Battle Breakdown – Death Mirror Match

I've fought a lot of battles this week in the Splinterlands and this was one of the most entertaining to me. Equalizer has always been one of my favorite Rule Sets and few monsters shines more than those with Life Leach. Life Leach monsters most often have high damage and low health. The idea here is that if the Life Leach Monster can survive a few turns it becomes a force to be reckoned with. However, the Equalizer Rule Set grants all Monsters in the game health equal to that of the largest Monster in the match.

Equalizer battles with high Mana Cap can often become slugfests with everyone just rolling out their largest monsters like some sort of awesome kaiju battle. This one is just the opposite. Most often in this case I would count on my opponent to play a high health Monster and fill my line with 5 with heavy hitting ranged monsters and a cheap tank. Most opponents dont expect this and you extra damage paired with the mana your opponent had to spend to deploy a fat tank will result in a win.

This time I tried something different pairing three of my favorite cards in the game into a killer team.

My opponent is running what looks like a fairly standard DEATH battleline of:
Zintar Mortalis / Haunted Spirit + Creeping Ooze + Furious Chicken + Fallen Specter +Undead Priest

Contessa L'ament / Lord Arianthus + Furious Chicken + Vampire

My opponent line-up is scary. Haunted Spirit is im single favorite DEATH frontline card I consider Undead Priest really underplayed for it’s power level, and Fallen Specter can be a devastating back-liner in the right fight.
Another card I’ve found people often underestimate the most is Lord Arianthus. 5 mana for 8 health with no attack is a hard sell but with Shield, Void, Magic Reflect, and Thorns it becomes a card unlike any other. I don’t often play the Lord without the backing of healers or other support cards that can grant extra health or armor, but he was the biggest cheapest Tank I could drop in front of my opponent. The chicken in the middle is a pretty self-explanatory speedbump and, in the back, we have out Vampire coming out at 8 health (7 more than normal) and flying. Brutal.

Let’s watch how it plays out!

As you can see Lord Arianthus holds the line and after Haunted Spirit goes down, the battle is effectively won. By the time the rest of my opponents’ monsters are mopped up our Vampire friend is up to 19 Health. Those Furious Chickens are good eating!

Thanks for taking a closer look at one of my favorite battles from my recent days in the Splinterlands! I’m going to try and do more of these Battle Breakdowns but only as often as I’m able to capture a battle that is worth analyzing. Do you have a favorite card you’d love to see featured? Speak up!
