Is Splinterlands Dying?

Greetings Splinterfolk!

The purpose of this series of posts is for me to share my thoughts, more commonly known as unstructured ranting, about all things Splinterlands.

In case anyone is unaware, @peakmonsters has some really awesome dashboards which are "powered by Splinterlands" so I just assume that means they are based off of the Splinterlands API. You can view the dashboard here. I also write a weekly post about these stats which you can read here.

The main graph that I look at is called "Accounts" and shows the daily average active players in Splinterlands. As you can see below, there has been quite a significant decrease in active players. We started the year with around 200,000 active players and we are currently averaging around 65,000 active players. But, perhaps those 135,000 or so accounts were just bot farms and, thanks to the recent changes made by the Splinterlands team, it is no longer viable to have bot farms...

The next graph that I look at is all about the daily battles happening in Splinterlands. Obviously, the less active players there are, the less daily battles that occur. This could also be related to a decrease in bot farms as I mentioned above...

Lastly, I like to check how healthy the secondary market of Splinterlands is. We can see that there has been quite a significant decrease in the amount of cards being sold but not all that much of an average decrease in the volume (USD) of cards being sold. Maybe this is just because there are so many other Splinterlands-related assets that players can purchase...

So... The question is whether or not Splinterlands is dying. I believe that many people would say yes based on an initial glance of the above graphs, but that might not be completely accurate. As I pointed out above, it could be that many bot farms have been retired and Splinterlands numbers are becoming more accurate to its actual human player base. Obviously, we would see a decrease in all other stats when these bot farms are retired, but the question remains, is this just a retirement of bot farms or a slow exodus from Splinterlands?

And yes... The irony of including my Splinterlands referral program below is not lost on me ;)

While Splinterlands does have a referral program, it only benefits the referrer and not the referee. Therefore, it is up to us (the existing players) to create our own referral program to help new players enter into the game. I've outlined below how my custom referral program works:

  • Sign up for Splinterlands through my referral link here.
  • Once you buy the Summoner's Spellbook, I will receive 500 credits ($0.50) which I will use to buy DEC, cards, or both to help you start your Splinterlands journey.
  • All you need to do is comment below the IGN you used to sign up with. Once I have verified it, I will reach out to see what you would like to spend your $0.50 on and then send it over.
