Complete Guide to Operating SPS Validator Nodes in Splinterlands 2026 (Parte 1) [ES-EN]

Cover created in Canva

In many of my previous posts where I explain how to make money in the game, one of the methods that always comes up is using “Validator Nodes” to earn passive income—simply by running a node. However, this should be approached with caution, because it does require some work—though most users may not realize this, as they might think it’s not for them or that it’s too complex. so in this post, we’ll explore what you actually need to do to get a “Validator Node” up and running in Splinterlands.
So, in this guide—which I call comprehensive, though I might miss something—I’ll try to cover absolutely everything about nodes and licenses, a topic that’s not often discussed in the community anymore, so for anyone who wants to learn about this, it’s the perfect opportunity to do so. Although, as I said, I might overlook several aspects of how they work or some other details that I didn’t cover in my research, in any case, I hope this is very helpful for those who want to get into this and start earning rewards in SPS and VOUCHERS.
So, if you want to know everything about “Validator Nodes,” I hope you’ll read this post all the way through. I’ll be covering everything from the basics to the most advanced topics, so this post might get a bit long, and I might end up splitting it into two parts—but I’ll let you know at the end:

What Are the Initial Requirements? + LICENSE Token

Let’s start with the basics: what is the LICENSE token? It’s actually very simple—most of you probably already know what it is. Basically, it’s an NFT-type token, and its utility lies in the fact that it grants you the right to run a validator node—which is the software we need for this. We’d do this on what’s called the SPS Chain, which is the official network for SPS and the Splinterlands project. When we run this, we can receive daily rewards for our work in securing and/or decentralizing the network.
Now, when this was launched—since it’s an asset that was, of course, going to be traded (and in fact is still traded)—it was released with certain characteristics, including a supply of only 60,000 LICENSES, with a price per tier that increases as those tiers sell out. but currently, in the tier where the price per LICENSE is around $5,000 in SPS—which is insane—but, of course, this isn’t the only way to acquire it, so below I’ll explain where and at what price you can get it as of the time of writing this post.
As I said, LICENSES or the LICENSE token can still be purchased from the game's official store, but I really don't recommend it at all, so instead, you can purchase it through the following channels:
By Hive Engine or TribalDex: Una One option is Hive Engine, where the price of the LICENSE token is $187.47 as of the time of this post; the downside is that no one is selling right now. The same goes for TribalDex, which is why I’ve included two links that will take you directly to that marketplace.
Trading Hall Offers: One of the new ways you can acquire a LICENSE token is through the new Trading Hall tool I explained a couple of posts ago, where you can send an offer to another user by sending something of equal or greater value in exchange for a LICENSE token.

Technical Requirements for Running a Validator Node

Now, I'm not making this up—these are the specifications recommended by the Splinterlands team itself to ensure that all transactions are processed. Remember that the idea is for this NODE to operate 24/7, since it is protecting and sustaining the SPS network.
| Component | Recommended Technical Requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating System | Linux (Ubuntu Server 20.04/22.04 LTS) with Docker [27]. On Windows, WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) and Docker Desktop are required [27]. |
| Processor (CPU) | High-performance multi-core CPU (4+ dedicated cores) [27]. |
| RAM | Minimum 8 GB of RAM (16 GB recommended for high stability) [27]. |
| Storage | Ultra-fast NVMe SSD (minimum 100 GB) for latency-free block processing [27]. |
| Network | Stable broadband connection with static IP/VPS and near 100% uptime [27, 372]. |

How to Activate a Validator Node? - Detailed Process

In this section, I’ll explain step by step how to set up and/or activate an SPS VALIDATOR NODE. Of course, I’m not technical at all, in fact, there’s a way to follow this step-by-step guide without needing help from a third party. But for those who want to take the plunge and give it a try, you’ll need to download the official DAO GitHub repository, which contains the ideal file structure for running it on a dedicated server. That’s why the previous section listed the requirements. However, today I won’t explain that method—which you can use with the help of AI even without technical experience—but let’s move on to the process for mere mortals who don’t want to know anything about that:

Go to Peakmonster:
When you click on that link, all you have to do is follow the steps shown there, which are actually quite simple. That’s why I don’t want to repeat them—it’s better to look at the image so that when you click on the link, you’ll understand everything you need to do and where to go. So, here’s the image:

By following these steps, you can activate your nodes using the LICENSE token you receive. It’s quite simple, and you can get started right away—it’s literally just a matter of following these steps if you don’t want to make things too complicated. However, as I mentioned, you can also choose the more complicated option, which is to set up your own node on a server—something that will likely involve a cost, especially to keep the node running every day. So, this is the easiest way to do it.

Final Thoughts

As I mentioned at the beginning, I was planning to split this information into two separate posts so as not to overwhelm you with too much information at once, although I think everything is very simple and easy to understand so far, since I’ve cleared up the technical hurdle regarding activating a NODE. On the other hand, there’s the topic of rewards and how they work, but in the next post in this series, I’ll share that information so you’ll know how it all works.
So, if you found this pretty simple and want to give it a try—I actually think it’s really worth it—what do you guys think? I look forward to hearing from you.
See you on the "Battlefield"

Ir a Peakmonster:
