Why Could Land Plots Be the Economic Future of Splinterlands? (The Beginnings, Part 2) [ES-EN]

In the first part of this post, I discussed the most basic aspects related to land plots, detailing their current state and what the future holds, however, I left out several key points explaining why land might be the game’s economic future—and these are truly important topics that players need to understand. It can indeed be a bit overwhelming at first, but it all comes down to consistency and discipline in learning how to properly manage one or more plots of land. This just requires a step-by-step approach, but I’ll explain that in future posts. I should clarify, though, that even though I know a lot about plots, I don’t actually have one up and running yet—but I’m thinking about getting one.
In any case, and so as not to stray from the topic, in this post I’ll explain several other details about “Land Plots” related to scarcity and demand—perhaps comparing them to other sources of income and offering some medium- and long-term projections to see what might happen—which will complement the information from the first post. With all of this and the conclusions I’ll draw at the end, we might understand why “Land Plots” could be the economic future of this game, since the more time passes, the more they complement the ranked game—and ultimately, even though it’s happening indirectly right now, everything is connected.
But without further ado on this topic, let’s move on to the explanation and the missing details about the lands—and, of course, the reasons behind the future exponential economic growth of this game mode—which you’ll basically come to understand as this post unfolds.

Scarcity and Demand for “Plots of Land”

For a financial asset to function—such as those we’re accustomed to in cryptocurrencies and also in Splinterlands—it must have one key characteristic: scarcity. When an asset is scarce, it means it’s much harder to obtain, so in theory, demand for it skyrockets and drives up its price. If we put that into perspective and consider that there are only 150,000 plots, it means we have a fairly valuable asset, but one that is determined by several other factors, which are:

Valuation of "Land PLOTS"
Rarities and Geography: One factor that significantly determines a plot’s value is the type of terrain on which it’s located—and, of course, its rarity, since plots are like cards. For example, there are specific terrain types (such as Hills and Mountains) that work very well with certain types of resources, and it’s naturally easier to extract those resources on that type of terrain. In addition, these plots also feature unique structures, such as “Castles and Fortresses,” which provide production bonuses but also grant the right to collect taxes from that region—not to mention, as I mentioned earlier, the plot’s rarity level: common, rare, epic, legendary, or mythical.
Asset Staking: For a plot of land to produce to its full potential, we must stake cards along with other assets—specifically DEC—which work in conjunction with the cards and serve as a sort of energy core, or “Runi,” to power the work on that plot. All of this creates upward pressure on these assets due to this preventive lock-up, since for the system to work, you absolutely must stake them—which gives them real utility rather than just speculative value, as many people think.
NOTE: If we take all of this into account, we can see that the plots of land themselves have endless uses and can easily become a resource-producing machine if we do it the right way. Therefore, you can easily build an economic empire because every resource on these plots has value—and there’s already a tremendous amount of it— since we can implement many strategies with them—whether to continue expanding our land holdings or, alternatively, to build a stronger deck, etc.

Land and Other Sources of Income + Economic Projections

The purpose of this section is to show what the “Land Plots” mechanics have to offer by comparing them to other game modes. So what I want you to see is why you might prefer to work in “Praetoria” rather than in any of the other existing modes:

Positive Aspects of Working with the "Lands"
Passivity: We all like to invest and earn rewards passively without having to do much, and land plots offer us exactly that. While the main game requires time and daily effort to play, land plots do not. Once you’ve set them up, they produce the resources needed to keep everything running, so when everything is ready, all you have to do is stop by and claim your rewards.
Scalability: When we’re working on land plots, we need resources like “Grain and Iron,” which are essential for building the infrastructure everyone needs to progress on the plots. This creates a dependency on these assets, which in turn allows you to scale up; However, if we compare this to, for example, “Card Rental,” we need to understand the META and how it works, because renting just any card won’t work—here, the opposite is true: you’ll always need the resources, which is why it’s scalable.
Diversification: While Splinterlands is a fast-paced, frenetic, semi-automatic card battle game, the reality is that the lands serve as a store of value that generates resources and SPS. So, you don’t need any in-game skills here—you just need to learn how to manage these plots, and with that, you can play and diversify.
Economic Projections (Scenarios for 2026–2027)
There are two types of scenarios that I can see right now, and they are as follows:
The Optimist: With the official launch of Phase 3, when we finally have spells ready and available for crafting, demand for all the resources and elements that make up the lands will surely skyrocket. Demand will outstrip supply, and the ecosystem will have plenty of liquidity, which is sure to increase your ROI—and may even easily exceed the APR of the game’s passive SPS staking.
The Conservative: The current system maintains a steady stream of revenue, allowing landowners to gradually recoup their investment over time while accumulating assets through giveaways and initiatives. In addition, some cards from “Visions of Verico” now offer the ability to earn GLINTS, which can be used to try to complete the “Conclave Arcana” reward deck more quickly.

Final Thoughts

With all this, we can see that Splinterlands’ economic future is deeply rooted in what happens on the “Land Plots.” Although it’s still a work in progress, much of the work has already been done; the only thing left is Phase 3, which involves creating spells and a few other details. Of course, all of this will bring more resources and features that will be added to the lands.
In any case, it's clear that Splinterlands has a bright future. If you have any questions, leave your comments on this post and I'll be happy to help.
See you on the "Battlefield"
