Splinterviews: bragurr

Hello everyone and welcome back to Splinterviews! The series where we take a closer look the users that inhabit the Splinterlands and keep things alive in the Splinterlands Discord Server.

Today we're shining a spotlight on @bragurr.

A Moderator and Maverick at the Discord, bragurr is known for competitive nature and efficient moderating style. We can always count on him to keep things in order.

However, heonly takes measures when necessary and makes an effort to be fair.

He stops at nothing to improve everyone's quality of life in the discord, not even at the English language! Here we can see him helping a new player in French:

Talk about a complete moderator!

His excellent management of his impressive card collection makes bragurr a prime example of a play-to-earn, as well as, he likes to say, a pay-to-earn user.

When you go to the discord, be sure to look out for this guy:

Favorite card:

Kron the Undying: My favorite card has to be Kron! I’ve used him since almost the beginning and he’s gotten me through a lot of tough battles. Earth is one of my favorite splinters and Kron makes it all the more better!

Now onto the interview:

bragurr, when did you first enter the splinterlands?

I entered Splinterlands back in early February 2021 and played for about a month before finding the discord.

Do you remember what the DEC price was when you first started?

DEC price bounced from .0008 to .0012 which was relatively normal considering the soft peg. DEC price back then really wasn’t like how it is now. It used to be incredibly stable but now it has me sweating my decisions haha

Talk about a good time to get in. Have your interests been more about finding good deals on cards to invest in, or more on the financial side of things, like DEC/SPS?

In the beginning it was all about gameplay. What cards could I use to win more battles etc. But with the rental markets recently the game for me has become more about what cards other people are looking to use and what cards rent for more. My gold collection has definitely grown. DEC has never been something I hold for a long time, I use it mostly as a currency to buy things with. But I am definitely stocking up on SPS in bulk. Literally buying as much of it as I can.

It's nice that there are different ways to invest into. That's one of the great things about Splinterlands. I mentioned before already, you're known as being quite competitive, which aspects of this do you engage in other than Ranked and Guid?

Tournaments hold a lot of value, my alpha collection has never been big but it’s definitely been worth it to rent some alphas to join those tournaments! The gold tournaments throw out a ton of SPS too now!

Must really be worth it if you know what you're doing. I want to ask... do you think that a factor in the success of Splinterlands thus far lies in its being a TCG?

TCG’s definitely gave Splinterlands an edge. It’s a lot easier to design a TCG than a typical 1st person shooter which gives devs more time to develop economies and focus on the needs of the players. I’d say the #1 factor that contributed to Splinterlands success so far is Aggroed, Yabapmatt, and the rest of the team.

Apart from them, is there anybody else you'd ilke to give a shout out to?

Shoutout to all the tech-support gurus in the discord! Okean123, Gandalf-The-Grey (Rex), Mèo Kon Lon Ton, cicisaja, kira1995, stealthtrader, simplymike, cornaviral, and anyone else I missed who’s online helping to make the discord a lovely place!

@okean123 @gandalf-the-grey @Meokonlonton @cicisaja @kira1995 @stealthtrader @simplymike @cornavirus

How much time would you say you spend in Splinterlands on average per day?

Too much. But even then it’s never enough haha. Even if I’m not playing the game constantly, I am thinking about the economy throughout the day and figuring out my next move here. There’s a lot going on and not enough brain to keep up!

I might just have that same problem. Tell me bragurr, is there anything people might be surprised to know about you?

This is my first TCG I’ve played! Well, at least played seriously. I had an ex that played Magic: The Gathering religiously but beyond that I had no experience with them.

Most overrated card?

Probably Yodin Zaku. It’s very true that he destroys tons of teams out there but he’s fairly easy to counter if you can guess he’s coming up in your enemy’s team.

I did NOT see that coming, It does give me something to think about, though.
Do you have any tips for new players get out of Bronze 3?

Play more! Getting out of bronze is a lot simpler than people think, just continuously build your decks with dec rewards and watch top rated players play and see what cards they use, where to place them etc. There’s also tons of streamers to watch and learn from! The more experience you get the better you will play!

Who do you consider to be your friends or consider yourself to be friendly within the discords and/or staff?

I think I’m pretty friendly with most everyone but as far as team members go, I have done some stuff to help out Waffles Kitty with Dygycon.

@waffleskitty

What is DYGYCON and what can you do there?

You can play games, do scavenger hunts, win prizes, and learn about tons of upcoming blockchain projects! Make sure to attend the upcoming one, 11/19/21 to 11/21/21!

Here is the link to more information: DYGYCON

Highlight Match: BRAGURR vs MACHV

image.png

Look at all those Gold Foil Cards!
Today's highlight match comes directly from a GUILD BRAWL between IG4 and Gladiators! Both competitors chose the formidable Dragon summoner, Camila Sungazer for this match. Even though Machv's Cave Slug really put pressure on bragurr's backline, it was his choice to use a combination of melee and ranged that ultimately gave bragurr this victory.

That's all for today's Splinterview, folks. If you have any questions for @bragurr, feel free to ask in the comments below and he might just find the time to reply. As for me, if there's someone else you'd like to find out more about, do suggest them in the comments!

Phew... Splinterlands still feels odd to me. When will I ever be able to understand this game? 😌

Wonderful interview, sincerely, I tried understanding but, mehn, I got lost in the lines, and I am laughing at myself right now. 😂

Looking forward for more interviews though, maybe, one of them will strike a cord with me, jumping me into the game, who knows?
