Well, I think downvoting is at the end of the day going to be a needed function if Hive is ever going to actually compete with something like Reddit. That said, downvotes are not effectively harmless like they are in Reddit and actually impact a posts value and not just its popularity. As such, upvoting good posts has become the much more important action to take as upvoting will trend a post and lets the bad posts naturally fall out of view.

It's a great point that hive votes have more influence than reddit.
It is definitely not harmless, but neither is spamming screenshots of your daily quest without adding anything to the community for personal gains.

How is it not? I'd think it would only be harmful if they are able to earn from those posts and then are constantly selling their earnings thus devaluing the economy.
I'm not saying it isn't annoying. Sure, it creates a lot of clutter and no one genuinely reads garbage posts like that so it doesn't add any value to the community but to say they hurt the community isn't really valid either. People generally only look at the top trending articles of any news site or they are looking for an article covering very specific topics.
