Feral Spirit

LORE

Forever caught between dimensions, the Feral Spirits (and all Luminous Beasts) are the result of the Obliteration of Light, a horrible destructive event in which all the living vanished from the surface of Khymeria. These spirits do not hunger or thirst, but their fangs still bite and their claws still slash..

The Strategy

Unfortunately, I do not own the card Feral Spirit 😥 [sad trombone]

But, to keep the thematic on the Life Splinter, I'll be sharing with you guys a really easy and 100% free wombo-combo that you can play with your starter cards that will guarantee lots of wins to you!

You'll be playing these three cards together: Shieldbearer + Scavo Hireling + Venari Crystalsmith

The MVP of this combo is the Shieldbearer, the 8-Mana Monster that you'll be using as your Tank. He has 4 Armour and 9 Health, making him incredibly strong and able to sustain a lot of incoming damage.

Not only that but he has one of the best abilities in the game: Taunt. Taunt means that ALL enemy monsters will be focusing him, nonetheless having other abilities that would allow them to attack your backline monsters (like Sneak, Opportunity and Snipe). This ability will 100% guarantee that all enemy monsters will be attacking the Shieldbearer, and the rest of your team will be safe.

The other two cards of the combo, Scavo Hireling and Venari Crystalsmith, are there with the sole reason to heal the Shieldbearer. Scavo Hireling has the Repair ability (repairing the Armor of your tank every turn), while the Venari Crystalsmith has the Tank Heal ability (healing your tank every turn).

These two cards will allow the Shieldbearer to be almost invencible: usually, the enemy team will NOT be able to deal enough damage to kill him, as you'll be healing as much as they'll be dealing damage.

Let's see this strategy in action!

The Battle

Link to the Battle

Due the "Even Stevens" ruleset, I wasn't able to play the Scavo Hireling as he costs 3 Mana and this ruleset allows only Monsters with Even mana. But I'll be able to show the idea behind this combo anyway, as the team was built exactly the same way, and the combo worked even without Scavo.

Let's analyze my team composition:

  • The frontline tank is Shieldbearer; as I said before, he'll attract ALL the incoming damage from the enemy team: if the Shieldbearer is able to stay alive, you'll win the game.

  • My Summoner was General Sloan, giving +1 Ranged attack to all my Monsters. Because of him, all the cards I've played besides the tank were all Ranged, so I could extract more value from his bonus.

  • My 2nd and 4th Monsters were two Ranged damage dealers: Xenith Archer (just a generic, 2-mana Monster to fill the maximum available Mana) and Pelacor Arbalest. I just LOVE the Arbalest: when played together with General Sloan, he can deal an incredibly high amount of 6 damage per turn (2 attacks of 3 damage per turn) but he's incredibly fragile with only 2 Health; as the Shieldbearer will attract all the damage to himself, the Arbalest is 100% protected and ready to destroy the enemy team!

  • My 3rd Monster is the Venari Crystalsmith: she'll be healing the Shieldbearer and keeping him alive. Easy job, isn't it?

The battle was a Success!

As it was expected, the enemy team didn't had the damage to kill the Shieldbearer. They dealt damage to him, but the Venari Crystalsmith kept outhealing the incoming damage.

In the other hand, my own Monsters were able to freely attack the enemy without any kind of retaliation. The Pelacor Arbalest just decimated the enemy team singlehandedly!

In just a three rounds, the whole enemy team was dead, while not a single Monsters of my team was killed; the Shieldbearer was barely damaged at all, ending the game with 7 Health points.

Conclusion

The Shieldbearer + Scavo Hireling + Venari Crystalsmith combo is incredibly strong and very difficult to deal with.

Considering only the free starter cards, I think that the best shot against this combo is playing Obsidian (the Forest Splinter summoner with +1 Magic damage) and lots of Magic Monsters, in order to bypass the Armour and countering the Scavo Hireling ability (as Magic damage bypass Armour, he won't be repairing any Armour, becoming useless).

If you're a very experienced player that's using high leveled cards, the main thing that you'll want is a Shieldbearer Level 5: at this level, he receives the Shield ability, halving all the Melee/Ranged incoming damage by half. You'll essentially be invulnerable against Melee/Ranged, and you'll be able to build the rest of your team to counter Magic monsters.

As you'll have a weakness against Magic Monsters, I do strongly recommend playing the Clay Golem as your secondary tank: if the Shieldbearer dies, you'll have a strong tank with the Void ability, giving you a chance to stand against those pesky magic-users!!
