SplinterLands Art Contest 159 // Frozen Hell shores of Azmaré

On my spare time I like to paint digital art, especially sets and landscapes.
Recently I got very interested in SplinterLands, and I began to read about the lore and backstory of the game.
Since I’m very excited about the Land Expansion ( I’m more a builder than a fighter ).
I looked at the map and picked a place for my future painting project.

I chose the shores of the Frozen Hell, the uninhabitable wasteland at the north east of Azmaré, the land of the Water splinter.

Here’s a little step by step of my process:

-First the lines.
I try to draw clean lines, because I’ll keep some of those in the final picture.

Then I choose the mood and block the main base colors.

Then I add the shadows, the lighting, go into more details.
I also added a boat at this point. I imagined our SplinterLands adventurers searching for crystals near the Frost Giant’Lair :)

Finally I do some fine-tuning, adding some gradients here and there, and adding some colored lines from the initial drawing. I could have kept more lines in the final rendering but I like that abstract feel brought by the big color shapes.
