Ruleset and line-up:

ruleset.jpg
Holy Protection - All Monster have the Divine Shield ability
Odd Ones Out - Only Monsters with odd Mana costs may be used in battles
Mana Cap of 22.
Available Splinters - Fire, Water, Earth, Life, Death and Dragon

My Team:

Summoner: Kelya Frendul(+1 to Speed, +1 to Armor)

1. Cruel Sethropod - Tank, Melee Damage Dealer
2. Flying Squid - Melee Damage Dealer with the Reach ability
3. Venari Wavesmith - Damage Dealer with the Protect ability
4. Ureaus - Damage Dealer with the Sneak ability

Strategy:

Because of the Odd Ones Out ruleset the available Monsters are very limited, even more so with the rather little Mana cap. I mainly chose the Water splinter because of Kelya's +1 Armor ability, especially in low mana non-Magic fights that extra protection often makes the difference.

Position 1 - Cruel Sethropod:

I decided to place the Cruel Sethropod in the tank position because the low mana cost. In a low mana battle like this it feels much better than the demon shark.

Position 2 - Flying Squid:

Flying squid in the second spot is a no-brainer. Because of the Reach Ability it may attack from this position and it also makes for a decent offtank thanks to the high health.

Position 3 - Venari Wavesmith:

I placed the Venari Wavesmith in the middle to get the most out of the Protect Ability. To get the most of that ability that Monster should be one of the last to be downed.

Position 4 - Ureaus:

Low mana cost, Sneak attack and also a great Sneak protection even without Kelya or Venari's extra Armor abilities Ureaus was placed in the back mostly to protect the Venari Wavesmith from as many attacks a possible.

It is not often you face the Summoner Lir Deepswimmer in the lower leagues, even less in low mana battles, but the Return fire and Blind abilities can be scary and decide a match. Luckily I didn't bring any Ranged attackers, so I don't have to worry about the Return fire, but the Blind could lead to some crucial misses. Overall I seem to have a slight advantage. More Monsters that attack each round (crucial in a Holy Protection ruleset), higher overall damage and speed. It is just those extra 15% chance to miss because of the Blind ability that worries me...

Round 1:

One miss on my side in this round, a bit unlucky but it is to be expected that I miss a few times at least, so far I'm still confident about the direction this match is heading to.

Round 2:

A nice 10% miss from my opponent, so that brings the unlucky missing standing to 1-1. So far, so good.
round2.jpg

Round 3:

No missing on either side, my Tank goes down, but the opponents tank is heavily damage. Things are still going my way.
round3.jpg

Round 4:

No misses in this round either and this time the opponents tank goes down.
round4.jpg

Round 5:

And another one bites the dust. Thanks to the higher speed my Ureaus gets to attack first and takes down the opponents Ureaus in a mirror match
round5.jpg

Round 6:

The match is decided, even the RNG-Gods can't change the outcome now. Flying Squid has to much health and the magic attacks from the Wavesmith can't miss. But it just takes 1 hit from the Squid to end this match.

Result:

My strategy worked. The only thing I feel like I could have done different to improve my side a bit is placing 0 mana cards in the back, but I don't own a chicken and simply forget to use the fiend from time to time...

I like the Flying Squid. Even in low league matches he is a force to be reckoned with. High damage, high health, nice speed and the Reach ability are a very good combination. But it is going to be interesting how the extra abilities on the higher levels are going to influence the matches - once I'm ready to move up a league of course.
