Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Battle Challenge! (Earthquake)

I love the idea that the Weekly Battle Challenge changed instead of featuring a monster to represent a ruleset. It is so good to do something different than usual and I hope they will continually do this in the future. The best way would be to mix these challenges, so every week would be more interesting.

This week we need to show a ruleset, which is the Earthquake and the way I used it to my (dis)advantage in the Battle I played. 😇

My only problem with this new system is that it is very difficult to do battles with the specific ruleset featured for the week challenge, because it is random what you are going to get and even if you have that ruleset you need to win it somehow, which is not always easy. Luckily the Splinterlands curators are quite forgiving and I can write about any other ruleset if there is none in my disposal at hand! 😇

All non-flying units take 2 physical damage at the end of every turn.image.png
Snared units are considered non-flying. Since the damage given is physical, it can be reduced to 1 if the unit has the shield ability.

Using monsters with Flying or Heal is the trick for this ruleset, but if you are unable to choose such monsters, use monsters that have high Health and high damage. Don't keep heal units up front. Shield has a very important ability, because it will halves the Earthquake damage as well. Using Brighton Bloom as summoner can help a lot in this ruleset. Keep monsters with Flying in last positions when Earthquake has done enough damage to both sides. 😉

Most of the times I try to pick the Dragon Splinter with a high mana cap, because they have a lot of Flying and strong monsters, but this time I wanted to try something new and I tried to counter their high mana and Ranged monsters with the Death Splinter who is very good de-buffing the enemy monsters. 😁

RulesetDescription
Armored UpAll Monsters have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat.
EarthquakeNon-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round.
Explosive WeaponryAll Monsters have the Blast ability.

The mana cap was 47 for my next battle and all the Splinters were available to play. It was a wide range of strategy that I could choose from, but tried to think with my opponent mind and I was thinking that he would bring high mana flyers, so I needed to counter them. 😊

Even though the Death Splinter doesn't have that much Flying monsters that the other Splinters their power comes from pure damage and de-buffing the enemy monsters.

My lineup and the decision behind it!

Summoner
Thaddius Brood

image.png

Thaddius Brood is my main Summoner when it comes to playing with the Death Splinter, because he will reduce the Magic attack and Health of all the enemy monsters by one, which is quite amazing for only 4 mana. The Magic attack type is the strongest attack form in this game, so it is very useful to remove one from my opponent. 😁

Main Tank
Harklaw

image.png

The Harklaw is a very good tank and quite cheap to buy from the market, because he was a Reward card once from the loot chests, which means that is more than enough of them in the market. 😁

His cost is 8 mana, which is normal for a tank, who has the Shield ability, but this little devil also has the Demoralize de-buff ability, which will reduce all the enemy Melee attack creatures damage by one. In the Earthquake ruleset he is quite effective, because for some reason he can not fly, but he will reduce the Earthquake damage to one for himself. 😇

Off-Tank and Giant Killer
Djinn Muirat

image.png

The Djinn Muirat is the perfect monster against any Magic attack team, because he has the Magic Reflect ability, which works like the Thorn ability damaging back some magic damage to the attackers. The Giant Killer makes this bad boy even stronger against monsters costing more than 10 mana, because the Muirat will do double damage against them and that damage will be Magic as well, which is very difficult to mitigate. 🤣

Third Off-Tank and De-buffer
Queen of Crows

image.png

The Queen of Crows is an amazing off-tank in any high mana cap battle. She has a lot of Health and the Close Range ability, so she will be able to attack from the first position as well even though she is a Ranger. The Headwinds ability will reduce the enemy Ranged attack monsters damage by one, which will help a lot against a Ranged attack teams. 😎

Cheap Damage Dealer
Weirding Warrior

image.png

The Weirding Warrior is quite weak on its own, but he is a low cost damage dealer, so do not expect more than that. Costing only two mana and having two damage, with the Shatter ability is amazing as long as my opponent doesn't have any creature with Snipe or Sneak ability to kill this monster from my backline either with direct damage or with the Blast. 😊

Damage Dealer and Speed Buffer
Lira the Dark

image.png

Lira the Dark is a very strong Ranged attack monster, who has a lot of Speed on its own, but she will even increase that with the Swiftness ability to all of her friendly monsters by one. The Opportunity ability is a perfect and deadly combination with the Explosive Weaponry ruleset, because she will always target the lowest Health monster from the enemy team and many times they are in the middle of the backline. So the Blast damage will make a lot of indirect damage throughout the enemy team. 🤗

Main Damage Dealer
Dhampir Stalker

image.png

The Dhampir Stalker is a rare card and he is a Ranged attack monster with a huge damage. I always try to include him into my team, because his damage paired with his ability of True Strike makes him like a true sniper, who doesn't miss. 😊

The only problem with him is that he cost 7 mana, which is quite a lot. Usually I am renting him on Level 5 to increase his damage by one and giving him his second ability of the Deathblow.

The Deathblow sounds liek an amazing ability, but it is rarely used, because if there is only one monster left in my opponent team this ability doesn't really makes a difference. Maybe if you are facing against only Kron who is in Last Stand mode. 😁

My opponent brought the Byzantine Kitty against my team, which is one of the strongest and most expensive Summoner in the game, but she is definitely in the top 5. She gives +2 Speed and True Strike to all of her monsters and on top of that she will Heal her tank in every round. 😱

He had a lot of Flying monster as well except their Djinn Renova, so he thought the Earthquake will help him a lot.

As a Death Splinter I managed to remove one from their Melee (Harklaw), Ranged (Queen of Crows) and Magic (Thaddius Brood) damage in order to have a little bit of advantage against my opponent.

My opponent tank of Uriel is a pretty solid tank and he also has two Heal to help him out in this battle and he is a Flyer as well. 😏

In the first round there was a lot of damage being dealt, but the Armored Up ruleset mitigated most of them. Still the most important moment was when my Lira attacked their weakeset monster who was the Celestial Harpy and even though he survived the attack Lira used her Snare ability and removed his Flying ability. The Blast also removed the Flying ability from the War Pegasus as well. 😁

In the second round Lira killed the Harpy the first time in this battle and Adelade wasted her Resurrect ability on this weak monster. 😆 In this round I lost my Harklaw against their Uriel, so my Muirat became my new tank. Normally I couldn't kill his Uriel with such support, but my Djinn Muirat had the Giant Killer ability, so he managed to kill him with one show and the Blast took out his of tank as well. 🤗

At the end of the round I lost two monsters, because of the Earthquake, but my Queen still had a lot of Health. It was easy finish off the rest of their monsters and I was so happy to win this impossible game.

I believe without the Blast ability I couldn't win this game, but we need to consider all the circumstances when we are setting up our team for a battle. 😇
