High Mana Matches are GREAT! - Share your Battle Weekly Challenge

Strong, Mana-Hungry Monsters clashing with each other? Count me in!

Every army should have them, every artisan should hire them, and every noble should own one. If you need absolutely anything, then a supply runner will get it for you. For their size they can carry vast amounts, they’re incredibly fast and they’ll even defend your deliveries with exuberant relish. Not only that but their expertise with the catapult they carry is renowned across the land. Countless confrontations have been recorded in the history books of these hired hands coming to the aid of convoys beset by bandits or roaming patrols attacked by the enemy. They have swarmed the foe, firing their shot down upon them and running havoc amongst their ranks with their incredible speed. Most of these forays have ended with the enemy fleeing, but those that did remain and fight didn’t last for long.

I personally love High Mana Matches, and this one, with 60 Mana Limit, was just superb!

In High Mana Matches, players are able to play more powerful cards that have more interesting abilities. The whole match becomes more enthralling as there's lots of interactions between those abilities and, in my opinion, that's what makes Splinterlands fun to play: how to use the cards in a smart way, combo'ing different abilities in order to make a better team.

Supply Runner, in itself, isn't a very mana-efficient card, unfortunately. With a Mana Cost of 6, there are usually better cards to be played. But, as you'll see ahead, my whole strategy was built around hitting the enemy Tank fast and hard: I refrained from playing Monsters with abilities like Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity; thus, all my cards attacked the 1st Monster of my opponent.

In this situation, Supply Runner becomes a viable card, with 2 Ranged Damage per turn and a Speed of 3, guaranteeing that he'll be one of the first Monsters to attack: as you can see, he was faster than all but one of my enemy's Monsters.

Focusing damage is really important to win matches: if you end up spreading your damage around, you won't kill anyone. But, by focusing damage, you can quickly dispatch some enemy Monsters before they can even attack you.

Let's analyze my team!

• My Summoner is Kelya Frendul. The Water Splinter has dozens of strong, High Mana Monsters, and I think that it's the strongest Splinter in this kind of Match due the huge availability of mana-hungry cards. Also, the +1 Speed and +1 Armor gives to the whole team a lot of extra survivability against Melee/Ranged enemies, which was exactly the case on this match.

• The frontline tank is the Djinn Oshannus. My whole team was built around the idea that I was going to fight against a Melee/Ranged-based deck, and Djinn Oshannus was my insurance against Magic Monsters. With his Void ability, he counters very well those pesky Magicians!

• My 2nd Monster is the Captain's Ghost. I love using this Monster as my secondary tank due his huge Healthpool of 7, and his ability to attack while on the 2nd position as he's a Magic Monster.

• My 3rd Monster is the Sea Genie. He was the most-fragile Mosnter of my team with only 3 Health and 1 Speed; thus, I played him in the middle of my team in order to protect him against any incoming attacks. But the Genie still has 2 Magic Attack, making him very strong attack-wise.

• My 4th Monster is River Hellondale. She's one of my favourite cards to combo with Kelya Frendul due the Ressurect Ability. A ressurected Monster comes back into play with only 1 Health: but Kelya Frendul +1 Armor buff applies to the ressurection, thus, the Monster ends up with 1 Health and 1 Armor, almost 100% more resilient than the usual.

• My 5th Monster is the Supply Runner. I ran out of strong, Mana-expensive Magic Monsters to play, and my strongest Ranged Monster without Snipe was him. As I was wanting to focus 100% of my damage on the enemy tank, he was the best card available.

• My 6th and last Monster is Nerissa Tridawn. She's just a beast of a card with 9 Health and 3 Magic Damage. I like playing him in the last place in order to protect my team against Sneak attacks: due her huge Healthpool, she's able to stay alive even after being hit several times by Sneaky Monsters!

Good News, Everyone! The battle was a Success!

The match was a landslide!

Simply put: my enemy lacked the firepower to kill any of my Monsters. His damage was too spread out: his tank and his Djinn Apprentice attacked Djinn Oshannus; his Serpentine Spy attacked my Sea Genie; and his Tenyii Striker attacked Nerissa Tridawn. In the end, he wasn't able to kill a single Monster of mine.

OK, OK! He WAS able to kill Sea Genie one time. But, due the Ressurection ability, the Genie came back to life, and stayed alive until the end of the match.

In the other hand, my whole team focused damage on my enemy's tank. Every 3 or 4 attacks, I was able to easily kill a Monster. In just 3 Rounds, his whole team was dead, while my whole team was alive and healthy!
