LIFE Sucks: Fixing my LIFE Splinter
We often hear the advice, 'Focus on building one or two of your splinters'. I feel like I've done this well, by heavily investing into WATER, and having an EARTH team which is particularly solid in battle. My FIRE team is also not too shabby and can hold their own.
What I don't have though, is strength in my LIFE splinter. Now - often times this is no big deal - except, when your hand is forced and you have to play here. It got me thinking, rather than hoping those rulesets don't come up, I need to strategically buy a couple of cards.
Here's how I set about fixing the problem:
Summoner: Lorna Shine
This card is really frustrating to come up against, because of the way her SHIELD protects each team member. I've come to realise that when you pair Lorna with a lot of low mana cards - the battle often becomes your win. I only purchased 1 of these cards, but I will need another 4 to level her up ASAP. Until then though, at $10.60 - I actually got her a bit cheaper than the market had been selling her. A bargain, and a massive way to advance my interests in the LIFE splinter.
Backrow: Dax Paragon
My next move was to purchase 4 EPIC Dax Paragons to allow me to combine him to Level 2. This card's low mana cost, and magic attack, makes him very dangerous in the LIFE splinter - particularly with the team I'm hoping to build. Those 4 cards set me back 3054 DEC.
Backrow: Adelaide Brightwing
My next move was to continue to build my magic attack, but to have the added RESURRECT skill. I already had a Level 1 Adelaide Brightwing, but I purchased 2 more at a cost of 10568 DEC to take her up to Level 2. I don't have the summoner level to use her fully, yet. But, this was about investing into my future team, not just my current situation.
Backrow: Celestial Harpy
My next move was possibly my favourite, it was to purchase 24 Celestial Harpys at a cost of 3453 DEC. I went to Level 4 to increase her attack from 1 to 2 melee. Sure, I can't use her yet - but she's a mighty 2 mana card, and one day - she will be a battle changer for me in a Lorna line-up.
Backrow: Time Mage
I actually purchased 12 of this Time Mage card to access a Level 3; having already owned 2 of them. The cost wasn't cheap at 3208 DEC - but the end product is another strong magic attack. The thing I like about this card, however, is her SLOW skill.
Backrow: Temple Priest
You can probably see a trend now, I am buying a lot of MAGIC attackers - I guess it's because it's probably one of my favourite ways to get offensive. I had this guy already at Level 2, but I wanted to push him to Level 3. I picked up 9 of this card for 2071 DEC.
Tank: Chaos Knight
The next move was for my TANK position, and it was to invest in a card with a skill I love - the SHIELD skill. I purchased 16 Chaos Knights at a cost of 952 DEC. I thought this was pretty reasonable, and it let me push my Knight up to Level 4. He is vulnerable to magic, and I wish he had higher health, but he's a great card to have on my team.
Backrow: The Silvershield Knight
This little card is not the most impressive to look at, but what is, is the INSPIRE ability he brings with him to my team. I've lost to this card many times, and thought, at a cost of 2307 DEC for just one card - he was pricey, but absolutely worth picking up.
Then, to round out my purchases - something a little bit sneaky:
Neutral: Stitch Leech
I love using SNEAK attacks, and at a cost of 3 mana for 3 melee attack - this guy is beyond a bargain! He's the bargain of the century! I purchased 30 of this card to go straight to Level 4, and at a cost of 2736 DEC only - it was probably my BUY OF THE DAY.
Evaluation:
Overall, I liked this strategy of beefing up my LIFE splinter. In the end, I feel like I am going to be able to win more forced battles in this splinter, but also - when there are low mana battles, I will be able to frustrate my opponent with a whole line up of aggressive low mana attacks. All I need now is a couple more LORNA SHINE's to allow me to really go hard in this SPLINTER.
Additionally, it is worth considering how these cards may support my success in BRAWLS too - at times, in brawls I've been forced to use LIFE and I feel like it's all about CAPTAIN KATIE - now, at least CAPTAIN KATIE will have some support around her to put up a bit of a fight!
The other key thing about these purchases was the extra power they gave me, and now, I'm happy to say, I own over 70,000 power and can exist in Silver I without renting. Bring on the additional gains! Woot!

Excellent post.
A minor suggestion I just saw that this is your 4th post in 1day. Generally that much frequency is not recommended. I don’t see that you post that frequently so just save it and spread it around… PeakD allows you to save a draft also you can time your post at a future date/time
Morning Azircon;
Thanks for the suggestion; I tend to get excited by Saturdays - feel like I go slow all week with work, then I think, 'Crap, need to do those posts!' (Especially when they're competition posts). I havn't used the draft or schedule feature yet - will need to look into it.
Not that you would remember, but this is the second time you've commented on my posts. I made my first ever post on January 4th this year - and it was only with your encouragement on that initial post that motivated me to explore more that HIVE was about. So again, thanks for that.
Aha! well then, let me ask you, what is your view after this many months?
Well - if you're speaking about our original comments, my view hasn't changed. I love playing WATER splinter. It's remained my go-to over all these months (although, I do rent Yodin for brawls, and play Yodin/Chimney wherever possible!).
If you're asking about my view of Hive - that's easy too. I am powering up nearly everything (few purchases here and there in Splinterlands). I think I'm on track to hit Dolphin status by the end of the year - which would be beyond exciting!
Anyways, time to get my day underway. I always know when that is, I sit on the back-deck each morning with my dog. When the sun hits my laptop screen and makes it near impossible to see the screen, that's when you know it's time to go inside. Have a good one. Tim
I was mostly asking about the second, and your answer is encouraging! Good luck and will check back on your progress soon!
Thanks for sharing! - @marianaemilia
Good work!
Like the plan and your end-of-year goal (comments). I'll be following. Sharing this on https://twitter.com/PraetoriaDigest.
