On this day in 1046, Persian scholar Naser Khosrow embarked on a seven-year journey across the Middle East. This journey was exceptionally long and significant as he achieved many feats, such as writing a hundred books, translating ancient texts, and completing a world tour.

In 1558, Spanish physician Francisco Fernandes introduced smoking tobacco into Europe. It is believed that this event marked the beginning of the modern tobacco industry, as tobacco was smoked amongst the upper classes of Spain.

In 1770, five people, including African American Crispus Attucks, were killed in the historically infamous Boston Massacre. This event, which occurred when British soldiers opened fire on a group of protesters, was a key moment in the American Revolution and helped to galvanize the colonists against British rule.

1842 marks the date of a brief but significant event in American history. On this day, over 500 Mexican troops led by Rafael Vasquez invaded and briefly occupied San Antonio, Texas. This event was an attempt to reclaim the lost territory of Texas, which had been seized from Mexico by the Republic of Texas in 1836.

Finally, in 1849, Zachary Taylor was sworn in as the 12th President of the United States. Taylor was the last president to own slaves and the only one to have served in the Mexican-American War. During his term, he oversaw the expansion of the United States from the Atlantic to the Pacific and helped to settle the boundary disputes with Mexico.
