INTRODUCTION
Hi guys, it's me once again for another post on the Splinterlands SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge. This time, our featured card is a bit uncommon, at least for me. I haven't really used this card much except for a few occasions and I will tell more about it later in this post.

While many of the players are scrambling to adapt to the newest updates, I am just here in my little corner trying to take the introduced changes bit by bit and hopefully, I will be able to adjust my gameplay too.

THE CARD

Hill Giant is a common water monster card and is part of a Chaos Legion Edition. It has a cost of three (3) mana and has a melee attack of one (1). At level six (6), it will acquire the STUN ability. Its maxed-out level of 10 increases its speed to three (3), its attack to three (3) and its health to 9 from the original six (6) in Level 1. For this post, I have used a Level 1 card.

Pros and Cons

Hill Giant can be a useful and a useless card at the same time. The main obstacle in using Hill Giant I think is that it is melee-attack monster. Don't get me wrong, but most of the time, players already have a go-to monster when it comes to melee-attack monster, being their tank card. For instance, the popular ones are Living Lava for the Fire Splinter and Unicorn Mustang for the Earth Splinter. A more popular card is Cursed Windeku for the Death Splinter, especially with its THORN ability. Having said that, cards like Hill Giant will fit in a more specific gameplay, rather than a player's usual game.

Thus, this card will be useful in rulesets where cards like Unicorn Mustang won't be able to be used. A good example of that is the LITTLE LEAGUE ruleset. This card is a tank monster especially for its health. Six health is quite extraordinary for a card with a mana cost of three. Talking about its huge health, if you have good team of small-cost cards, this is also good in low mana battles with the EQUALIZER ruleset. Imagine beefing up your smaller creatures to having six health. In certain occasions, there are battles with both EQUALIZER and LITTLE LEAGUE rulesets at the same time. That is definitely a great opportunity to roll out Hill Giant and let it boost the rest of the team.

General Strategy

When I saw my opponent's previous teams, it seems that he/she/they is on a DRAGON focus quest, having used the dragon splinter in its past battles. Then I saw the rulesets for the game --- REVERSE SPEED and LITTLE LEAGUE. This is a perfect opportunity to use HILL GIANT given its low mana cost and at the same time, it's speed is just one (1), suiting better to the rulesets.

Another thing, my strategy is to use magic-attack cards, so I can directly damage the opponent's health. Given that it is a LITTLE LEAGUE battle, I won't expect the health of the opponent's cards to be that high. This strategy led me to the lineup which I will present below.

The Lineup

Summoner - Obsidian

  • Slot 1 - Hill Giant
  • Slot 2 - Djinn Bilka
  • Slot 3 - Khmer Princess
  • Slot 4 - Spirit Shaman
  • Slot 5 - Wood Nymph
  • Slot 6 - Elven Mystic

Explanation of the lineup

As I've said, I would put magic attack creatures in my team. To beef up my offense, I put in Obsidian as my summoner to increase my team's magic attack.

Obviously, I used Hill Giant as my tank monster because of its health. Having six (6) health hopefully can make Hill Giant survive the first two rounds at least.

The next in my team is Djinn Bilka, its three (3) mana cost is cheap to add in my team and its CAMOUFLAGE ability is useful to avoid those monster with SNIPE ability.

If you're using a magic attack team in the Earth Splinter and mana is limited, Khmer Princess is a must to add. At two (2) mana cost, this is a great addition to the team.

The next card I used is Spirit Shaman. I chose this over other magic-attack cards because of its DIVINE SHIELD ability. Again, at least that ability will void any early attack by the opponent's cards which may have abilities that target the back monsters like SNIPE and OPPORTUNITY.

I am on Wild Format and it's good to be able to use Wood Nymph in my team. I hope that it will survive the first round so it will be able to heal Hill Giant for any damage that it may acquire.

Last in my list is Elven Mystic. This neutral card is good because you can insert it in any splinter type and it fits perfectly to my desired team's theme.

That's it folks, let's see how it panned out.
