This post is an entry to the SHARE YOUR BATTLE Weekly Challenge - Kulu Swimhunter!

Kulu Swimhunter

LORE

Kulu Swimhunters are members of a race of squid-like creatures that hunt in packs. They use their multiple tentacles to wield all manner of projectiles, to include spears, coral, and even fish. They are very aggressive and are known to traverse oceans, lakes, and rivers, killing for sport and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. They do not value gold or glory and will ally themselves with whoever promises the greatest opportunity to hunt and kill.

CARD DETAILS (Level 1)
Mana Cost: 4
Splinter: WATER
Edition: CHAOS LEGION
Rarity: COMMON
Stats: 2 Ranged Attack, 4 Health, 2 Speed

Abilities: NONE (even at level 10 the Kulu Swimhunter has no special ability at all, which is very unique in a sense!)

The Match

The main strenght of the Kulu Swimhunter is his plentiful amount of raw Stats. Costing only 4 Mana, he has a total of 10 raw Stats (2 Ranged Attack + 4 Health + 2 Speed). Being a Ranged creature and having a large Health, this Monster is great to be played on the last place of your team, because he'll be able to absorb some incoming Sneak damage and protect the rest of your team, while attacking each and every turn due being a Ranged Monster.

He'll be even stronger on matches with Rulesets that buffs Ranged Monsters (like True Aim and Target Practice). In this match, we had the Explosive Weaponry ruleset, in which all Monsters get the Blast Ability, buffing the Kulu Swimhunter.

But BE CAREFUL!

The Water Splinter has lots of incredible Monsters with strong abilities: Sneak (Sabre Shark, Pelacor Bandit), Snipe (Sniping Narwhal), Opportunity (Feastering Seaweed, Deeplurker)... if you end up using all of them, your damage will be spread out and you won't kill anything.

Try focusing your damage on one or two fronts, so you'll be able to deal enough damage to actually kill the enemy Monsters. For example, in this match, 5 of my Monsters were attacking the enemy tank, and 1 of them (the Mantoid) was attacking the enemy backline with the Snipe ability.

Let's analyze my team!

  • My Summoner is Kelya Frendul, the currently most popular Water Summoner. He gives two great buffs to all your Monsters: +1 Speed and +1 Armor. Both these buffs can make your team way more resilient, as they'll be more difficult to be hit (due the extra Speed) and more difficult to be actually killed (due the extra Armor).

  • The frontline tank is Torhilo the Frozen and my 2nd Monster is Djinn Oshannus. I was very afraid that my opponent would be playing the Forest Splinter with the Obsidian + Magic Monsters Combo, so I decided to play two different Monsters with the Void ability to protect myself against this strategy. He ended up not playing the Forest Splinter at all, but they're both incredibly strong tanks anyway!

  • My 3rd Monster is the River Hellondale. I recently got this card and I'm in LOVE with it! The Ressurect ability brings your first killed Monster back to life, messing with the enemy strategy and giving your team an extra sustainability!

  • My 4th Monster is Captain's Ghost. He's a great High-Mana Monster, with lots of Health and 2 Magic Damage. In retrospect, I should have played him in the 3rd place, in order to protect the more-fragile River Hellondale. But it's just a small mistake that won't make much difference in the end anyway.

  • My 5th and 6th Monsters are the Mantoid and the Kulu Swimhunter. I decided to play two high-Health Ranged Monsters in the backline in order to protect the rest of my team if my enemy decided to play Monsters with the Sneak ability.

Good News, Everyone! The battle was a Success!

The match was a landslide! I exterminated all the enemy team without losing A SINGLE MONSTER from my own team!

The only Monster my opponent played with reasonable Tanking capacities (high Health and Armor) was the Shieldbearer, and when he was killed, the rest of the team died really fast as they were too weak and fragile.

In the other hand, my own team had several high Health Monsters that were able to stay alive even after receiving several attacks.
