Okay, something I’ve wanted to do for a long time is analyze the win rate in each league in the game. Previously, there were certain third-party platforms that provided me with that information, but lately they’ve all suddenly stopped working. While this isn’t a big deal, it is unfortunate because the reality is that Splinterlands still has a long way to go—of that I’m certain— But, as I said, it’s not a big deal, because we have the Splinterlands APIs and can access real-time data to view this kind of information.

I’m an AI enthusiast; I believe it can make our lives easier in many ways, and researching, analyzing, and extracting information from these APIs is one of them. Through this process, we can uncover valuable insights that help us analyze the current metagame—which cards are trending, which ones have the highest win rates, and so on. So, today I want to focus on the “Bronze League” first, but we’ll take it step by step because there’s really a lot of information. So, don’t be surprised if I split this post—and the ones that follow—into several parts; since I don’t want to bore you or make them too long, I’ll break them up this way.

Even so, these will be high-quality posts—posts that are sure to help you on your journey through the game. Learning about the cards that are making waves and that are undoubtedly dominating the current meta and leagues is something we all want to know. So, now that you know what’s coming, let’s dive right in.

Why are we analyzing the Bronze League, and what makes it relevant?

image.png

Many may wonder why I included the “Bronze League” in this discussion, since it’s essentially the first tier—setting aside “Novice,” which is more of a learning rank where you familiarize yourself with all the game mechanics—and where the game’s real competitive environment begins. Well, the answer is simple: in the “Bronze League,” levels are already introduced, and you can also play with modifiers or random rules that completely change the way we think and make decisions to win a battle.

Now, something you need to understand is that each league has a corresponding card tier. Although in normal competitive play in the “Modern” and “Wild” formats you can play with cards from any tier, the reality is that sticking to the card tiers appropriate for each league is the best way to learn the impact cards can have depending on which tier you’re able to play in—though “Bronze” is special because it’s the very first one.

To help you understand how it works, the leagues—and in this league specifically—the cards are strictly tied to the level and rarity of your summoners (Archon). To give you a general idea of what I'm talking about, here's how it's represented:

  • Common Cards (Level 3)
  • Rare Cards (Level 2)
  • Epic Cards (Level 2)
  • Legendary Cards (Level 1)

How is the win rate determined, and how is it calculated?

Although this may not seem important, the reality is that it is, and knowing this metric can give you an undeniable advantage on the battlefield—it means knowing which cards are performing well in each tier, in this case the “Bronze” tier. I won’t go into too much detail here, but I’ll go over it briefly so you can see what determines that “Win Rate”—the factors, that is:

  • Adaptability: A concept that very few people are familiar with, and even if they are, they don’t use it—this is especially true in lower tiers like “Bronze.” To give you a little context, the system assigns a random mana cost to each battle. The idea here is to adapt by using the best possible cards, rather than just playing the strongest cards that come to mind.

  • Opponent Analysis: This is very important—we can’t play carelessly. We need to look at the opponent’s most recent battles and try to find a pattern, something repetitive that they always do, so we can anticipate it.

  • Understanding the Rules/Modifiers: I think this is the most important thing above all else. If you don’t know the rules, you won’t be able to adapt, let alone look for the opponent’s pattern, since the rules are derived from the abilities.

What is the average win rate in Bronze and its tiers?

As I mentioned earlier, Bronze is practically the first league where we have competitive play, so there’s already a lot of rivalry here and some really good opponents who play exclusively in these leagues. This means that, even though it’s a lower league, it’s not on the same level as the rest—and that depends on other factors that aren’t relevant here—but the point is that we shouldn’t underestimate it.

That said, the average win rate for this league is usually between 45% and 52%, thanks to the system’s effort to match users with players of a similar rank or rating. However, this changes when we play different game modes, such as:

image.png

Different Game Modes, Different Win Rates

  • Ranked Battles: In either of the two main formats, a player with a well-balanced basic/budget deck—and, of course, who knows how to play all their cards—could have a win rate ranging from 55% to 60%, which is great because you’d earn more SPS and GLINT.

  • Tournaments: Here, everything can change, since the skill level of the players is significantly higher. So, if you’re a casual player, your win rate might be around 40%—or even lower if you’re brand new. However, if you’re experienced and have already memorized strategies for this league, your win rate can exceed 70%.

  • Brawls: Here, battles are divided into brawls, but it’s almost the same as in “Tournaments,” because in guilds—depending on the “Tier” you’re playing in—the win rate can range from 40% to 60%, though it’s often lower than that. There are some really bad streaks, and that’s just part of the game, but here, you need players who really know the game.

Final Thoughts

So, with that in mind, dominating the battlefield in the “Bronze League” requires several key elements that every player should know. However, achieving this takes discipline—though it doesn’t end there. Still, this is a good post to help you start understanding what it means to play Splinterlands seriously, with a focus on a specific league.

Although there's more to it, don't get discouraged—in the next post, I'll go into more detail and we'll move on to more interesting topics.

See you on the "Battlefield"
