DRACO-LIFE AMATEUR ENSEMBLE (BATTLE MAGE SECRETS - Counterspell)

Challenges are the part of game and in real life, achieving goals is not an easy task, you have to face many challenges to reach your targets and become successful.

We see "Battle Mage Secrets" as a challenge every week, we try our best to find the given ruleset and fight valiantly in the game to show up our strength & strategies.

The Splinterlands team has announced a new ruleset this week, all participants are required to join the contest with "Counterspell" in their battles, which means a player must fight a battle having "Counterspell" in the battle.

COUNTERSPELL

Counterspell ruleset places a "Magic Reflect" shield around every monster in the battle, if any monster with a magic attack hits another monster, it will receive a reduced damage back to itself. Suppose, if a monster with 1 Magic Damage point hits another monster, it will receive 1 damage back to itself, although the damage halving is rounded if the attack is more than 1 magic damage.

Additional Ruleset: Little League

A player cannot use Monster and Summoners costing more than 4 mana, which means that the player can only use Monster and Summoners with 4 or less mana. It is a tough ruleset and makes the battle more challenging.

BATTLE LINEUP

The battle lineup consists of a dragon summoner, 3 life units, 2 dragon units, and 1 neutral monster.

My team and opponent's units' names are shown in the table below:

STRATEGY

It is very difficult to make a team that perfectly executes the strategy when you are given a challenging ruleset like 'Little League'. Therefore, I use a Dragon summoner to reduce melee damage and used monsters having at least 2 melee damage points to maximize the total damage points each round.

I used monsters with Opportunity, Sneak, and Reach abilities to destroy backline and frontline monsters quickly. I also used a monster with Affliction to counter the healing effect of the opponent's monster in each round.

Detailed data and a strategy overview about the summoner and each monster are given below.

Summoner and Monsters in Action

Camilla Sungazer is a Legendary Dragon Summoner that reduces 1 melee damage of enemy monsters and also allows the use of both Dragon and other element monsters in the battle.

Blinding Reflector is a strong monster against melee and ranged attacks because it has 3 Armor and 5 Health at level 3, he can buy me a good time to hold the enemy frontline as I clear the backline using my sneak monster.

Twilight Basilisk with 2 Damage points is standing in 2nd position and he can decimate the enemy's tank from 2nd position using his "Reach" ability.

Stitch Leech holds 3rd position in the backline and attacks the last monster in the enemy's backline with his "Sneak" ability. Because of him, I was able to reduce 2 enemy damage in the first round.

Venari Crystalsmith takes the 4th position and uses his healing skills to keep the tank alive for additional rounds.

Whelp Herder is placed in 5th position, he is very keen at attacking monsters having the lowest hit points using his "Opportunity" ability, he proved to be the MVP of the battle.

Doctor Blight is a magic monster, he has Affliction and Camouflage abilities. He cannot be attacked by sneak monsters because of Camouflage, but he receives 1 damage from the Magic Reflect shield due to the ruleset issue. I used him because of countering the healing effect on the opponent's tank monster.

The battlefield is burning with scorching sunlight, both armies are marching toward each other and getting closer to unleash their anger in the combat.

BATTLE COMMENTARY

The battle consists of 4 rounds, but each round is full of surprises and fallen monsters on the battlefield.

Round 1
Time Mage hurts herself getting a magical beam reflected on her body, Blinding Reflector shouts "Herder, get that time bitch, hurry up.".

As Whelp Herder prepares to jump, Stitch Leech severs the head of Venari Marksrat already, the rat has boosted Venari Crystalsmith with additional power as he falls to the ground.

Whelp Herder leaps toward Time Mage and hits her hard on the head with his blunt staff, Time Mage is waggling like a dying fish, she breathes heavily for a while, and within a few moments, she is lying on the ground cold and motionless.

Round 2
"Tarrgets inss my eyess, noss more Refrectors. hehe!" whispers Whelp Herder in Twilight Basilisk's ear, then he spins his staff horizontally which bumps into Bliding Reflector's whole body multiple times breaking all his bones. He is a deadweight and ready to be trashed.

Sunkai Harvester kills the wounded Bliding Reflector and screams like a crow at his achievement.

Round 3
"Herder takesss revengess, Ssunkai DIESSS, nowss." shouts Whelp Herder loudly this time. He turns his staff upside down and pierces the pointy side into Harvester's gut, Sunkai Harvester cries with pain and drops to the ground to die slowly and mercilessly.

Round 4
Enemy Venari Crystalsmith who knows Twilight Basilisk's armor is gone takes his life by throwing crystal shards leaving Basilisk in a pool of blood.

Whelp Herder finds a good spot from behind and attacks Venari Crystalsmith, he hits him unstoppable even when he is a dead mass.

Stitch Leech bores a hole into the enemy Stitch Leech and waves Doctor Blight to finish her wretched life.

Doctor Blight says in a baffled tone "What me, no way, that'll be suicidal, the magic reflect shield is active." and he sighs and adds "Okay, fine, but don't forget to revive me."

Doctor hits Stitch Leech with a magic ray, but he gets a reflected hit back on him, both monsters die together, but Doctor was taken to the nearest Dragon sanctuary for revival.

STRATEGY OUTCOME ANALYSIS

Using Camilla Sungazer was a good decision since Stitch Leech was attacking my Whelp Herder in 5th position, she reduced his attack to 1 damage point only, this way Whelp Herder survived until the battle ended, and he also killed more enemies than any other monster did.

It is better to use monsters with 2+ damage in the Little League ruleset because low-mana monsters do not have enough Health. Twilight Basilisk, Stitch Leech, and Whelp Herder did the most damage combined and made it easy for my monsters to take over the battlefield.

I could also try Peace Bringer, Fire Spitter, and Dhampir Infiltrator instead of Doctor Bight, Stitch Leech, and Twilight Basilisk, but the problem is that if ranged attack monsters come to 1st position they are unable to attack. I'll give them a try next time to see how it goes in the Little League ruleset.

When I am stuck with the Counterspell ruleset, I try to avoid using magic monsters, or I would go for a summoner that gives "Void" ability to reduce the damage of reflected magic attacks. I may still use magic monsters by adding some backline healers to support the injured team members.
