Battle Mage Challenge: Explosive Weaponry. Strategy, My Battle and Alternative Lineups

avatar

This weeks Battle Mage Challenge is about the Explosive Weaponry rule.

Splinterlands tells us the following about the Explosive Weaponry rule:

All units gain the Blast ability.

Additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up.

Include a unit with Reflection Shield in your lineup to absorb blast damage and protect your back line.

Explosive Weaponry is a fast paced game rule that brings much higher damage to the table than most matches. Blast damages the targets beside the main target with half the damage, meaning that if it can hit two units, each attack deals double the damage in total.

Blast can be countered by Reflection Shield. This tends to be very important to remember when selecting teams for this rule. Additionally, speed is greatly important, since each attack is so powerful. Striking before the opponent can give you the advantage you need in this rule.

Desirable Abilities

( Reflection Shield, Scattershot, Snipe Taunt )

Reflection Shield is the most important ability in this rule. It protects against the blast damage, making units that have this ability much more durable than other units here. Secondly, it is great to hit targets in the middle of the opponent's lineup. We can do this by either Scattershot or Snipe. Finally, to protect our units, we might want to include a Taunt unit, ideally on either end of our lineup flanked by a Reflection Shield unit.

Advantaged Summoners

Conqueror Jacek is likely the best summoner for this rule in general, due to his high speed and Scattershot ability. Reklah can be useful because he can give two units Reflection Shield, while Lily controls the attack target and can easily place a Reflection Shield unit where the Blast damage will hit.

Battle progress and Result

Already early on in this battle I'm struck with some bad luck. After Runic Skyclaw and my opponent's Ash Mirage has attacked, the Djinn Apprentice directly strikes and kills my Dhampir Infiltrator. Futhermore, I'm really disadvantaged because I do not have Piercing, and my opponent used a Ferox Defender. After all units have attacked in round 1, the state of the game is this:

At least in the second round, my Runic Skyclaw does a good amount of damage to the enemy Ash Golem and some Blast damage to the surrounding units. Then Ash Mirage strikes my Arkemis and kills the Tenyii Striker with the Blast. Another hit goes onto Arkemis, and one onto the Runic Skyclaw. The final strikes of the round bring down my Arkemis, leaving Rune Crafter to tank for me.

In round 3, I am finally able to take down the Molten Ash Golem, which removes the Weaken from my units. However, the Djinn Apprentice once again strikes where he needs, and brings down both my Rune Crafter and Ash Mirage. Now I'm left with a unit that cannot attack, and I've lost the match. I think I had a bit of bad RNG here, but this match shows again that Jacek is a really powerful summoner for the Explosive Weaponry rule.
