Our Splinterlands Journey Calbayog (Philippines)

2 months ago, in conversation with a friend and a long term player (Leveluplife), who had recently introduced me to the earning capabilities of Crypto asked me if I would like to venture further down the rabbit hole (It was a Matrix moment) and my response, why not, I had very little understanding of what was in store and how this could benefit so many people. He began to tell me about NFT's which in fairness I was not really that interested in and could not believe the prices that people were paying. He then said for me to download Splinterlands, and that's where my journey began. I was hesitant at first to start playing, my spare time had been either playing Destiny 2 or Gears of War on the Xbox One, how would this new Block Chain Game compete with that I asked myself, well it did just that. its been about 2 months now I have not touched the Xbox One.

I started to play Splinterlands, Leveluplife had delegated me some of his cards to try out the game and within a few hours from Novice I had been restricted by the limitations of Collection Power although already in Silver in terms of rating. I had noticed there were a lot of similarities to Magic the Gathering, and this experience had taken me back to my childhood, I enjoyed the fact that this game was challenging, required strategy and that you could pretty much build themed decks as well as earn in game currency. That was when I decided to invest into the game, and the first thing I did was buy some cards. I wanted originally Kron the Undying and Scarred Llama, as I had felt the power of the combo, the artwork on the cards were amazing and I had previously seen YouTube videos promoting these cards. After speaking to Leveluplife, he swayed me from doing so and told me about the release of Chaos. I had already transferred funds so I decided to handpick cards by looking through the marketplace, 7 days later most of the cards had almost doubled in price which was astonishing to me, I had never seen such an investment grow in value over such a short period of time.

I made 6 accounts that very day and also opened another 3 accounts for my manager. We are based here in Calbayog, which is within the Province of Samar, and amidst the Pandemic, has been very hard to maintain businesses and employment due to restrictions. A lot of people that I know had lost their jobs as well as businesses and thought this to be an opportunity to not only redirect their attentions, but also give an opportunity to earn. I got together with Leveluplife and brainstormed some ideas, he was on board from the get go and we commenced our Thursday night events in which I would give out Free Spell Books, accept in game currency for payment of food & beverages, and Leveluplife would delegate out cards for people to try. Its been almost 3 weeks since that day and we have been able to create a local group which grows day by day, I was also gifted a poster of Kron the Undying and Scarred Llama that is now hanging up in the bar. This is a reminder that one day I will own them through my investments in the game, Max Level of course.

I am a strong believer in sharing of blessings, I feel that this game does just that, although the perception is just a game, there is so much to it, the earning potential is just the tip of the iceberg. Just yesterday I was contacted by the developer Aggroed who had been made aware of what we were doing out here and he thanked me personally. I was in shock at first as I thought that what we had been up to was nothing to boast about however he offered his support and put me in touch with his Marketing Director so that they may further assist, I mean how cool is that? I worked for Hilton Hotels on Management Level in the United Kingdom for 17 years, and never once did the Owner or the CEO do something as meaningful to me as that. It left me super pumped hence why I am blogging now, I think people should know the personalities of who made this game, its a community thing and to be honest, I feel at home here, and will do my part to expand on this.

I thought I would share my journey and I hope that it may be of help to someone in the future, I am inspired to post here as often as possible and will keep you all updated on our efforts here in Calbayog PH. Thank you to the Splinterland Community and of course to Leveluplife for introducing me to such a fine group of people.

Great post! Where'd you get those posters from? That's pretty cool. Haven't touched Destiny 2, that game is awesome, but it does get monotonous after a while. I played it quite a bit myself. Usually Warlock PVP. Anyways, nice to see things are popping off over there. It will be nice to see what happens within a few more months from now. Maybe I should move to where DEC is accepted as payment :) ML friend <3 Oh, P.S. be sure to send that GF Harklaw to me soon, I need it for battles!

Splinterlands is certainly stirring things up. I hope more players will get into the social side of Hive as they can earn from that too as well as it being fun.

I see you say you are British born. Would you like to be included as an expat on the Brit List?

I am a Dual National, I am lucky enough to still be able to keep my British Citizenship as I was born there, Thanks for reading my first blog, Aggroed left me super pumped. I already invested in more SPS, cards and Liquidity pools since then. Its a crazy process but this has potential, I can imagine doing this kind of work for the long haul.
