie, Serpent of Eld, and Shield Bearer

Untamed Monsters 2.png

From Chaos Legion, you'll want to pick up cards like Diemonshark, Deep lurker, flying squid, Silent Sha-vi, Cursed Windeku, Goblin Psychic, Regal Peryton, Tenyii Striker, Pelacor Arbalist, and Time Mage

Grab them now before the price hike happens!

Modern and Wild Formats

To add on to the demand for cards, we're also expecting Modern and Wild formats to come out! Now the biggest part of this release is something that you may have accidentally skipped over.

Yabamatt said during one of the town halls that the new format will have the collection power requirements halved?? This means that the requirement for Silver III, which is a lot of beginners' starting goals, is only 7,500 power!

If you're playing in higher leagues like Silver 1 or Gold 1, you'll be able to jump a couple levels - likely into a completely new league. As historical bronze players play in silver, silver players play in gold, gold in diamond and so forth, the level cap for monsters grow. What this means is that players will want to buy cards to level up their deck!

League Requirements.png

People playing in higher leagues increases the level cap for the cards they use. This encourages people to buy more BCX of the cards they enjoy playing with, which in turn increase the demand for the modern cards.

Summary

TWO big changes coming up that's going to drive demand for modern format cards! This demand can either ramp up Chaos Legion pack purchases, which has seemingly stopped to a screeching HALT, OR we might just see individual card prices on the market tick up!

What are your thoughts?? Have you, or are you planning to pick up a few of your favorite untamed or Chaos legion cards in preparation for the reward structure change? or are you planning to wait for the announcement before making any decisions? Are you going to shift up a league, and are you planning to level up your summoner and monsters?

Not a bad analysis of the market for upcoming changes! The only concern is that a lot of players who sit on bots won't buy cards, and will just reduce their farms. And the price of maps, I think should stabilize or start to grow when they start updating with lands...
Either way, it's interesting to see if your prediction comes true!)

I was more so thinking that the bots have been so profitable, the bot farmers will actually invest in some key cards to continue reaping the rewards!

As far as I can see, they were fine with the old cards as well, but who knows?) Either way it will be interesting to see it...

I hope you're right. Definitely feels like were moving sideways or not moving the needle at all. Rewards changes need to be a positive to attract new players. Sharing this on https://twitter.com/PraetoriaDigest.

I SOMEWHAT agree. I actually think there will be buy pressure because people no longer want to hold DEC. They'll want to hold assets like SPS and cards instead!

Hello Josie, what a nice video i love the way you talk and the comments you make! Thanks for the effort in your publication! I thinks right now is a good moment to buy some CL cards and i hope that we will see that 10x, untamed cards only if you have a large budget. But if you want to get on ladderboard
for sure you gonna need some of those untamed cards! Nice leak, maybe that is it? half CP? i don't know nothing. Also the games will be more newcomer friendly and i think CL cards is the way for them.
