Re-entering the Splinterlands game with a more focused strategy. Check out how far $152 went on these LIFE LEGENDARY cards!

At the end of the season before last, I thought my time with Splinterlands was coming to a close - but as it turns out, it has its hooks in me! I wanted to take a break as I was becoming frustrated that I coudln't quite move up as high in the rankings as I was liked. I wanted to bust into CHAMP league - but, I was frustratingly stuck 50-100 points shy of the goal. I felt a bit defeated -
So, I walked away - and have come back with some new thoughts and ideas about how best to approach the game. This starts with the kind of cards I purchase - previously, I only ever purchased gold foil cards. You see, I liked that they were shiny, but what it meant was that, particularly with my legendary cards, I was not playing maxed cards. My new strategy then will be to re-buy higher level cards in the regular print, and given you can buy the same level cheaper than the gold foil, I will be able to buy a lot more cards that I couldn't previously look at.
Today then, I started that re-buying phase and I wanted to take a look at some of the deliberate purchases I made in the LIFE splinter. I figured I would look to re-purchase a splinter per week, so it was easy to check out LIFE first, as I'm most excited about building a Grandmaster Rathe team!

In my post today, I want to share the LEGENDARY purchases I made in the LIFE splinter, I was a bit surprised at how cheap they are (having always purchased gold) and the cards I picked up in this post only set me back $152!
The first card on my list was the High Priest Darius. This is a card I really like, and while I have occassionally rented it, I never thought to own it as the GOLD FOIL edition was out of my reach. This card is pretty amazing, as it plays +3 magic attack with the RESURRECT skill. Just quietly - that makes this guy pretty dangerous as both an offensive and defensive weapon.
At $27, this is a card I'd like to take to L3, but I can do that in a couple of weeks after I build my team a bit wider.

The second card I'm excited about is Adelade Brightwing, who I think will pair particularly well with Darius, as both of their RESURRECT skills will no doubt frustrate the crap out of my opponent. This is a card I had the L2 version of in the gold foil, but by going the regular print, I've been able to get this guy to L3 and that's super, because it gives this guy the anti-poison ability. This will certainly give me an advantage in those poison ruleset battles. Look out!
At 6 bucks each, and only needing 6 ($36) for a L3, it's a no brainer.

Of course, no LIFE line-up can be complete without Uriel The Purifier! I rented this card at L2 Gold Foil occassionally, but where this card really shines is at Level 3 as he has the heal ability. This is all about synergy with the GRANDMASTER RATHE, whose abilities mean that opponents need to hit your armour before your health - with 2 resurrects behind him, and a armour-heal from Adelade Brightwing, this card is the ultimate meat shield.
Again, at around $36 odd dollars, this card really offers an awful lot of value.

And then there's Bila The Radiant. I have to confess, I've never used this card before, but I've lost to her enough to know she's worth having in your line-up. This card is playing +3 magic which is huge, but - it also has the LIFE-LEECH ability. That means she will gain +2 health each round. Basically making her difficult to drop, especially with her DIVINE SHIELD which blocks the first hit on this card. This card cost me 3 x $14 - which, let's face it, isn't too bad given the scarcity of this card. ($42)

Of course then I picked up a SOUL FIEND. For just over 5 bucks, this card has a lot of utility. You stick it someone to die, it does it's job and protects your other cards in the process.

And finally, there's JARED SCAR.
Look, I know what you're thinking. Waste of cash - and yea, I get that. But at $5.50 for a Level 2 (3 BCX) he isn't expensive. What I need to do is buy another 3 to get this guy to Level 3 - and then wait for a melleee attack from anywhere ruleset, at Level 3 he picks up PIERCE and that'll make him a whole lot more dangerous. At the moment, He's a terrible tank because he is a lot of mana, is low attack, and dies quickly.

Evaluation:
While I only showed off my new LIFE LEGENDARY cards in this post, I went on a significant shopping spree across the entire SPLINTER, spending around $425. Needless to say, I think I have a fairly good variety of cards at a high level to do battle with. Most notably though, I'm missing a summoner. My strategy from here will be to buy cards in all the splinters and then to simply rent my summoners until I have unstaked enough HIVE to buy them. This will get me back to where I was, and then, fingers crossed, a whole lot further!
You see - the rewards are skewed to the top tiers of this game (Diamond and Champ) so the goal is to invest heavily, to get significant rewards back. I hope to document my journey when I get underway!

That's going to be a powerful life team you have there. Do you rent most of your cards or do you have them on an alt account?

Heya ctrpch;
I used to have a really decent gold deck of cards, 95% of them in gold foils. I sold them all off a couple of weeks ago when I cracked the shits with the game. So I'm coming back with a new strategy of only buying regular prints to make my $$ go a lot further, and in doing so, hoping to go a lot further in the game.
At the moment, I only own minimal cards that I purchased today. These are all on the rental market, but by the end of this season, I'd like to have started playing again full time.
Is one color enough up there (I use up there cuz I linger around bronze and silver)? Cuz I feel like you need to have capable cards in at least like 2-3 colors so you won't be screwed if your primary color cannot be used.
Heya goliathus;
Yep - odds of getting LIFE splinter every turn is extremely minimal. When I sold off all my cards, I put them into hive power. The problem I have now is that I need to wait for it to unstake to buy back into the game across all the splinters. I guess for my own organisation, it just made sense to buy splinter by splinter. The cheapest splinters to pick up will be Death, then Fire. I will probably grab those 2 next, and then Water and Earth. Dragons are fairly cheap too because I won't be buying many of them. I probably need 2 more weeks before I'm in a position to start playing ranked. I'm hoping to catch the end of the current season ;)
Uriel is a beast and so are you Tim. Youre back in the game tho huh champ, cool manm. Solid strat. Golds are killin me too.

Yea, going to take a few weeks to rebuild my deck, but the plan I have is that I'll be building towards a gold deck - and then as my hive becomes unstaked, will top it up to a diamond deck. Hopefully the plan works - also thinking more about rentals. The old strategy I had was minimal rentals, but I'm thinking this time around to go nuts for legendary summoners and rent to blitz through the leagues. I dunno, I like gold foils, but it wasn't going to work. This new strategy should work - but I'll tell you, it was the idea of tower defense that had the biggest appeal ;)
Makes sense man. Idk why i want golds, they looks cool i guess. But looking cool is expensive, and im not a baller like that. Ill be spending the next year repairing myself from all my mistakes in trading and whatnot. Im due to make a coffee post tonight, seems to be the community that supports me the most. Feels like leo curate never hits me up. And i see them support people that do the same old repeat posts every day, kind of a downer. I dont want to feel that way though. Im sure i can be doing more, so i blame myself.

Yea Milly and Leaky seem like awesome people.
I think my best posts when I first got on the chain were earning like a dollar. I think there's an element of time on the chain to it all too. But, if we keep on keeping on, we'll be laughin'.
Those are some strong cards and they can definitely help. I still don't have Adele but it would be a powerful addition to my deck if I do get one.

Heya jfang; I've always used Adelade at Level 2 in the past, but having that extra anti-poison ability on her makes this a really strong card. Looking forward to getting into the battles and putting her to work.

STOPThat is one hell of a shopping spree you've done aiming for the Champions league. I am a big fan of Life the cards you've bought are all worth it I must and using Adele and High Priest combo is not only going to frustrate your opponents, it's going to piss them off. I don't wish to be your opponent at this stage.

I am not a life Splinter fan, but those cards are the good ones.
