Newbie Tries Rent to Play and Profit Strategy

Hi Splinterlands fans and curious onlookers.

Warning! This is my first post on this community ever, newbie errors lie ahead. You have been warned :-)

Like many of you, I have fallen in love with an online game called Splinterlands. How it began...

My wife and daughter love to play Roblox, and they asked me to play with them. I got bored quickly, but wondered if one could play a game and earn crypto instead of something like Robux. After a few Google searches I learned about NFT games. That opened up a whole new world for me...

Then I googled for best NFT games. Most sites came up with a list of about ten. Splinterlands caught my eye because it is a game of strategy, and relies on some degree of skill. Okay, it was the artwork on the cards that is intriguing and fascinating. That lured me in. As an ex tournament level chess player that loves strategy games, I at last found the one for me. Watch out Splinterlands! Here comes Luckydude!

I found the rules fairly simple to learn and follow, and in no time I started winning a few battles. Like the chess world, they have a rating system, and it didn't take me too long to get to the level where I qualified to earn crypto. Now I could retire at last and spend the rest of my days playing Splinterlands and traveling the world. Not!

To my massive dissappontment... The earnings were miniscule, and the platform was flooded with bots named Ding4265 or something similar that made the game impersonal. I was about to give up,but then...

They changed the earning system recently. I was starting to earn a bit more and the bots became less. Thanks Splinterlands! Now I am an addict again. Of course my job performance has suffered, and my online degree has not been getting as much attention again. I earned enough to buy about a half loaf of bread a day. I would not starve at least if I got fired.

Now for the boring stuff..., my strategy. At first I would try to buy cards. It took forever to build up a decent team and the game was costing me more than I was making. Most of my cards were losing value as well as the DEC and SPS crypto currencies they use. Then I decided to try out a new strategy... I would rent high powered cards for a day and try to earn more than the daily rental on them in ranked battles. Want to know how that is working out for me? You'll have to wait for my next blog. Where's that half loaf of bread. I feel like some toast and cheese for breakfast.
