Some things every Splinterlands player must know about lands!

Hello Summoners!
I wish you are having a wonderful holiday weekend!

We are all looking forward to the general sale and the kick-off for the new game modes.
The team is focused on making that happen as they expressed on previous Town Halls.

Leaving Chaos Legion aside for a moment, the interest for the land expansion is also growing, and hopefully it will increase as we get closer to that moment.
It's assumed to be the biggest release until date, and of course, also assumed to be the next main project to focus for the team.

However i've noticed that there's some uncertainty in this regard among the community and decided to gather some info and see what can we make clear.

Going thru everything could be very extensive so i'll focus on what i believe to be the most relevant.
If you want to expand your reading and go for all the exact details there's some links below where you can also check where i got sourced from.

Remember, this is still a project in development and it could be subject to changes.

The Splinterlands World

Splinterlands history develops in this islands or continents, on each of which inhabits each of the Splinters:

  • Khimeria ( Life )
  • Azmaré ( Water )
  • Anumün ( Earth )
  • Draykh Nahka ( Dragon )
  • The Burning Lands ( Fire )
  • Mortis ( Death )

There's a beautiful lore about this islands and their inhabitants, but talking about them would take a few posts for each...so today i'd like to focus in the misterious island/continent of Praetoria.

Praetoria

A short paragraph for some lore:

Praetoria has been firmly controlled by the elite Wizard's Council, they placed powerful spells there in orden to prevent anyone from entering, with the exception to the great Gloridax tournaments held on the Moxian Arena, in the shadow of Mount Mox. Since times of Splintering nobody knows the secrets held on its lands.

The Wizard's Council has suddenly and mysteriously announced that they will open the continent for ownership, giving the exclusive right to explore to three companies, which could later distribute explored land. With the recent dissolution of the council, Wizard's Veil of secrecy was lifted and the land of Praetorian continent was opened for ownership.

Briefly summarized this is how land pre-sale was introducced to us.

This land expansion will be developed in Praetoria and it's the place where land owners will claim their plots.
Therefore, Praetoria is the continent where we'll be able to interact together with the Splinterlands universe on many ways still to be determined, we'll talk about that later.

Land Sales

Lands pre-sale took place November 7th 2020.

exploring praetoria.jfifSplinterlands

The three stages on that pre-sale made reference to the three companies delegated the task to explore Praetoria on the lore pics, i think it was a great way to introduce those stages, and also , during those pre-sale stages lands were sold with discounts and great benefits when buying bulk.

First stages of pre-sale were sold out in a matter of seconds, as experienced members that took place on that sale have told me.

Then general sale took place and didn't take much longer to be sold out.
Nowadays we can only buy them from second party markets on Hive Engine or Atomic Hub (Wax).

The total number of circulating land plots is 150.000.
All the lands sold are ubicated in Praetoria, and it's been confirmed by team that it's not planned to take more land for sale.

It's been mentioned that there will be many ways to interact with the Land expansion apart of being plot owner. We'll be able to rent, participate in quests or boss fights...wouldn't be amazing to interact with multiple players on joint missions?

Lands Value

I'd like to talk about what's so special about them beyond its economical value.

As most of you might know, lands have considerably multiplied their value during this year, and even if i'm not an analist...prices are expected to follow this tendence as we get closer to the date of release.

We must take into account this is a project in development, we've got a conceptual vision of it, changes will be made...but some features have already been confirmed by the team.
Let's have a look at them!

Limited supply

There will only be 150.000 land plots in Praetoria.

In the case of our cards, we'll might have missed the chance to buy certain older sets, but production of new sets will continue and, over time, we'll be able to reach a good collection power with newer cards and supply the funtionality of those old cards we weren't able to purchase on general sales.

But back to the land plots...the team has made it clear that they do not plan to take more land for sale and even if that happened because the game really demands a solution to its scarcity...those lands wouldn't be in Praetoria, and wouldn't have the aura and the special boost these first lands have.

One single land plot is the smallest piece of land we can have, they're organized in 150 separated Regions (each one contains 1000 contiguous plots), this regions are subdivided in Tracts (each one contains 100 contiguous plots).

I don't want to go into many details about all the elements that could make a land plot special but, same as cards, plots will have an asociated level of rarity depending on the abundance of resources it keeps and the rarity of those resources...there's also chances to get an special buiding like a Castle or a Keep.

A combination of the rarest of all this aspects on a land plot could end up being one of the most valuable items in the game due to its scarcity and the needs for its functionality.

NFT Minting - Items & Spells

Nft's to mint Nft's...isn't it amazing?

image.pngSplinterlands

This new tipes of cards ( nft ) will be Items and Spells, and will allow players to place them in battle right before the start of it, making having them crucial in the future battling sistem.

Once minted, Items and Spells can be either used, rented or traded...it sounds like a revolutionary concept in play to earn.

Of course there will be necessary resources ( natural, magical and essences ), buildings and monsters or summoners ( to operate some buildings ) to mint Items and Spells, and that leads to the next point.

New Card Roles and Burning Mechanisms

All these new cards will take a process to be minted.

As i've been able to extract from the posted info, all this leveling up process will only have a cost in time, but it's been mentioned that boosting up these process can have a cost in currency and token being burned as a result.

It's expected players trying to mint their Items and Spells as soon as posible once land expansion is released, so we'll might see some tokens being burned.

In addition, it has also been glimpsed monsters and summoners to operate some certain types of buidings, and some of these monsters and summoners to have higher ability than the others for the jobs.
Nothing said yet about which could be the most valuable cards on that concern, but to be expected that those values could be asociated with their burn value or special habilities.

Both the revaluation of previous sets and token burning on buiding processes give special relevance to the land plots.

The Multiplayer Experience

The Land expansion introduces us directly into the universe of Splinterlands.

wallpaper_chaos-dragon-unleashed.jpg

We became part of the history of Praetoria and we'll have the chance to fight with other players next to each other doing quests or fighting bosses.
Hopefully this will be a real MMORPG gaming experience and boost the game to unknown levels. Chances are infinite and i believe we're all going to be kindly surprised.

I'm very excited about those new features and really looking forward to see what the team's got prepared.
Beyond all the value land has got for harvesting and minting being an owner, i think there will be a place for everyone to enjoy the lands experience in diferent ways.

Airdrop Points

Every land plot gives owner 10.000 airdrop points.

I know this won't be the main reason why anyone would buy land plots, but if we do the right numbers, 10.000 airdrop points over time give a good amount of Sps, (even more if we stake it) and by the time we get to claim our lands they will have already given us some wonderful profit.

Post

This article intends to be informative, none of the facts explained have the intention to encourage buying lands.
I know title sounds a bit fomo-ing but that's just for the touch of fun.

I have enjoyed like a kid witting this post and gathering the information, i sincerely hope that it could help someone clear up some doubts.

So much valuable info about lands in one place, thanks for posting! It's hard to tell if they are over or undervalued at the moment. I know many people like to believe land is going to skyrocket in the future, but it's already trading at 25x+ it's original value and we don't have further information on the full details of how it will be implemented. Best to DCA in!

Thank you so much for reading! It's amazing how prices fluctuate in crypto space, i tried to make a non economical based review, i'm doing some more research to have the right numbers handy and maybe write about that projection.
Take care and again thanks for taking some time to read and comment!
