Rise of the Ranged Monsters (Battle Mage Secrets - Silent Summoners)

A special battle was announced by Praetorian authorities to select only the best ranged monsters from the Water element faction. They summoned Kelya Frendul and Vera Salacia and asked them to choose skillful ranged units only.

The authorities imposed "Silent Summoners" ruleset to observe the battle skills of ranged units without any support from their summoners. Vera and Kelya agreed not to use their powers and went to Praetoria's only garrison and started recruiting the finest units for the battle.

Silent Summoners

All summoners become powerless and only able to recruit the monsters. They cannot use any ability and apply status effects on monsters, thus all of their powers are ripped off for that battle.

Additional Ruleset: Going the Distance

This ruleset only allows ranged monsters to be used in the battle, both opponents cannot use any other type of units other than ranged ones.

BATTLE LINEUP

31 mana is assigned for this battle and I can only use ranged units since the summoners are silenced and have no powers, therefore I need to select monsters with 2 or more damage.

STRATEGY

When the summoners are stripped out of their powers, the whole game relies on the cards. The battle depends on the skills and powers of monsters, it also gets pretty tough when you cannot use all sorts of cards i.e. when the ruleset only allows 1 type of attack.

I decided to use a monster with "Close Range" ability and armor, so he could attack from the first position and take some damage on his armor. Additionally, that monster was protected by the 'Repair' ability, every round he would receive 2 armor repaired. Backline monsters with each could inflict 2 damage are good enough to remove low-health enemy monsters in the first round.

Summoner and Monsters in Action

Vera Salacia is a rare Water summoner, she attaches the 'Snare' ability to her units but not in this battle. She is powerless in this battle and will not use her ability.

Venari Marksrat stands in the first position to sacrifice his life, when he dies his Martyr ability adds additional stats to any adjacent monsters. He will increase the stats of Gargoya Devil in this battle.

Swamp Spitter is a replacement for Gargoya Devil in case of his death, he can be used as a tank. He also repairs armor and makes it a lot more difficult to hit the health of units with armor.

Kulu Swimhunter is a common ranged unit and he throws fish carcasses on his enemies. He has 2 attack points, 2 Speed points, and 4 health points.

Pirate Archer is a rare Water unit, his attack is low but it makes a blast when hits an enemy unit and also damages adjacent units.

Water Elemental sits at the last position, he has 2 ranged attacks, 4 Speed, and 4 health points. He has 'Heal' ability and heals himself each round 1/3 of his max health. If he gets attacked by any sneak monster, he will recover his health using the Heal ability.

BATTLE COMMENTARY

Both summoners are silent and cannot use their powers, they can just instruct or observe the battle.

Vera Salacia addresses her units "Be strong and make this battle a lasting impression on your future enemies, let's win this together."

Kelya Frendul "I cannot give you armor and speed in this battle, but I'll sure lift your morale if someone dies."

Round 1
Speedy Water Elemental starts the battle by removing Venari Marksrat, but his martyrdom does not become fruitful for Merdhapir as he cannot attack at first position.

Supply Runner hurls a massive stone toward Venari Marksrate which instantly makes him a corpse, but this turns out to be very useful for Gargoya Devil as he gains more strength.

"Hey octopussy, throw some spiky fish bones on Merdhampir and tell him how strong you are." orders Vera to Kulu Swimhunter. He throws some very thorny fish carcasses on Merdhampir and makes him pay with his life.

Rounds 2
Water Elemental splashes on the ground and rises, he slaps Angelic Mandarin with a powerful elemental force and kills.

Vera cheerfully shouts "That's my brave team, they know how to clean up the battleground of enemies."

What a coincident here, Kulu Swimhunter is killing the opponent's Kulu Swimhunter, what an interesting turn in the battle.

Round 3
"That gnome with 1 big and 1 small eye, I don't like the way he looks at my allies, I must kill him." says Water Elemental angrily. He becomes a speedy wave and drowns Supply Runner in a small puddle of water and keeps him in the water until his struggling body becomes lifeless.

Vera smiles and praises Water Elemental's quickness in the battle.

Round 4
The only unit that remains on the enemy side is Swamp Spitter, other than repairing his armor he has no power to attack at the first position.

"Come, Gargoya Devil, now or never, just finish this last monster and we'll be the winners of the Praetoria Garrison Contest."

Gargoya Devil lifts some rubble stones throws on Swamp Spitter and crushes his bones from inside. Swamp Spitter dies under the rubble and that also becomes his grave forever.

**"Well done, bravo, excellent, an example of pure skills." admires Vera and continues "Come on my boys, time to celebrate our victory, and don't forget to visit my castle in the night for a big party."

STRATEGY OUTCOME ANALYSIS

Summoners with powers are great but when they are without power the game becomes more challenging and interesting. I feel comfortable playing with a powerless summoner during a battle with the "Silent Summoners" rule, this provides both opponents a chance to show off true battle skills by using the best of the monsters and their abilities.

I made the right decision by using Venari Marksrat in the first position, he boosted Gargoya Devil's stats and made it easy for the team to eliminate the rest of the squad without losing any friendly unit.

Swamp Spitter had proved to be a game changer as he kept repairing Gargoya Devil's armor each round and enemy units could not reduce his health until the last round. If there was a sneak attack unit in the opponent's team, Water Elemental could have healed himself some hit points each round.

The strategy looked perfectly fine against my opponent as he lost his units in every round and could not even kill a single unit from my team. I think the team I prepared for this battle is just good in this lineup and does not require any replacement, but I am open to experimenting and trying to use other neutral monsters by removing 1 or 2 units played in this battle.
