Why is the SPS the heart of Splinterlands? [ES-EN]

Many new users don’t realize how important SPS is to the ecosystem; in fact, they think the whole game is just about the cards or focus solely on the deck—which, don’t get me wrong, is also very important because without it we couldn’t earn rewards, since those who want to dedicate themselves to playing and becoming the best need it— but beyond that, the heart of Splinterlands—and what attracts players’ attention in the medium and long term—is the SPS, and there are several reasons for this that I’ll be explaining in this post.
As I said, managing the game’s economy—which involves SPS and other tokens—is just as important as the cards themselves. But when we talk about SPS, which isn’t just the current reward token but also the “Governance” token, that’s why it’s not just any token. When players realize it’s the reward token, what do you think will go through their minds? It’s simple: “I have to earn it so I can sell it.” That’s why, in this context, we need “demand” to exceed “supply,” and to achieve this, we need “ATTENTION”—because without it, it would be impossible to attract new players and potential investors.
That’s why today I’ll explain why demand and the utility of SPS are what underpin the foundations—those pillars of Splinterlands that continue to function to this day. Another important point is how presales act as economic drivers and how SPS can serve as a utility here to capitalize on that and drive demand.

What is SPS, and why is it “relevant”?

Before we get into the details, we need to know what SPS is, but I won’t spend too much time on this since I’ve actually already mentioned it at the beginning of the introduction and in other past posts. However, I’m doing this because if you’re a new player just getting started, this information is for you. So, what is SPS? Basically, it’s the game’s “Governance and Rewards” token. That means the more SPS you have, the more voting power and decision-making authority you’ll have regarding DAO proposals, and the more rewards you’ll earn—because you earn SPS for every battle you win.
Even so, if it's not clear to you, the SPS has three main functions, which are:

3 Main Functions of the SPS
Staking: When you have SPS and you buy and lock it up, you can earn rewards at a set APR passively, which also gives you voting rights on DAO proposals so you can participate in “governance.”
Reward Multipliers: Designed to reward players fairly and provide them with significant utility, as well as to earn SPS and GLINT rewards in ranked battles. For this to affect your account, the amount of SPS must be proportional to the league you’re playing in, but don’t worry too much about that—just focus on earning as much SPS as possible.
Voucher Generation: SPS staking is the main source through which we earn VOUCHERS for staking, so we not only receive SPS but also this token, which has value in the “Hive Engine.”
NOTE: While these are the most basic features of SPS, the truth is that, for example, to play in tournaments, you also need to have SPS. So, if you want to earn rewards in “Tournaments,” you’ll need it too—and that’s great, but the reality is that we can get even more out of this. First, though, I need you to understand how “Utility and Demand” are the most important factors for SPS in order to attract attention and generate significant value for the token.

The Importance of Demand and Utility

For those who don’t understand why the SPS is the heart of Splinterlands and why demand and utility play a key role in its success, we need to realize that in any type of economy—digital or otherwise—the truth is that this applies to everything: the value of an asset depends solely and exclusively on its practical utility. This means that it is needed to perform one or more actions that help players progress in the game—in our case, the SPS in Splinterlands. That is why, to ensure profitability in the medium and long term, the idea is to create mechanisms where the SPS is necessary for progressing in the game.
However, another important factor is how demand is created, and this depends on whether or not players can see tangible benefits that practically compel them to keep using the game. This is important for the following reason:

Circulating Supply: For example, if we stake our SPS, the circulating supply decreases, which helps stabilize the ecosystem and makes it much healthier for everyone.
Creating Utility and Demand Together: The next thing we should consider as a community is creating utility to attract players to purchase SPS, since doing so would allow them to reap benefits—whether directly in-game or through future rewards.
NOTE: These two factors can draw ATTENTION to the SPS. If that attention translates into significant capital flowing into the token, it will cause both its liquidity and market capitalization to rise, and, therefore, "Supply" will not be able to outpace Demand, which in turn would mean higher rewards for players—whether you’re someone who plays the game or someone who stakes to earn passive income.

Final Thoughts

All of this is important if you're new to the game, because it's not all about the cards—and although, as I mentioned, they are really important, they aren't everything. A large part of the ecosystem—I'd say practically all of it—revolves around the SPS, which is why I want every new player entering the ecosystem to have this information at their fingertips.
