POWER UP the DJINN APPRENTICE with DELWYN DRAGONSCALE

Powering up the DJINN APPRENTICE with DELWYN DRAGONSCALE.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times. Synergy matters - and that's why in today's blog I'd like to discuss how the DJINN APPRENTICE can be enhanced by playing him with DELWYN DRAGONSCALE. It's all in the name, APPRENTICE - it means he needs some help, and as you'll see in my blog, DELWYN does just that!

First, let's check out the card of the week, the DJINN APPRENTICE himself!

You'll notice straight away that the DJINN APPRENTICE is part of the FIRE splinter, but he's not 'normal' in this splinter which is very melee focused (I guess thanks to TARSA) - and this card is a MAGIC damage dealer. You can see that he does +2 magic at base, and this becomes +4 when you reach DIAMOND status at Level 8. As this card develops, it would be fair to say that Level 4 is ideally where you might want this card as a minimum, as this will allow him to hit with +3 magic damage, and it bumps his speed to +3 which is reasonable enough. That said, at Level 6 he does gain the DEATHBLOW skill which will deal your opponent double damage if it is the only monster on the field, but in truth, I've never found a situation where this has activated, so perhaps its just 'dressing'.

Where this card is exciting, however, is in its ability to invest heavily into the card and to be able to get this card to MAX for around $11.50 - take a look at the market! At these prices, you can certainly consider this guy an easy choice to pick up. Sure, there's nearly 100,000 of them in print, but he's such a useful card, he will often find a space in your team.

That said, you could also consider renting this card - and, would you believe it, you could rent a Level 8 for under 20 DEC a day. That's what you call a bargain! My advice would be then, buy the card to play, not to rent out - the return just isn't worthwhile.

So there you have it - a very pretty picture of the DJINN APRPENTICE, but to make him really sing, let's check him out alongside DELWYN DRAGONSCALE. Straight away, you'd notice that this guy is a DRAGON, not FIRE specific. The reason I went for this summoner is that DELWYN gives all magic attackers on your team +1 magic. He's an underappreciated summoner in my opinion, perhaps because he was part of the PROMO series and his print is quite low. Not that that's a problem, because it means you can pick up a cheap summoner for only $5.43! And let's face it, there's nothing wrong with that! Or, you can invest in a rental by picking this card up from 0.1 of a DEC - not a bad way to use this card to get a win streak up - and let's face it, that's a good investment!

So let's find this dynamic pair a match. I think I found a great one to engage this duo, it was a 24 mana battle with no modifications.

TANK: DJINN CHWALA
I love this card. I really love this card. You see - he's so damn powerful with his THORNS. Your opponent hits you, then they take THORN damage! Also, he has high health and high armour, making him a really 'tanky' tank.

OFF-TANK: Buried behind my DJINN CHWALA I played the DJINN APPRENTICE. In this position he is protected from SNEAK attacks and behind the tank, he will have solid longevity in this battle. Given DELWYN gives him +1 magic, it pops him up to +3 total, making him an incredibly aggressive card in the line-up.

BACKLINE: We then play the VENARI SEEDSMITH in the 3rd position, this card is being played here to compliment the DJINN APPRENTICE. I want both of these cards working in partnership to throw +5 magic per round. In short, I want to put a lot of pressure on my opponent's tank and look to ignore his armour and take his health.

REARGUAR: My GOBLIN FIRETHROWER sounds my team out, in truth, he was a convenient 2 mana filler. He does +1 arrow damage, which is fine - but he's there really to die if my opponent plays a SNEAK attacker, I want to keep my MAGIC MEN untouched for as along as possible.

As the battle opens, I notice my opponent has played a +1 health summoner with the CRYSTAL JAGUAR out the front, and the LUMINOUS EAGLE in the off-tank position. The biggest issue in his line-up for me is the PARASITIC GROWTH because the opportunity will target my back-line, along with the LONE BOATMAN who will be targeting my backline.

Looking at the line-up, I felt confident starting the battle, but let's see how it progresses:

image.png

Round 1 Summary:

In this round my success was knocking over my opponent's CRYSTAL JAGUAR - and in truth, everyone on my team contributed to this, and it was my CHWALA's THORNS which eventually led to the death-blow. Additionally, the THORNS hurt my opponent's LUMINOUS EAGLE. That said, my DJINN APPRENTICE is under some pressure as the LONE-BOATMAN has the SNIPE ability, which took half his health. That means in this round the DJINN APPRENTICE will also be targeted by the PARASITIC GROWTH's opportunity card.

Round 2 Summary:

Through Round 2, it became very clear who was going to win this battle (me, in case it wasn't clear). And, the hits were perfectly timed. You see, my opponent's LUMINOUS EAGLE had 2 health remaining, and the +2 magic of VENARI SEEDSMITH took a kill. This promoted the PARASITIC GROWTH to the front line with his +3 health, which my +3 attacking DJINN APPRENTICE took. This promoted the LONE BOATMAN to the tank position in this battle, and gave me the win, as the ARROW attacker could not hit from this position. GAME OVER.

I know what you're thinking, you loved that battle in screenshots, but how about re-living it through the video replay? https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_3d297787136e0cf8527b3ca20563d486&ref=lordtimoty

Evaluation:
The DJINN APPRENTICE is a card I've used a fair bit in the FIRE splinter; it's because magic is my favourite attack and this battle was no different. The trick to using him, however, is that you need to be able to put him with other magic attackers - this way you focus on doing damage to your opponent's health, ignoring armour. The problem with magic attackers, however, is they don't have a lot of defense - so you really need to think about how you protect them. In that way, this battle became a bit of a showcase into keeping the magic men alive and allowing them to rip through the opponent's line-up.

I thought the dragon scale was a death summoner? I have the apprentice at level one and because I majorly use the Tarsa for fire splinter it's quite difficult to appreciate it's abilities at that level.

After watching the video I concluded it's a dragon summoner, since I saw the chwala in action. That was a convincing win if you ask me.

Morning Jose; the opponent I had played a very poor team, which helped ;)
But where I would usually want the DJINN APPRENTICE is in a partnership with the DJINN INFERNI - those 2 go together beautifully!

Oh the iferni? I haven't played him with the apprentice before, I majorly use conqueror jacek for the inferni alone. The scattershot is massive.

Good old Dragonscale Delwyn only costs 0.2 of a DEC to rent; you should give it a whirl and see how it plays. If you hide those magic cards behind a strong tank, and have something for a rear guard, it does make a pretty decent team. Even a GRUMM out front can be quite useful.
(Just an FYI too, about this time tomorrow, if I remember, I'll end up undelegating that GF DEATH DJINN, but you'll have him for the EoS if you need the card power. Did you find you used him much?)

Yeah I know you'll be undelegating him and wow it was amazing having it, it boosted my CL and I was opportuned to play in Silver two. Also, the season ends tomorrow, so Thanks a million for giving me the opportunity..

It's a decent combo but I feel that things might have been easier using a different splinter type besides fire. I just think fire is lacking in the magic department and it doesn't have many options.

Only problem is he has very low health, play him in an equalizer rule set is better

Yea; that does seem to be the way of the magic cards, unless they're in water.
I guess not every card can be super-beast!!
