Brawling in Fray 7 - Gold League Wild - Tier 3. I'm really not using Gladiators very much, curious. (And my first ever battle with the Witch of Warwick)

Brawling in Fray 7 - Gold League Wild - Tier 3. I'm really not using Gladiators very much, curious..png

Over the past few weeks I've been playing in Tier 3 - focusing most of my battles in the Gold League frays. It's a weird fray for me because I usually play in Diamond modern, so playing wild gold has a lot of issues - largely for forgetting cards and not having the width in my deck to be able to combat every situation - but, I persevere! This week I went 6-2 and quite happily, my guild came 3rd. We were 6 wins off the win, and I reckon we'll be there soon.

Check out the battles with me this week:

Battle 1:
This was a good win - and took my opponent by surprise I daresay. In a nutshell, my 3 magic attackers went bam-bam-bam and took down my opponent's unicorn. Meanwhile, the Captain Katie was taken down to +2 magic - which really was useless against the Djinn's shield. My Phantom of the Sea's demoralise further stuffed up the melee double strike - so I basically just had a routine victory.

Battle 2:
I went for the same strategy as the previous battle and was crushed. My opponent played his Deeplurker and just methodically took out my backrow. Basically, he creamed me as without my backrow (including my AMPLIFY) my Lord Arantheus just didn't have the punch to make an impact.

Battle 3:
Back in the winner's circle, I enjoyed this battle. I don't have a death team (which is why all my death cards in this battle are Level 1). For this battle, I raced to the market and rented Waka for 32 DEC and the Windeku - the strategy was to poison and heal! But - this was an evens battle only, so the Windeku was useless - but, Lord Arantheus was amazing, and the Witch of Warick was really effective at knocking my opponent out. A very good win in the end.

Battle 4:
A really solid win in this battle - thanks again to Lord Aranthus out front - he knocked the Silvershield Bard over with his thorns straight away. My opponent played the -1 melee summoner, a good move - but luckily my own Silvershield Knight played inspire, so I got the +1 melee back to level out. In the end then, this battle really became JARED SCAR vs JARED SCAR - and, I won! The trick here was having the DIVINE SHIELD, it gave me enough extra protection to really make a very good impact.

Battle 5:
This one was disappointing - I was so certain my opponent would play a magic attack - and probably something similar to my line-up. This is why I played the Legionaire Alvar out front, and 2 x cards with -1 magic. But... I guessed wrong. My opponent played Jacek and honestly, destroyed me. His arrows were hitting my back-row furiously, and I lost my Mushroom Seer and Goblin Pyschic early in the battle and left quite impressive with my opponent's attack.

Battle 6:

This battle was another good win, but it ended up a lot tighter than I felt comfortable with. My opponent went for a BAM BAM BAM strategy and looked to punch me out of the game. I went for something a bit more conservative - playing the wings summoner to save myself hurting from the earthquake, but taking no advantage. By the end of the battle, the earthquake saved me, as I finished with only 4 health remaining!

Battle 7:

This battle was basically me destroying my opponent - in a nutshell, I used my LIFE LEECH and HARPY to go around the back of my opponent to smash his back-line; this was helped along by my PELACOR out front, as my opponent was playing a heavy magic team. With my AMPLIFY also in play, I basically outclassed my opponent, who by the end, had only managed to damage my Pelacor. A very big win on my side.

Battle 8:
A good win to round out this brawl - I just frustrated my opponent. Basically - with the King of the Seas dropping my opponent's magic by 1 - it meant that 2 of his cards couldn't hurt my LORD ARANTHUS, while the LORD ARANTHUS's shield meant that his Merdhammer could only hit me for 1. Therefore, this battle really was about working through my opponent's line-up, which was impacted by the void magic abilities - but progress was steady and off I went!

Evaluation:
In a Tier 3 brawl, going 6-2 is a good outcome, let's face it - but I feel like I need to be more careful with playing Alric, reminding myself I really need to play Venari Wavesmith to keep some armour on my team, or otherwise, I risk the Deeplurker destroying me. Otherwise, this was my first brawl using the Lorna Shine summoner - and she certainly got me over the line with 2 wins. I'm definitely putting her on my rent list for the coming brawl!

What I noticed this week, however, was that I'm using Gladiators a lot less - perhaps because my gladiator levels are not high, but it does stand out to me as something that is quite interesting. How do you guys go with Glads? Regular use, or not really?

And want to know the best part? We got another 80 crowns this week, and we're closing in on our next arena upgrade. With any luck, we'll be able to move into Tier 4 in a couple of weeks time. Watch this space as it may well get more and more interesting!

Gladiators are most powerfull in the bronze frays, And it's hard to level up those gladiators.
Btw we got a close 1st place last brawl, won against OUTTA NOWHERE.
