When our parents speak

Greetings everyone!πŸ™Œ

I grew up living with my parents in the village, and as of then, life was a bit fair; it was not as corrupt as now, and we believed that parents are always right. Of course, that's African culture, and we never seized to play along with all the doctrines and instructions.
But what can we say now? Are parents still right at every point??
Things have really changed a lot, especially in this era of technology where children tend to have more knowledge than parents due to how deep the children are in the virtual world. But in all these, parents still stand as "always right" because what they see sitting down, the child, even when he climbs the tallest tree, cannot see it.

The moment when my parents proved right

Many years ago, while I was still in the village, I was this church boy, very committed and always available. I was known, loved, and welcomed by every member...as I believed
One particular Sunday, we just finished service, and I was going around attending to the numerous tasks attached to me by the church pastor. Along the way, I mistakenly stepped on the foot of one of the indigenous elders in the church who's serving as officiating minister too.

"Ohhhh! Sorry, sir, sorry, sir." I began to plead for forgiveness and telling him it wasn't intentional.

Before I knew it, this man raised his voice and began to pour insults on me, which gathered the remaining members that were yet to go home.

I tried to explain what happened, but no, his voice was sharper and louder because he's the elder.

To be honest, I really got angry. I stopped pleading for forgiveness and wanted to throw back an insult at him, but I couldn't because insulting an elder wasn't my thing. The words were too heavy to release out of my mouth.
When I got home, I met everyone, including my parents, talking about the issue. They don't attend my church, which is a clear evidence that the issue has spread abroad.

I was asked what happened. I took my time to explain and vowed that I was going to hit the man hard the next Sunday, and if I can't do that, then I'll stop going to church.
My mom and dad were not deep church people, but they took their time to beg me to keep going and avoid my intended battle, and most importantly, they told me to lay low whenever I'm dealing with elders occupying positions in church because not all of them are happy seeing that a young boy is occupying the same position with them.

Oh yeah, less I forget, I was occupying a bigger position than them.

Up until now, this advice has been helpful. Even where I'm currently worshipping, I hold a big position, higher than the mature people therein, but they can't see my back to pull up anything....no chance at all

The moment my parents were wrong

My dad is very disciplinary and can go to shocking lengths to discipline his children.

On one of the days I travelled home from school for a holiday, I noticed that one of my female junior siblings was not at home till 9:30 p.m.
I asked my other siblings about her, and I was told that my dad chased her out of the house since yesterday, meaning she didn't sleep at home for one night.

I laughed so hard because it was so unbelievable. How could he chase a 17-year-old girl to sleep outside the house? For what reason?

My dad was not around, so I waited for him to return, and I bombarded him with questions when he arrived.

Well, my dad gave me the gist of what happened and for sure , my sister was wrong because she was caught with a guy in an unpleasant way, and my dad couldn't let it slip off like that.

"Now that you chased her out? You're saying she should go and continue doing it with the guy, right?" I asked him, and he couldn't mutter a reasonable answer.

Thank God I was at home that day. I was able to call back my sister, forced her to plead for forgiveness from my dad, and that settled the issue.

Thanks for reading.

You really tried with that elder o, coz if it's me I would have insulted back o πŸ˜‚ anger can be a very crazy emotion sha.

I guess your dad chased your sister out of the house out of anger, he didn't think deeply about his decision. It's like catching a lion with a goat, and then locking the goat out of the house while the lion is still out there πŸ˜‚

Mehn, I can be very harsh when angry but I find it so hard to dance to the tune of insulting an elder....I haven't done it once. Maybe be one day πŸ₯Ή

Yeah, my dad didn't think deep at all, that's why he couldn't answer the question I asked him. Fear anger!

Thank you for stopping by

Sometimes even the elderly ones make mistakes, at that point it's necessary to correct in love and not mockery which you did
