Battle with Exploding Rats - First time I used this monster!

There is a monster in my lineup that I have not been able to use since I got that card - Exploding rats!

Let's take a look at this card and its stats -

image.png

Positives: Low Mana, 4 Speed, Blast Ability, and 2 Melee
Negative: 1 Health

I have a level 1 card and this is a Rare card. Even if I level up, then too, I only get 1 Health for a top-level card. Pared with Tarsa summoner, I can increase its health by two but a monster with opportunity ability can easily kill this monster. If my opponent has chosen the Water unit, then it is likely that my Exploding rats monster will not even get a chance to attack.

However, I did get a chance to use this card today. The Battle rules were as follows -

  1. Monsters with 4 Mana or below allowed
  2. All Melee attack monsters have Sneak ability

I decided to use Exploding rats for this battle - The only risk being that a monster with Opportunity ability in the opponent's lineup kills the monster at the end of my lineup because it has the sneak ability as well, or does it go for the monster with the lowest health?

My lineup for the battle was as follows -
Summoner - Level 2 Tarsa (+1 Melee, +1 Health)

  1. Level 2 Xenith Monk with Heal ability - This is a great choice for low mana battles specially where only level 4 mana or below monsters can be used as it will keep restoring its health each round
  2. Magma Troll - Could have chosen some other card as this too had the sneak ability
  3. Spirit Hoarder - Chose this as it keeps restoring the health of monsters in the back of the lineup. Also, the magic attack can ignore the armor of the opponent's tank
  4. Exploding Rats - Attack 2 with one stone
  5. Uraeus - This is already a sneak attack monster that pairs well with Tarsa
  6. Antoid Platoon - Since all monsters have sneak, having a monster with thorns or shield is useful at the last place

Start

All monsters get +1 Melee and +1 Health. Exploding rats have the highest speed so did attack in the first round.

Serpentine Spy from the opponent's lineup ended up attacking my rear tank and therefore Exploding Rats was left alive for the entire game!

Round 3

Just one monster from the entire lineup is left and all my monsters are alive. I did win this battle in the end. To see the entire action, please go to the battle link shared above.

I think Exploding Rats have a use case as I found out today. However, there is a limited use case. Let me know if you can think of some other strategies/games where exploding rats can be used effectively!
