So today I want to talk about a truly underplayed summoner from Chaos Legion: Quix the Devious. Chaos Legion has been out for some time now yet Quix is still one of the least played summoners out there based on my experience. Now, a large part of that is because I play in Silver/Low Gold which means most players use ghost cards for a significant portion of their decks thus Quix not being available.

Card Overview:

Abilities: -1 Range, -1 Speed
Rarity: Legendary
Splinter: Dragon

So Quix at face value seems like he wouldn't be very popular because as of right now, magic comps are by far the most popular in Bronze, Silver, and Low Gold. That said, Sloan also gets a fair amount of play and Quix is in fact a direct counter to him.

Being a legendary summoner means Quix has much higher base line summoner levels thus making him a great option to supplement a deck that already has a few leveled cards throughout. At level 1 he can hit max Bronze limits which generally is more than enough to get you through Silver 1. Counter intuitive you would think but like I said, most players are free to play and working with the bare minimum to get into a league.

Even though -1 range isn't all that special, his -1 speed absolutely is. In all rulesets but reverse, speed is a major factor that is overlooked and it can be stacked. This means you can effectively give your entire team combat initiative and in some cases wipe your opponent before they can even fight.

If you look into his lore its almost like a book so we won't get into it but one key note is that Quix really like his lightning dragon and I've got to agree. If I could afford a lightning dragon its high speed matched with his -1 speed would be a game changer.

Okay so we talked about what makes him great now lets go through some live examples:

Keep in mind that I basically spammed Quix (9 back to back including depicted) here so my opponent absolutely knew what was coming from my end at least from a summoner perspective.

#1: vs lvl 6 Zintar

This is a matchup that I absolutely should have lost but won out due to my opponent not playing to his summoners strength and instead failling suspect to my range counter. My opponent was clearly just using whatever was cheap to play a leveled comp which generally will overpower a team despite the lack of cohesion.

In all reality he doesn't counter melee though speed can be a good secondary tank.

#2: vs lvl 2 Sloan

This fight I actually lost but went into expecting a win. Here I had a direct counter to his team, excluding using thorns against range. That said, my life deck is generally lacking and I ultimately couldn't survive his damage output. Had I used a creature with opportunity instead of my sniper I likely would have won.

#3: vs lvl 2 Kelya

Honestly, what was this guy thinking... This was a back to the basics match and he used 4 melee attackers and put his bait cards in the back... just wow.

#4: vs lvl 1 Obsidian

So here is a typical low mana obsidian comp which generally would wreck most teams. The major win factor here is my slow and blast. with stacked slow I was guaranteed my creatures would attack first each round AND snipe + blast would give me 2-3 dmg per turn which is huge in low mana fights.

#5: vs lvl 2 Sloan

Another Sloan to counter! This fight the -1 range again really kicked in and saved my 3 extra damage per round which turned out to be huge. This fight was also +2 armor which is why my comp has switched to a good portion of magic damage. That said, he was also prepared with Crystal Werewolf which has a -1 magic debuff. If you don't have one already, he is a great card to buy. I luckily wasn't impacted though as I'm on a budget and haven't really leveled my neutral magic cards thus they were not impacted. The meta makes them more expensive than they should be.
