The Weekly Explorer's Mark — week of 30 August 2026

The Weekly Explorer's Mark — week of 30 August 2026

Eight Marks were left on the ground last week.

It was a quiet week on the map because I spent it somewhere else — deeply investing time on the dev server.

This post is where the next seven days of Marks live.

The week, counted: 23–29 August

  • 8 Marks, from 3 accounts, on 8 different plots
  • across 5 regions, mentioning 8 landowners
  • every one of them landed on the 24th; the other six days were empty ground

Since launch, two weeks in

  • 89 Marks, from 9 accounts, on 80 different plots
  • across 48 of the 143 regions
  • mentioning 64 separate landowners

A deckbuilder, live: cards.praetoria.live

cards.praetoria.live went up on 25 August.

It is a second, separate service and it does one thing: it lets you build and save decks out
of the Splinterlands cards you actually own.

The whole catalogue, and your actual cards. Sign in and it reads your collection, including cards delegated to you, and shows every one at the level you really own it at — a level-1 copy
displays level-1 stats, level-1 abilities and level-1 art, not the max-level render with numbers you do not have. Normal formats show your best copy of a card. The Patron Pool format shows every physical copy separately, so if you hold three at three levels you can offer the spare level-1 and keep the strong one.

Filters that match the game you already play. Elements, dual-colour, Archons and Units, rarity, attack type, mana, foils, abilities, and all 42 races and more.

Six formats so far.

  • Praetoria PvP Warband — more on this later.
  • Praetoria PvE Deck — fifty monsters, no summoner, the roster you take into the world.
  • Praetoria Patron Pool — up to 100 specific physical cards a landowner offers to visitors.
  • Splinterlands Modern, building hands that work in CORE modern.
  • Theorycraft for building with any card you could want
  • Splinterlanes. Building decks which are valid in @splinterlanes.

The modularity of the deckbuilder is key. Toggling decks on and off for different games is the key central idea I used while building it. I made it extremely easy to access and use for a 3rd party developer. If another 3rd party Splinterlands game needs some way to build a deck for their, adding their format is just writing a file, not forking a site.

Sign-in is Keychain, and it is a Posting signature. The map and the cards site share one session, so logging out of one logs you out of the other. Praetoria never asks for an Active key, and there is no code here that could use one.

The game does not read your deck yet.

You can build a fifty-card PvE deck today, field it, save it, and nothing in the world will consult it. The deckbuilder is finished; the thing it feeds is not. On the live server the PvE tables do not exist and the feature switches are all dark — same as last week, deliberately.

What is being built against it, in dev, is the reason the deck has to exist first: each card carries its own wounds out of an encounter. Not the hand — the card. Health and armour, tracked per card, mending an hour at a time, and a card that dies is benched for six hours and comes back whole. You choose which cards to spend before each fight. Winning is not the goal; getting further before you
run out of healthy cards is.

Also being built, and also not switched on

Regions will connect in eight directions, not four. Four directions leave some regions with a single exit and the map full of dead ends. The new graph is built from the official Splinterlands coordinates rather than guessed at — up to eight edges a region, the four you know plus the diagonals — and I ruled on a handful of disputed edges by hand rather than letting the maths decide. Exits are not points you have to find: each is a marked band along the region's perimeter you walk to and step out of. Opposite bands are exact mirrors, so walking back puts you on the plot you left. Edges toward land that was never sold are barricaded, not quietly missing.

Inside a region, nothing changes — still north, east, south and west on a square grid. None of it is switched on: it killed the renderer on its first full walk-through, that is fixed, and it stays in dev until I have walked it myself.

What an Explorer's Mark is

For anyone arriving this week.

Walk to a plot. Write a few lines. Sign it with Keychain.

That message becomes a reply to this post — a real Hive comment, from your own account, in your own name. It records which plot you left it on, and it mentions whoever owns that land, so the owner hears about it wherever they already read Hive. Then the next person who walks to that plot reads what you wrote.

No in-game mail, no inbox, no database only I can read. The message is on chain the moment you write it, and it belongs to you. If this project vanished tomorrow, every Mark ever left would still be here — signed, readable, theirs.

New to Hive? The first one is on us

A Hive comment costs resource credits, and a new account holds enough for about one. So when you go to write and your account cannot afford it,@landsofpraetoria lends you the credits. It is free, it takes effect immediately, and it is returned when you no longer need it. You should not
notice it happened.

What to write

Anything. Suggestions from someone who has now walked a lot of it:

  • A note for the landowner. Somebody paid real money for that ground.
  • What you were doing there. Looking for a Castle? Lost?
  • Something in character. #roleplaypraetoria exists for exactly this and is
entirely optional — nothing in the game requires it.
  • A landmark. "Third Keep from the eastern edge, the one with nine workers."
  • Pick an owner, type their name into the search bar to light up every plot of
theirs you have uncovered, and go leave a Mark on the strangest one.

Where to start

praetoria.live. Browse to the map, sign in with Keychain, and if you own land it will already be marked as yours. It works on a phone, through the Keychain app.

The deckbuilder is cards.praetoria.live, same sign-in, and you can go and build something there today even though the world will not read it yet.

Never seen the project? Start with the introduction — what it is, what is built, and where it is going. The first two weeks of Marks are here and here, and they stay readable forever.

Praetoria is a @splinterlands world. This project is independent, built by @amphlux — a dedicated player, but not affiliated with core Splinterlands. All art asset credit goes to the Splinterlands art team. It holds no key that can move your cards or spend your DEC.
