It turns out that buying a Spellbook doesn't just mean enabling the game's money-earning function, it opens up a whole universe of possibilities, which can seem confusing and complicated to someone who has just arrived.

The first thing you need to know is that by purchasing the Spellbook, you also receive an HIVE Blockchain account, as well as a free HP (Hive Power) delegation so you can play and use the Blockchain in a basic and safe way.

But why do I need to know this? I just want to play!

The most basic and important answer is: Security!

Yes, this is a game in which you can collect assets that have financial value, such as game cards (NTFs), the DEC (token) and you need to know the bare minimum to keep your assets safe.

So let's go to the first topic of our Manual:

HIVE Keys

1 – Requesting your keys:

In the image below you can see the link on your game profile, where you can request your keys:

2 – Using and managing your keys:

Once you receive your keys, you need to save them in a safe place.

To keep your account secure, the most important is the Master Key, as it is used to derive all other keys and can recover your account.

For this reason, it is recommended that it be saved offline (for example on several USB sticks) and you can even write it down on paper if you wish.

Let's know what each of the keys is for:

Posting Key:

This key is used for logging in and playing Splinterlands, as well as logging into other HIVE Dapps such as Peakd.

With it you can post and comment on Peakd / Hive.blog, give upvotes, follow friends, claim rewards, etc.

The posting key is the safest way to access and use your account as it does not give you access to your wallet, thus maintaining the security of tokens.

Active Key:

The active key should only be used to confirm financial transactions or change certain user settings.

Never use your active key to login to post and vote daily, for this use the posting key.

It may be recommended to keep the active key (as well as the other most important keys) off line on a pendrive that will only be used at the appropriate times.

Owner Key:

The owner's key is one of the most important as it is necessary if you want to change all other keys.

Master password:

The master password is used to derive all keys. Having the master password allows you to recover all of an account's private keys.

3 – Hive Keychain:

It is a browser extension that can be used to gain even more secure and seamless access to websites, applications and services developed on the HIVE Blockchain and is very easy to use, in the same style as a Metamask.

With it configured you won't need to keep copying and pasting your keys with each transaction, increasing the level of ease and security.
