Welcome to another Splinterchat with LordTimoty - I'm glad you joined me, because we need to talk strategy. In one sentence, it's this: you need to upgrade your summoners.

To give the conversation context, I need to tell you, I play in Silver - and I'll tell you, I'm scared to move to gold, because my deck will get smashed! My cards are not leveled up high enough, because my summoners are also limited. But let's take a look at how summoners make a difference.

Here's an overview of the Silver parameters. It is easy to remember, it goes down in numbers: 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 across common, rare, epic and legendary. Simple, eh?

To do this, I'd like to focus on the Chaos Legion, as these cards are the most accessible right now.

Let's do this by checking out, my second favourite chaos Summoner, Obsidian.

She's not a bad card - and I have mine at Level 3. However, in Silver, I could come up against a Level 1, or a Level 4. This raises the question, why would I invest $100 into this card (25 x $4 each) rather than buying individual cards?

The first consideration in Earth is your healer. It is lucky, then, that the Earth healer is a magic card. That means that using Goblin Pyschic with Obsidian will give him +3 magic attack.

Now, looking at the card between Level 1 and Level 5, keeping in mind you could see this card in those ranges in Silver - there is no difference in magic damage, or speed. However, this isn't really an attack card, it is a support card. Have a look what happens at Level 4: Affliction. This skill will be cast on your opponent's card and stop them from being healed.

How about that? If you were in a match where you can heal your tank, but your opponent couldn't. It's game-changing. The extra 1 health at level 5 is also useful, and may well end up letting this goblin survive an extra hit!

Worth the upgrade? Absolutely.

The second card essential to an Earth deck is the Djinn Biljka. This is a reward card, and incredibly useful and incredibly cheap at $3.25 each. You could encounter this card in Silver at either Level 1 or Level 2. And there is a huge difference between them.

The biggest one of note is the gain in magic attack, moving from 1 to 2 magic attack. But, the magic void skill he gains is game-changing. If he gets hit with a 1 magic attack, he'll take no damage. If he gets hit with 2 magic damage, he'll only take 1 damage.

If you had a 1 Lvl 1 vs Lvl 2 Djinn Biljka, it'd mean that the Level 1 CANNOT, even in 100 hits, damage the card. Enough said.

Worth the upgrade? Absolutely.

What about my favourite Earth tank? Mycelic Infantry is awesome, and I love his SHIELD ability. This guy is my go-to tank in Earth because he is so mighty!! Again though, the upgrade is huge. He's a rare card, so you might find him anywhere from Level 1 to Level 4. The difference? 1 attack and 2 health. Given his SHIELD, that health is worth a lot more, while this tank is likely to last many, many rounds in a battle, so the +1 melee might be worth an extra 3,4,5 or more damage each battle.

So what's the verdict?

You need to upgrade. Each card in an upgraded state makes small gains - but those gains are multiplied across an entire team. With the minimum vs max cards allowed in Silver, based on those 3 cards, here's the difference summary.

  1. You can affliction skill, your opponent cannot heal.
  2. You gain +1 magic, and the magic void ability.
  3. You can +1 melee.
  4. You can a total of 4 health between the cards.

That's HUGE! And shows, with the help of just three cards, if you had these gains across all six cards in your team, the advantage you will gain will grant you a very easy win. The strategy: even if your opponent has amazing strategy, they won't beat yours, which is simply, upgrade.

The temptation is to give it a miss, as the upgrade on one card might seem 'not worth it'. But you need to keep thinking the bigger picture, which is, of course, an entire team, and then, an entire deck.
