Bye Bye Goldfoil Gladius Cards - Happy Burn the Cards for DEC instead of Merits.
I'm currently facing a mix of emotions and am unsure whether to feel sad or happy. The Splinterlands team has recently announced a significant change that, starting April 2, 2024, players who decide to "burn" their Gladiator cards will only receive Merit Tokens in return. These tokens can also be obtained from chests in ranked matches or by participating in Brawls. This update has prompted me to make a swift decision to burn all of my Gold-Foil Gladiator cards and collect the Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) from the burning process. Since I received these cards at no cost, my strategy is to convert the earned DEC into Hive Backed Dollars (HBD) tokens and enjoy a fine 20% profit on this transaction. By burning my collection of Gold-Foil cards, I will be acquiring a total of 210,000 DEC tokens. This decision is bittersweet as it involves giving up a part of my collection, but the potential financial gain and strategic move towards investing in HBD tokens presents an exciting opportunity.

Wow! That was quite a huge sum of Gladius Cards burned. I have also burned all of my GF gladius since I'm not playing on GF brawls and most of my normal foils have out leveled the GF cards ranging between silver to gold cap.
I am in the same boat as you are - I just burned all my Gladiators on Brodo-Swaggins account :'(
I might even burn my GF Glads on CaptDingus - it's a bittersweet moment indeed.
I think it is the best choice and I also burned my GLF Gladius cards although I burned a lot less cards than you :)
The possibility of burning cards will create scarcity in the future.
Assets will then gain tremendous value when other functionalities are unlocked for the Gladiators series.
