Defeating Llama Kron / Golem

Defeating Llama Kron!

Arguably one of the most difficult combinations to beat in Splinterlands is the Llama/Kron or Llama/Golem combo. What are these combos, and why are they so frustrating? The summoner Scarred Llama Mage gives each Monster on the team the Last Stand ability, which increases that monster's stats when it is the last remaining monster on the team. When this ability is combined with a Monster that has Self-Heal, such as Kron the Undying or Flesh Golem, it is almost always devastating for the other team. These combinations are quite often fatal, and it may seem as though they are impossible to defeat. Some people might be discouraged as soon as they see Llama in someone's battle history and be tempted to flee the fight. Don't hit that Surrender button just yet! Here are some of my tried and true strategies to defeat these combos, or at least give you an edge so that your defeat isn't completely embarrassing.

Give him the Death Blow

Gargoya-Devil.png

Let me introduce you to your new best friend, Gargoya Devil. This has got to be the most underrated card in the game. The most effective strategy that I have found to date is to use Death Blow on Llama/Kron. As of right now, the only Monster with the Death Blow ability is Gargoya Devil. This may change when Chaos Legion comes out, but for now, Gargoya Devil is your go-to man. Or Monster, rather. The Deathblow ability allows the Gargoya Devil to do DOUBLE damage to a foe if it is the last person on the opposite team. (Note that this ability isn't present until Gargoya Devil is level 4, so make sure you have a leveled up summoner! This is for Silver league and higher.) I feel like this ability was created specifically to counter Llama, and I hope that more Monsters will have it in Chaos Legion! Put this monster near the back of your lineup. You want to keep this monster alive until the Last Stand ability is triggered, this is very important! If you can, try to put it second to last to protect it from Sneak attacks. As you can see in this battle lineup, it really looks as though Kron was going to power through my entire team on his last stand. While he did kill off a few, I got him first with Death Blow! Axemaster also played a key role, getting some extra damage off of Kron before he could kill off too many on the team. You're a STUNNER!

untitled.gif

Stun the crap out of Kron or Flesh Golem. If you Stun them, they will not be able to attack or heal! Stun is a super important ability, and combining this with Death Blow is literally a Death Blow to Llama/Kron. My personal favorite to use for stun is the Spirit Shaman from the Earth splinter. He gets Stun at level 3, so he is really great in Silver leagues! If you are a Silver player, you can also use Pit Ogre for Stun, but he isn't my first choice. I don't have a Lord of Darkness, but he gets Stun at level 2 and can also be used at Silver level, as can level 2 Cthulhu and level 2 Lightning Dragon. Gold league and above, you have LOTS more options for getting Stun in there.

Check out this lineup. I have Spirit Shaman in there for Stun, but the other Monsters on my team don't really have that much damage. The thorns that Mylor provides are certainly helpful, but Spirit Shaman and Stun really carried this battle. The stun prevents Kron and the Pelacor Mercenary from healing, which allowed my other monsters to attack them into the ground! Gargoya Devil or Stun alone isn't always enough though.....

Team Work Makes the Dream Work!

Check out this lineup. I had a feeling that Llama Kron was on the way, because the person I was battling had used it several times previously. In this case, he used BOTH Kron and Golem. Looks formidable, right? The combination of Death Blow and Stun did him in, giving him quite the spanking! As you can see in the battle, the combination of Stun and Deathblow was KEY in defeating this Llama/Kron. Dreaded 17 Mana? No problem!

17 mana is where Llama Kron is really fearsome. In fact, I have not yet figured out how to beat Llama Kron with such low mana. I talked to @albee (who I affectionately call Albeast!) and he gave me a lineup that I think would work well against Llama Kron at 17 mana! I have not yet tested this myself, but Albee is one of the best players in the game, so I'm sure this strategy is solid. Any 2 or 3 mana summoner should work for this. My strategy would be to use Mylor. Use a Unicorn Mustang as your tank, Khmer Princess (leveled up) for healing, and Spirit Shaman for Stun. I imagine that this would work very well, as long as RNG is on your side! If you have Xander Foxwood, who only takes 3 mana, you'll have one extra mana to put in either Brownie or Epona! Brownie will give you a speed boost, and Epona will give you a health boost. I am going to try this strategy out, and I will update with a link to the battle if it works out!

Spirit_Shaman.png

Albee also suggests using Kitty as a summoner, with Black Dragon and Chicken! This will defeat Llama Flesh Golem, even in Bronze! This strategy looks super juicy, so I am going to try this one for sure. As we all know, Kitty is the greatest summoner! :)

Be Very, Very Sneaky!

untitled.gif

One strategy that I know a lot of people use, is to pack your lineup with Sneak attack monsters. Theoretically, this will take out Kron before he can get to Last Stand. This isn't my personal choice, because it can often fail. The opposing team may also have a Flesh Golem in the lineup if they have enough mana, or they may simply put Kron in the middle instead of at the end of their lineup, which would make this plan backfire spectacularly. It can be a good choice if you don't have another option, so don't fully dismiss it! I imagine Sand Worm would be useful in this strategy. I do not have a battle example with this strategy, because I don't use it myself, but I have heard people say that it can be effective.

Interesting with the Gargoya devil never thought of even trying him for the high cost but will have to do this next time I get the chance, The earth one seems the best to me as it is the most affordable the one with unicorn and shaman. Shaman is one of my fav cards in earth and so happy I bought it at a good price. Awesome post Luthien keep it up 😀
