Splinterlands, another currency added and lootchest fun gone?

I know everyone wants Splinterlands to come with updates on the game and make a sustainable economy so that 'the new guy in town' but also the OG card collectors have a nice experience to go with. And it aint easy making a game where the tokenomics are not only sucking everything dry. Owning something is not easy at all. So I get it that the game is making changes and trying to go ahead with something

The more recent reveal: the introducten of the GLINT token.

And as usual is, I only found out because when I opened my game I saw that something has changed,

All of a sudden there are GLINT rewards when playing a ranked battle. Checking out the FAQ to see what is going on?

Do I Have to Spend My Glint?
No. Glint can be accumulated indefinitely. Some players may wish to save their Glint for higher-priced items like titles. Players may choose to accumulate Glint to get a head start on buying the next Soulbound reward card set or future items.

And looking what you can buy from GLINT at the moment in the rewards shop you find this:
Soulbound Reward Card Draws
Merits
Potions
Energy
Limited edition tiles

Great!!! Exactly everything that I do not need!

The good thing:

The good thing about this is that there is no more SPS in chests but it can only be won by playing ranked battles. That reward is a lot higher compared as it used to be in the previous seasons. Here you can see that in my silver league that I am getting about 0.3 SPS per battle, which was less that 0.1 if I recall right for the previous situation.

The bad thing about all of this is that there are no loot chests to be found anymore. And that exactly was the reason why I always like playing. Getting chests is the reason why someone who just starts all of a sudden can have a chance on getting a really decent gold legendary card. That aspect seems gone.

The site says that 'lootchests may be added in the future, and I really hope they do this. The suprise element of the game was really something that I always really liked. Even though more than often the chests had nothing fancy inside, just the fact of opening 60 if them was the damn fun!

And what about the amount of currencies in the game?

I have been playing this game since the start as a recreational player, so I followed all the trends on what all what currencies were added.

After DEC and later on SPS we also have Merits that can be one playing with you guild. With credits is the currency coming directly from fiat. Glint is now the token that you win from the game. And in land you have the production points, the time crystals, the grain and the reasearch points.

Giphy

Good luck trying to understand this when you just start playing the game.

As always...I have to give this some mental time to see how it all plays out and what it will do for the game and the amount of fun that I get out of it. But as always...It feels confusing and I am not trying to be the pessimist here.

It's getting silly isn't it...? I'm now 100% certain land is going to be designed to suck resources in if you want to go down the upgrading buildings route!

For sure not going down that road. Paying out at the right moment it is

Not a fan either, I liked the chests.

Exactly, the chests would have an element of surprise and luck in there. I have pulled some nice gems in there over the years and it is a bummer to take away that factor honestly!

Yep, they definitely need to bring the "dopamine rewards" back, although I would say the shop is a good step forward. Hoping for the time where they grow a pair of balls, realise that everything that is done to "fight bots and stop extractors" affects human players even more, and finally ban bots for good and reintroduce all the things we looked forward, such as the good surprises in a loot or a rebellion pack.

It sure is, and something that hasn't been getting nowhere near the attention it should. I still can't understand why they're trying to reinvent the weel, instead of dealing with the actual problems...

It's startling with all of the changes that are being implemented with many of the goals seemingly being short sighted. Thank you for covering this topic and sharing your opinion on the matter.
