The economy and rewards system in Moon Karts is thoughtfully built to reward skill, time, and strategic investment—ensuring that the most dedicated racers reap the greatest benefits. At the core, FOUR main pillars determine earnings: player skill, time spent in-game, NFT quality, and staking of governance tokens (COLONY). Excelling in only one can yield results—but using all four in tandem unlocks maximum rewards.
Reward Distribution: How It Works
Every day, a fixed pool of COLONY tokens is released and distributed across several reward categories:
Orbitals Pool (40%): Earned by collecting Orbitals on-track and finishing races with them.
Ranking Pool (25%): Allocated based on leaderboard standings via skill-based ELO.
COLONY drops on-track (10%): Pick these up and hold them through to the finish.
Referral Pool (5%): Rewards players who bring new, paying users into the game.
Seasonal Pool (20%): Accumulates over a 10-day cycle, paying out to top performers.
Racing Rewards: Paths to Earnings
Moon Karts offers three primary ways to earn through racing:
COLONY Tokens Found on Track – Grab them during a race and finish victorious to claim your haul.
Leaderboard-Based Earnings – Perform well over daily and seasonal leaderboards, leveraging your ELO rank.
Orbitals Collection – These act like in-game points, boosted by high-quality karts, drivers, and parts, and tied to their own leaderboard system.
Incentives Beyond Racing: Referrals & Moon Domes
A strong referral system complements racing. Share your unique invite link; once a referred player spends $20 or more, you earn referral points. Earnings from these referrals come from the 5% Referral Pool, distributed proportionally to points earned each day. Daily caps prevent overrewards (max 0.5% of total pool or 10% of Referral Pool), and any unused tokens roll over.
Looking ahead, Moon Karts introduces Moon Domes—player-owned racetracks. These will passively generate 10% of race rewards held on them back to the Dome owner, adding a compelling layer of passive income potential.
