The Low-Mana Death Splinter Strategy - Share your Battle Weekly Challenge

The Death Splinter has great cards to be played on Low-Mana Matches, like the Carrion Shade! Read this post in order to find out this strategy!

A carrion shade is a dark-winged bird that feeds off of the dead bodies of animals and people. They often flock to battlefields and dangerous parts of the wilderness where there are sure to be corpses. They travel in small groups and have no natural predators. Most people fear the carrion shades, though. For to see a group following you is to know your life is in danger. Tales whispered by the elder wise women claim that if you see a single carrion shade perched outside your home, then someone you love will die that night.

Ability: None

The Carrion Shade gets Flying at Level 3 (Has an increased chance of evading Melee or Ranged attacks from Monsters who do not have the Flying ability.), and that's why a lot of players like to level up this card until to the level 3.

The Plan

The Death Splinter, with the current Chaos Legion free cards, is heavily focused on Countering the Enemy Strategy.

Think about it: while other Summoners usually offer bonuses to their own team (Fire Splinter Tarsa gives +1 Melee Damage, Life Splinter General Sloan gives +1 Ranged Damage and Forest Splinter Obsidian gives +1 Magic Damage, just to cite a few examples), both Death Summoners are debuffers to the enemy team: Contessa L'Ament is a Ranged Counter with her -1 Range Damage; and Thaddius Brood is a Magic Counter with his -1 Magic Damage (and -1 Health as a bonus!)

Nowadays, it's the general consensus that the whole Bronze/Silver meta orbits around Magic Monsters, especially with the Forest Splinter and Obsidian as a Summoner, but also with Delwyn Dragonscale (Dragon) and Alric Stormbringer (Water). The Magic Forest combo is incredibly strong, and Thaddius Brood is in a very strong position to counter it!

The Death Splinter shines on Low-Mana Matches, because it has several cheap but very mana-efficient Monsters, including the star of this post, Carrion Shade. Let's take a look at these Monsters:

• Carrion Shade: with a mana cost of 1, it's the ideal Monster to "fill up" when you have a mana left. He has 2 Health, enough to tank some incoming damage and protect your team.

• Undead Badger and Maggots: both are very cheap mana-wise (2 and 3 Mana, respectively), and both have special abilities that allow them to attack when they're on your backline (Sneak and Opportunity).

• Life Sapper and Venari Bonesmith: both these Monsters have 1 Magic Damage and the Life Leech ability, allowing them to build up their health during the match. And they only cost 3 and 4 Mana!

• Silent Sha-Vi: a very strong Melee unit that costs 5 Mana and has 5 Health and 2 Attack. He also has the Sneak ability, allowing (again) to attack each and every turn of the match.

• Cursed Windeku: with a Mana Cost of 6, he has a huge Health of 9 Points, and the much-feared Thorns ability: everytime a Melee Monster attacks him, he deals 2 Damage back! One of the best tanks in the game on this mana range!

When you fit all these cards together, what you have is a VERY strong team on Low Mana matches that's very difficult to be beaten up by your opponent!

The Battle

This was a 16-Mana Match, being low enough for the Death Splinter to shine! Also, it had two special rulesets: Healed Out and Unprotected, meaning that Healing abilities wouldn't work and that Monsters would have no Armour. That's good news for us, as the Monsters we'll be playing have neither Healing abilities or Armour!

My Team Composition followed the guidelines shared above:

• The frontline tank is Cursed Windeku, in order to absorb enemy damage and deal 2 damage to any Melee enemy monster attacking him (like the enemy own tank!);

• My 2nd Monster is the infamous Headless Chicken, the 0-Mana card that's able to raise your winrate by A LOT on low-mana matches, considering that he's literally a free Monster that you can play. If you're serious about Splinterlands, you NEED the Headless Chicken;

• My 3rd Monster is Silent Sha-Vi: he'll be hitting hard on the enemy backline while he's also able to tank some incoming damage if he ends up on the 1st place after a few rounds;

• My 4th and last Monster is Carrion Shade: I've placed him on the last place of the team in order to protect my Monsters from any Sneak enemy monster. Fortuately, my opponent didn't played any cards with the Sneak ability, but nonetheless, it's a good and safe strategy.

Good News, Everyone! The battle was a Success!

The match was really balanced, but in the end Thaddius Brood was able to give me a win!

Cursed Windeku and Unicorn Mustang killed each other, but I still had 3 Monsters alive while my opponent only had one. Regal Peryton, with his incredinle 5 Speed and Flying ability, was able to dodge a few attacks from Silent Sha-Vi but, after a few rounds, he wasn't able to withstand the attacks and died.

Poor Carrion Shade didn't even had the chance to actually fight on the match; but he was a safety backup: if Silent Sha-Vi had bad luck and died before killing Regal Peryton, I would still have 2 extra rounds (as Carrion Shade has 2 Health, and Periton only deals 1 Damage per turn) to kill the flying Monster!
