Battle Mage Challenge: Silenced Summoners. Strategy, My Battle and Alternative Lineups

coverimage.png

This weeks Battle Mage Challenge is about the Silenced Summoners rule.

Splinterlands tells us the following about the Silenced Summoners rule:

Summoners do not give any buffs/debuffs or grant/use abilities.

Use your lowest cost and highest level summoner within this ruleset.

That makes sense. This rule removes any effects of the summmoner choice, apart from which color you select. In general, silenced summoners means that you should always pick your cheapest/highest level dragon summoner (if available). The dragon summoners are always the best in this tule because they have access to more cards than any of the other choices.

Advantaged Summoners

These four are the cheapest dragon summmoners, and are therefore the best choices for the Silenced Summoners rule.

In Bronze and Gold leagues, Daria and Sthispa are sometimes the best choices since the fact that they are epic summoners allow them to play higher level rare monsters. In Bronze, Epic summoners can play level 3 rare cards, while other summoners are limited to level 2 rare cards, and in Gold league epic summoners can play level 7 rares while other summoners are limited to level 6 rares.

My Battle : Silenced Summoners battle

My battle had the following configuration. Tier 4 Brawl, fray 7 (wild gold league). 17 Mana, Rules: Stampede, Silenced Summoners, Reverse Speed. Fire, Earth and Dragon available.

This match is quite hard to decide the approach for. My main decision revolved around selecting a melee fire team (many great slow melee monsters there), and an Earth based team (various good slow monsters, but Queen Mycelia in particular is game-defining). Dragon isn't too relevant here, since it is low mana, and the low cost dragon monsters are generally pretty fast.

My lineup

In the end I decided on the earth lineup. I did not feel confident that I could produce any fire lineup that wouldn't just be blocked by armor. I put Hill Giant in front because he is a very bulky and cheap monster. Next up, the fiend just to fill to slow, and I'm not too worried about a gladiator spinning out of control here. Then Queen Mycelia and Dr. Blight. Finally, I put two rangers just in case my opponent decides to go for a magic reflect monster such as Failed Summoner. Maybe the slow from Swamp Thing is a bit malplaced in this match, but the weaken makes up for it, and apart from that he adds great stats for the mana for this match.

Opponent's lineup

My opponent also went for an earth based setup and indeed put a magic reflection monster in front, although it is Lord Arianthus and not Failed Summoner. The tank is followed up by two mini-monsters (seems like i'm not the only one gambling with gladiator snowballing for this game), and then a Screeching Vulture. Vulture is rather fast, so its not the best pick for this match. Finally, they have a Wood Nymph to support the tank, and a Goblin Chef, probably intended to counter a similar support-based setup (which I did not run).

Battle progress and Result

As round one gets going, I have the speed advantage and land a few hits on the Arianthus. My Dr. Blight hits both his random on-hit effects, which is absolutely devastating for my opponent's strategy. I take a little bit of return damage, but Queen Mycelia heals up a bit of it. The Flying Vulture misses its hit on my fiend, but the rest of the hits land on the Hill Giant.

In round 2, the Arianthus suffers two damage from poison, tanks my Swamp Thing and Mycelia, but is finished by Dr. Blight. Meanwhile, my Hill Giant tanks the Goblin Chef and Wood Nymph, before slapping the chicken out of play. Finally, my Xenith Archer takes a strike on the fiend, who dies, and the Vulture is left fronline to hit the Hill Giant. This time the hit lands.

image.png

Now my Hill Giant tanks its last hit, because the Goblin Chef has the first strike. It dies, and then my other units take their shots at the Flying Vulture. Once again the Dr. Blight lands its poison, but not affliction, and because of that the Vulture gets healed up a bit by the Wood Nymph. However, the Xenith Archer does a bit more damage to it, and at the end of the round it is left with 2 health. Once again the Vulture also misses the fiend.

Now the game is decided. The Vulture dies from poison, and my units quickly finish off the Wood Nymph. All that remains is to strike the helpless Goblin Chef a few more times. Finally, in round 5 I can watch that satisfying victory screen and secure a win for my guild in this brawl.
